Post-Game Talk: Devil III

Ben Bishop owes the Rangers royalties for the fat retirement contract he got. The Rangers tend to make goalies like Schmid and Bishop look good. Make these guys move laterally and they're toast. But the Devils adjusted and took away a lot of the east-west options and dared the Rangers to beat them on the cycle, and it was really, really effective because the Rangers didnt adjust. The east/west plays were still being forced but not too many chances were great because the recipient was at a bad angle or covered.

Cycle and get bodies in front of the net and make this guy's life miserable. Go high off the rush if you get those chances like Krieder did. I expect the kid line and the 4th line to have a big night Monday.

Exactly. Shoot high, screen the goalie, traffic in front, make him move/go 5-hole, and otherwise play on his knees and negate his size.

Then the Devils open it up to try and come back and the Rangers' top 2 lines bury them when they do.

For all the Kreider deflection goals, the PP got away from that tonight.

I don’t think it’s fair to say ‘the rangers played poorly’. Gotta credit NJ with stepping up their defense and getting over a hump. Now it’s on to the next game and the rangers have work to do.
They never gave us credit. f*** them.

Exactly. I guess fans thought the devils were just going to lie down and die lol. Rangers are still winning this series

It's not so much that they'd lie down and die. It's that we had an opportunity to end this series tonight and we didn't. And we didn't while we outplayed the Devils and had the lead. Last year we let a series slip away from us also. We should have won game 3 and didn't. But at least in that game 3 the Lightning were the better team. We still should have won being up 2-0, but this game we outplayed them AGAIN and lost. I'm so tired of this team always letting the other team in the series. It shocking to me that we even won game 2.

Curious as to the "Deserve to Win a Meter" tonight.
We won.

Not as much as we did in game 2.

To that point, 5-1 didn't really do game 1 justice.

Two of the three games have been pretty competitive, and I expected it to be competitive.

We win in 6.

Yeah but like, we just absolutely clowned them in back to back games and they won tonight anyway.

Where was this "momentum?"
Good point lost on so many here. It's actually hard to win 2 games in a row in the playoffs especially on the road. The Rangers need to make some adjustments and they still were very close to making it 3-0.

And they still won.

It goes to show what momentum gets you.

This sport is too random for momentum.
In the playoffs every game and every day is new. I've seen the Rangers get blown out and come back with a convincing full 60 minute effort two nights later. Momentum is the biggest fallacy in this sport.

Schmid and the lack of in game adjustment from the Rangers are the biggest concerns coming out of tonight for me. I hope they get away from trying to force the cross ice stuff that isn't there anymore. Literally just play like they did Tuesday and Thursday and they'll win.

I thought we got better in this game as it went along.

We'll finish better and we'll be fine.

Calm down

I'll take you guys back to 2009 where we beat the Caps twice on the road, lost game 3, won a tight game 4, everything back on track, series over, and then we blew the 3-1 lead anyway.

No game matters but the next one.

We've won 2 out of the 4 we need and we're playing well.

I know the Devils are the faster team so the appalling ice should be an advantage to us but we've done well neutralizing them defensively and all the ice does is f*** up our skill guys. It's a home ice disadvantage. As much as I was pissed at Panarin for missing the net on that last PP, the was moving 86 different directions.

They were overthinking most of the night and were gripping the sticks really tight in front of the home crowd.

1. Cycle and get the puck to the net.

2. Get bodies in front of the rookie goalie

3. Continue to clog the neutral zone and get pucks deep off of takeaways.

4. Profit.

That Rangers team's best skater was Nikolai Zherdev.

Pls don’t remind me

Still can’t believe the Devils ended up with the PP after Meier intentionally fell in Igor. Only calling Igor there is a ridiculous call, how do you not take both. And the Devils scored on that pp.

Plus that PK was shit too, why did they give Hughes that time and space to walk in?

Oh yeah not to f***ing mention they scored their only regulation goal on a powerplay they shouldn't have had. Worth mentioning.

I do understand people being upset with the loss because it could have easily been a win and a 3-0 lead against the Debbies but unfortunately hockey sucks sometimes. What I hate is the "series is over bullshit" after a tough OT loss when the team is still up 2-1. Tampa significantly outplayed Tampa tonight and lost in OT. All the series are now 2-1 and none of them are over. On to game 4.
