I agree with that. I would say it's less about getting players who are physically fast, although that would be helpful. Too me it's about processing faster and playing faster. The downfall of this team has been that they like to slow the play down on offense, and that's very counterproductive in these type of games.
We really need both.
I'm ok with a guy like Panarin slowing the game down in a vacuum, but that's useless unless he has options driving fast to the net.
That's not to absolve him of blame and there's other things he could do besides that, but that's just the reality.
Point is, put Panarin aside for a second. Too many other guys on this team slow the game down and they're not Panarin. Kakko comes to mind. He could be super effective, especially in this environment, if he just got the puck, cut to the slot, and either let it rip or passed it, like, yesterday. Instead, he curls around again trying to be Panarin and loses it. He's not fast, but he's a tank, and he could play fast.
Trocheck is another one in this series. Good play on the goal last night, but way too much carrying the puck in this series for a guy who was straight ahead all year. I think when he's with Panarin he gets into that slow mindset which is why I prefer Kreider-Trocheck-Kane.
Tarasenko doesn't have the ability he did when he was younger but he gets to concept of shitting and getting off the pot.
I think we need to add better puck movers on D and more guys fleet of foot in general, but I agree that some of the horses we already have could be taught to play faster. And Panarin just has to do something else when it's not there. You're good enough.
