I'm down on the team and disappointed with their no-show last night, but its 2-2. It's nowhere we havent been as fans. Regroup and win at MSG West. Would not shock me in the slightest to see us win this series still but they need to up the intensity several notches.
This was the only bad game we played in the series so far and we all overreact to single results. I try not to.

It's just that, man, this team not being able to do things everyone else does is exhausting sometimes.

The Devils score last night on a breakaway and a defenseman joining the rush and I'm just like "you guys skate???"

Improving our speed has to be a priority regardless of where we finish this year.

The overreactions here, even though expected, are a just that - overreactions.

There are two positives I will take from this.

First, the devils played a tighter defensive game in Game 3 and 4. They outwilled and outmanned us. But they didn’t play their game. That style of game favors us over 7. If it’s going to be a slog fest then you have to win puck battles. They have not challenged this goalie more than once or twice.

Second, the Rangers Game 4 loss was a product of lack of effort. I’m not going to say they didn’t try - that’s stupid - but the effort was not good enough, and the other side had more. You just cannot win in the playoffs if you don’t leave it all on the ice and play a disciplined, deliberate game. Too many pucks flung without a purpose, too many 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 down low where the devils retrieve the puck, too many clean zone exits. It’s not “oh the devils are too fast so the Rangers are f***ed” - it’s instead the reality that they played with desire and the Rangers didn’t.

I fully expect that will change in Game 5. This is a team that overcame 3-1 and 2-0 series deficits last year. They also blew a 2-0 lead. Most of that team is still here. They can draw on that experience to find that extra gear.

I hope they do, because flaming out after a 2-0 series lead is going to lead to a lot of changes in personnel.

Maybe we do need a bit more of the dmen to join the rush or to carry it in deep like Miller did on the tying goal. But it's risky to get into a track meet with them, and when we were a fast team for several years, we were neutralized all the same. Our dmen aren't great puck handlers and tend to lose the puck or shoot wide while they're deep that lets the other team spring the other way. In general, we've neutralized their game too. I'm sure they didn't want to play this tight style for the last two games, but they know that they need to. Hughes was cherrypicking and Siegenthaler got a bit lucky with a hail mary clear. Looking at the replay, I do think that he saw Hughes cherrypicking, so clutch play by him, and you gotta tip your hat to him. He was 1-1-2 with the GWG. At Ruff's presser, he said things similar to Gallant about our team, that the Devils like to "entertain" a little more at home and play a little more "conservative" on the road.

The first few minutes of the game on Thursday are going to be hugely telling. We're going to have to weather the storm.

Who’s slow on this blue line though? Adam Fox? Ok he’s our best player so let’s give him a pass. So it’s trouba? No one else is slow even mikkola can skate. Can you move trouba out? Maybe. Then what? You’ve got literally nothing at right D in the system.

Our dmen just don’t push up ice. At least right now they’re not. They stink offensively outside of fox and miller. Lindgren doesn’t have an ounce of offense in his whole body.

Now up front what can you change. Who’s slow? Well the two kids stink so you could move them. Goodrow is a goner. Tarasenko is a goner. I think Kane is absolutely staying.

Panarin doesn’t show up in the playoffs but is a generational star forward. Do we trade him? Can we trade him? I don’t know.

Othmann can’t skate either which is typical of our top picks. Cuylle is no burner either.

Just as I said a franchise allergic to winning. It’s never our window. Always a bridesmaid even at our best there are Always 2 or 3 teams much better than we are. Now it’s the devils. We’ll just be finishing up the Crosby era and this Hughes kid will torture us for the next 15 years. He’s that good. Every shift he makes something happen. We don’t have one player like that and never will

Maybe this team feeds better off a road crowd. I can guarantee you the Roc will be louder whether it’s from Devils fans or Rangers fans on Thursday night.

MSG was a huge disappointment and let down for these past two home games. Unfortunately, I would put a ton of it on the hardcore fans being priced out. Being at the game Saturday, it seemed the only loud ones were in the upper 200s past rows like 15. Even lower row 200s were $210 face value, I think. With the 100s, forget about it. The Garden is too concerned handing those tickets to celebrities to blast them on the big screen.

EVery time they show the crowd it's mostly guys who are coming straight from their gig at Goldman Sachs...

If we win Thursday, I'm going to game 6. This is my mission from God.

And a lot of date nights trying to impress. Hey, Rangers playoffs make a great first date.

I don't think it's the crowd, it's the ice.

This team is built on skill, so bouncing pucks hurt them more so than teams willing to muck it up. Gallant refusing to adapt to that while Ruff has is disappointing, to say the least.

But don't be surprised if this team looks a lot cleaner and less sloppy on a different surface. Problem is, the Devils speed also differentiates more so on that surface too.

Panarin slung more wild passes last night than a short-order cook does eggs. He's allergic to carrying the puck up ice himself and into traffic unless the other team is standing still during the power play zone entries after Fox pushes the other team to their line and then passes it backwards to him.

Who spends over a thousand dollars on a first date?

The hipsters who live on the top floors of Williamsburg condos. Ok, third or fourth dates looking for happy endings.

The Devils speed isnt hurting us on offense. They are getting nothing 5v5, and Hughes has only scored when no one is near him on breakaways and on the PP. Stubborn insistence on overpassing and not playing below the net and in Schmid's crease is why we are losing. Thats the adjustment they need to make, because the Devils are content to make it a slog, and we are unfortunately once again playing to the nature that's been instilled in the team for years.

Yikes....at least games in Jersey don't feel like away games. Can't throw in the towel at 2-2. But you can if the offensive effort remains like this.
There in lies the problem. This team is kind of schizophrenic. Play 2 completely different styles, home & away.
Destroying them in their building playing one way.
Come home, beating our chests. "Let's put on a show". Not.

Let's ponder this. When was the Garden ROCKING? I didn't hear it much.
Granted, they didn't give the fans much......but what came first, the chicken or the egg? Keep allowing phony Rangers fans in the garden, that are too busy on their phones and sitting on their hands. No disrespect intended.

Wanna find WHERE the quality Rangers fans were? The Prudential. Fans that bothered to go out of their way to support their team. You know, similar to the blue seat fans, where I once was a patron.

Oh and btw, Nice to see Michael J. Fox and who was the other, I forget.....there supporting THEIR team, where they can be anywhere in the world. Where was Susan Sarandon?

I think thats Bull. The MSG crowd was electric the entirety of last years run, because the Rangers actually played well at home. Can't blame the fanbase when the coach himself is calling out the team for not showing up.

Please, everyone, go to your local Panera and order a lentil soup at least once before gametime Thursday.

Speaking of fans......I am not jumping ship. We will rebound after getting ripped into shreds by GG. Expect line changes, they are STALE.

Anyone notice in the 2nd that GG played the kids "right after" the 4th line went off? I did. It was more obvious opening the 3rd for everybody to see.

I am gonna make a list of everyone jumping ship, and predicting we lose the next 2, or eventually this series. Shame on "those fans". Being a committed fan requires patience, and the continued hope and support of your team. Sorry, if I hurt any feelings. I am disappointed as well, but am finishing with...... LGR's, always.

I'm not as doom and gloom as most seem to be. The Rangers were flat last night, no doubt about that. Show me a team that didn't have bad games in a playoff run. I think we're all a little extra jaded about it because we lost game 3 in a coinflip that would have almost certainly decided the series.

At the end of the day, 2-2 isn't bad. They controlled game one, controlled game two, game three was a 50/50 and game four they were outplayed. They can win a best of 3 against this NJ team.

My concern goes beyond this series though. This team has cup aspirations. Not many teams get there after going 7 in the first round. A tired team likely means they won't be able to close out Carolina quickly. And going long against Carolina doesn't bode well for a series with Boston. That's what hurts the most about this blown 2-0 lead for me. It may sound silly, but they really do need this series wrapped up by game 6 unless the Islanders throw us a bone in game 5.
