Pretty much everyone agrees they had no legs in the Tampa series last year. While Tampa swept Florida and had a lot more gas in the tank.As much as I'd love to see this, in fairness, it can be somewhat overrated. Thankfully we're not playing dumb ass back to backs in the playoffs anymore.
Here's the last 10 Cup champs and the # of games they've needed to win by round and total:
2022 Colorado: 4-6-4-6 (20)
2021 Tampa: 6-5-7-5 (23)
2020 Tampa: 5-5-6-6 (22)
2019 St. Louis: 6-7-6-7 (26)
2018 Washington: 6-6-7-5 (24)
2017 Pittsburgh: 5-7-7-6 (25)
2016 Pittsburgh: 5-6-7-6 (24)
2015 Chicago: 6-4-7-6 (23)
2014 LA: 7-7-7-5 (26)
2013 Chicago: 5-7-5-6 (23)
I'd like to see them win at least some series in fewer games though, because other than LA nobody has won a Cup going 7 games consistently, and recovery is important. It's telling that only 2 of the past 10 Cup winners have won in spie of back to back 7 game series.
IMO the biggest impact of a long series is the impact if it forces players to be banged up and play through nagging injuries, but that's more a function of things out of anyone's control like whether a blocked shot hits a shin pad or an ankle, or if players start getting hurt.
