Post-Game Talk: Devil III

In the playoffs every game and every day is new. I've seen the Rangers get blown out and come back with a convincing full 60 minute effort two nights later. Momentum is the biggest fallacy in this sport.

Schmid and the lack of in game adjustment from the Rangers are the biggest concerns coming out of tonight for me. I hope they get away from trying to force the cross ice stuff that isn't there anymore. Literally just play like they did Tuesday and Thursday and they'll win.
They have to hit the net. Seemed like they we’re trying to be too fine with their shot, Panarin in particular was missing high all night, most likely because Schmid is so huge.

My only concern at this point is that goaltending is voodoo and Schmid is now a storyline. If I find out that this f***er eats spicy pork I’m gonna lose my shit.
Schmid was good and if Vanacek was in we would be up 3-0. I'm not sure Schmid can stymie this offense another 3 times though.

series is over bullshit
Don't see too many series is "over" remarks (incoming game 4 loss notwithstanding), but the adage of the series doesn't start until you lose at home just smacked them in the face.
Everything that happened the past 3 games is meaningless going forward.
They now have to figure out a way to play better.

This is very true. Way too many shots missed the net. This has to change on Monday.

I didn't see him do anything crazy after that first PP. We did next to nothing on offense. The Devils did even less.
He made some saves that the other guy probably doesn't make IMO. It only takes 1 less save and we would have won.

Should have had that one. Had the pp opportunities. Sometimes it just doesn't go. Adjust and come out better next game.

I've seen a few of those comments. They are up 2-1 so what happened in the first 3 games does matter and they are winning game 4.

100% agreed.

Although on the miss short side late in the 3rd, I blame that on the MSG ice. Puck was rolling and he hooked it. Extremely difficult to shoot a puck like that, even for an elite player. It was a perfect pass and on 90% of NHL ice surface, the puck stops tilting on end and is flat when he goes to shoot it.

Biggest issue I had was the PP. Simple plays were how they scored in Games 1 and 2. Today they went back to forced perimeter plays and nothing was there. With the talent the Rangers have, simple plays should work. Deke a D, force him to open up, and shoot high through his legs with a screen in front of the goalie. Throw the puck towards the net low and go for deflections/rebounds. Basically do anything besides cycle around the perimeter and not shoot.

I have to apologize to a friend who made the mistake of texting me right after tonight's game to say, "that was a close one tonight!"

He doesn't even like the Devils, and I still said, "why would you text me after a playoff loss unless someone died, you dumb f***?"
I hear you. My mom has a really bad habit of calling me after Ranger losses.

Game 3 had to be the Devils best effort and they squeaked one away in OT. With the way both Hughes and Dougie celebrated their goals it restored their cockiness which might be a good thing for us since the Debbie's tightened up this game to protect the goalie

I would love to hear from someone who was at the game. On tv it didn’t sound like a Ranger’s playoff game. Could be the ABC feed?
Just got home....it was dead..everyone was waiting but it never came...The Rangers looked way slower than games 1 and 2. They let the goalie off the hook by not getting more shots on net. Lots of misses. Devils played it save by not fore checking too aggressively. Rangers looked faster in OT. Sloppy passes and stickhandling..was it the ice? or the late start? or was it a trap game? They were a different team.

Letting teams off the hook is part of the franchise's DNA.

It should have been when you take the first two games on the road and have a very winnable game 3 on home ice. But this is the Rangers so they f***ed it up.

Exactly. Odds were not in favor of it being an easy series before game 1, after games 1 and 2 and the way both teams played game 3 it should have f***ing been an easy series. Now it's a toss up.

Maybe but even after the first 2 games you would have to expect a good Devils team to play hard. They are actually better on the road. The Rangers didn't shit the bed. They just didn't win. Disappointing for sure.

I honestly think the ice was the main culprit. So many chances that died for both teams because of it. But the way we've played defense for three games tells me that if we played in NJ today we'd have won.

It was awful. Not only did the Knicks play yesterday but they also had something going on today as well.

I was at the game. I know ABC/ESPN at times will tone down the crowd noise on TV, but aside from pregame (which was electric) and right after Kreider scored, it was rather flat. I was pretty disappointed. The third period in particularly was dead as well as OT.

Yeah noticed that as well. Carolina is a constant madhouse, as a counter example.

Ranger fans can be too cool for school sometimes. Wave towels? - what? Make some noise? - what?

A big % are there just go see themselves on the scoreboard screen and/or karaoke (I’ve given feedback to MSG half-dozen times to pull the plug on that).

And OT for those that go there just to drink has to be a big d**k tug.
