we have no answer to the NZ clog right now, just nothing. We dealt with this against Carolina last year and yet somehow managed. I really hate to say it, but if we had a Zegras or Stutzle right now, we'd have that ability to drive things forward and that energy would trickle down to others. We need to find a way or it's f***ing over.

Game 5 is must win in every sense of the word and I expect us to go balls to the wall after experiencing a disaster like this. Gallant is fuming behind the scenes, I hope.
We don't have phone booth players.

I’m tired of going after big free agents signing them to crazy contracts, and they disappear on the biggest stage. Rather go through a longer rebuild and draft and develop our players, then add the missing pieces we need to contend.

Is there any evidence that free agents are more prone to disappearing than draft picks?

Honestly Devils didn't do shit either. A goal that Igor stops 99 out of 100 was the difference.
This. Let's be real, that was a f***ing piss poor showing of the devils "insane offense" compared to what I've been told all season about the all mighty devils...

Don't be fooled, the devils didn't own us... The rangers played down to their competition

It's ridiculous to try to deflect attention away from how bad certain established team stars and leaders have been by trying to point the finger at the kids that are completely blocked by the very existence of those stars and team leaders. That might be the most amateur thing ever. It's like criticizing fourth liners for why a power play is not doing well. The kids have been insulated on purpose to keep the vets and stars and positions to have prime time, and when the vets and stars don't do anything with prime time you can't turn around and blame the people blocked by them. Sure the kids could be better, but it's like being in a car accident and noticing that you have a flat tire when the entire front end of the car is missing...

Sorry, but no matter where the kids are they should be scoring. They're facing 3rd liners for goodness sake. Now isn't the time for excuses when the entire team needs to be playing, including the kids. Top 6 needs to function yes, but it would be nice for the top of the bottom 6 to show up too. Last time I checked, this was a run for the cup and you need depth to get there, not just a good PP. We're wasting away Shesty's good years because we're such an inconsistent f***ing team.

Who's deflecting attention?

I criticized two players and somebody responded wanting to criticize a different player.

Why do we have to choose one?
I too would blame halak for the loss tonight, if he had been better in warmups maybe those rick nash-esque lollipop shots from the boards would have gone in all night. Perhaps if harpur had made a better breakout pass to zib he would have scored tonight, or was it hajak's fault? Dammit panarin is has been irrelevant again, so we better buyout goodrow. The bottom line is the top players need to be top players and that is where the finger needs to point.

Stuztle would be Erik Christensen here at best, Angelo Esposito at worst
I'd like to think Hughes would be Erik Christensen part two here as well. It's just how we develop offensive talent here. In other words, we don't. I don't recall that last legit offensive talent we developed that turned into a PPG player.

The argument that Laf and Kakko are disappinting is fine. The line that Laf and Kakko aren't competent middle 6 players isn't.

We aren't tied in this series because of a talent gap. NYR have the better roster on paper. It's execution and tactics.
I would very much argue against the notion that our roster is better in 2023, as I've said all along, but that's beside the point.

Kakko is definitely a competent middle six player. He's a solid one. He just doesn't do anything this team needs, is slow, and is an obvious candidate for an upgrade rather than pure conjecture that Panarin waives his NMC for some reason.

Call it an analytics take, but I don't think Laf is. He has the production, but the underlying numbers point to a guy playing way more minutes than he should be because of pedigree, and as a result, is putting up somewhat respectable counting numbers.

I don't think he's dissimilar to Vesey before Vesey metamorphized into a true 4th liner. Playing on the 2nd and 3rd lines, mostly sucking at it, and accumulating 16, 17 goals. Maybe becoming more of a role player a la Vesey is a niche for him, but I think this is his best offensively.

By the way the devils goalie was as shaky as can be tonight. We didn’t test him AT All. I mean at all. 23 meaningless shots. If we had 2 or 3 high danger I’d be surprised. He was leaving rebounds everywhere. Pucks getting thru him and we just did not push at all. No push. Just a pathetic performance

So you're telling me what topics I'm allowed to discuss in the PGT?

I thought that was my job.

Own or not. They won 2 in a row and turned the series around. No one cares how close or far the games were after the fact. Only who moves on.

Are we seriously blaming laf and Kakko when through 4 games zib and panarin have a total of 4 points COMBINED!

Neither laf or Kakko have played well but we are kidding ourself when over 20 million in cap space looks like dog shit on the ice
I'm blaming all of them. There is a ton of blame to go around. Kreider and Kane have produced. The rest of our forwards haven't.

Easy to say after a disappointing loss but then you wouldn't have a 110 point season and a trip to the ECF last year and another very good season this year. Jersey was a train wreck for a decade. Buffalo has missed the playoffs for 12 years and counting. Would you be ok with that? I wouldn't.

And this is why I advocated since last year for them to be in a bigger special teams role so they don't get iced. Kakko is one of our best players last game and be plays 11 mins? Tonight 12 mins? The kids have not been good but they are bottom rung issues compared to the rest.

Yeah, but is Stuztle any good here?

I'm seriously concerned about this environment after all three of Laf, Kakko, and Kravtsov bombed.
Now we're getting into the deep stuff that really should be aired out more in the roster building thread, but here it goes anyway.

This exact point is why this won't stop happening until this team get the Glen Sather and James Dolan stink off of them. This is the worst organization in the league when it comes to nurturing and developing forward talent. I'd almost rather let Brennan Othmann play an overage year in the OHL than be wading in the shitty waters of Hartford. That's where the career's of any prospect with any kind of offensive upside go to die. It's uncanny. What's wrong down there?

Even the big club development is a disaster. You can argue (and we agree here) that Lafreniere was never going to be a player in this league. Doesn't have a single plus attribute that would make him a gamebreaker in any sense of the word. He just bullied smaller and younger kids in the Q and made them look bad with his size.

But Kakko man, WTF happened? This is the one that bothers me. The kid was making established NHL'ers look silly at the World Championships the month before the draft. Bodying them and making them look weak. And he comes here and plays timid . Again, what's wrong here?

Kravtsov and Andersson were self indulgent picks from the get go with smarmy, smartest man in the room, galaxy brain syndrome logic like the McIlrath and Jessiman picks that came before them. I knew from the get go they'd regret not trying hard enough to trade up to #3 or #4 to get Pettersson and not going for Farabee.

The development of any prospect with any kind of offensive upside is something that this organization has failed with systematically since their inception. It's astounding. It's their MO to draft their goalies and defensemen well and to sign their offensive talent in free agency. Chris Kreider is going to get his jersey retired almost by default because this organization's track record is so f**king sad with regards to developing offensive talent.

To sum it up, I have no faith in this organization's ability to develop gamebreaking forward talent even if Dolan gives the ok to tear things down again. But what are they to do if they get bounced in round 1 in a year when the GM gave them the vote of confidence by going all in at the deadline and outright pandering to their overpaid forward by bringing his who whined his way here.

Who knows, maybe the Knicks make a run and he focuses on them and leaves Drury and Sather to their devices again. I'm sure he'd be happy to be rid of Panarin's wages, at least.

And maybe I'm a little emotional, but you know what? I spend my hard earned money to go sit at the Garden, and my harder earned sanity to sit here and watch this with you beautiful people, and every time I see 13 and 24 come over the boards, I roll my eyes and get a little bit nauseous because I know we're not scoring for the next minute and half.

I'm tired of it.

That's another sop I'm tired of seeing. The Kid Line is GALLANT's idea. For two years I've been saying the kids need to be INTEGRATED into the team. Now they are easy prey and Gallant can throw them to the wolves as an excuse when his game plan fails. Kakko has done nothing to deserve to be stapled to the third line. As you yourself has said repeatedly the Kreider Zib Kakko line was good. Laffy basically just exists at this point. This is awful coaching and management.

This is AGAIN the NYR tripping over it's own feet trying to be a cup contender and not having the mental acuity, or patience, to actually build one.

Laf deserves plenty of blame for the game he played tonight. He’s been miserable in this series. As has Panarin and Mika and Trocheck frankly. He had Schmid deep in the net and ducking and he fired a puck 20 feet wide. It’s a goal if he hit the net to take the lead.

Hard to blame Tarasenko who’s got 2 goals Kane has 6 points in 4 games. He showed up. Kreider has 5 goals. But Mika Panarin laf Trocheck the 4 of them really have been just terrible

Chickens are coming home to roost.

Gallant is making the same mistake he made last playoffs with Panarin's deployment. On a good Panarin day he probably shouldn't be leading the forwards in even strength ice time. The current version of Panarin should never be leading the forwards in even strength ice time in a playoff game. I made this same exact post last playoffs in the Tampa series. Gallant is not protecting Panarin from his weaknesses; he's actively enhancing them.

Lafreniere and Kakko don't know what to do because they've never been trusted to do anything before. Hughes played 23 minutes tonight. I think it's entirely possible Kakko and Lafreniere go the entire rest of their careers without ever playing 23 minutes in a game.

Kane and Tarasenko solved none of the team's issues. In fact, their presence just ensured this would be another playoffs where our first and second overall draft picks would be relegated to supporting roles. That's all well and good if it works but if it doesn't work this will have been a very critical learning opportunity wasted. And you all know Drury will just bring in new versions of Kane and Tarasenko at next year's trade deadline again just to keep the cycle going.
