people are making camenasari style sound like hemsky. which is fine by me.

i'm surprised that toninato wasn't faster as i had read that he was one of the fastest skaters in his draft.

i am curious if reilly is faster than camenasari or percy.

if we have leivo, bobo, mcgregg brown, carter on the leafs, we have some good offense right there.

Nice to see leivo and rielly impressing. They're gonna challenge for spots on the big club, methinks.

Also nice to see under the radar guys granberg and broll do well - these guys might be much closer to being legit prospects than many realize.

What I find amusing is that over the past couple of years, pretty much everything I have read has said that at this point in their development, David Broll is the better player over Tyler Biggs.

Same height, similar weight, same age, same draft year. The offensive production between the two isn't even that far off, and Broll has never been used as an offensive weapon.

I honestly do hope Biggs pans out, but I can't believe the fan following he has here. There has been virtually nothing to be excited about, and if you listen to Biggs interviews -- even he doesn't seem to envision himself as an offensive contributor.

I like him, I hope for the best, etc...but I don't even see him in our top 10 prospects at this point.

This is how I see it:

Morgan Reilly
Matt Finn
Joe Colborne
Fredrik Gauthier
Stuart Percy
Petter Granberg
Josh Leivo
Jerry D'Amigo
Carter Ashton
Greg McKegg

At this point in time, if Biggs wasn't a first round pick it wouldn't surprise me if our management assigned him to the ECHL, as that is probably where he's more suited to at this point in time.

Considering there are a lot of stat watchers on here, who use stats as their main tool, I'm surprised about all of the hype around Biggs, because his stats are not great. On a similar note, so many people are giving up on Carter Ashton, for instance, when if you read actual reports...while the points weren't there, he apparently looked great last year in the AHL. Same with D'Amigo, obviously. And Dallas Eakins teams were never known for high offensive totals from any of the star players.

I might even put guys like brown and rupert ahead of biggs at this point.

Who is this Herzog guy? I like him.

Rielly was outstanding, as was Leivo.

Granberg was decent as well.

Broll really knows how to use his size and strength, surprisingly looked like one of the more effective players.

Camarenisi looked dangerous as well.

Finn and Percy looked alrite, but failed to stand out. They need to show they are head and shoulders above defensemen like Nilsson and others.

Biggs looked alrite, he was a rock defensively, but in the offensive zone he lacked playmaking ability. I am a big Biggs fan, but he has no excuse for letting Broll outperform him. Someone needs to light a fire under his ass

I want Rielly playing with Phaneuf. Our top pairing would have a very fluid transition game. :amazed:

JVR-------------------Kessel

-----------Bozak

------Rielly

-------------------Phaneuf

That would be a very effective 2-1-2 forecheck. One huge issue that consistently popped up was poor transition and poor puck support from our forwards. Since we usually score on the rush, we have forwards rushing into the offensive zone and leaving our defenceman behind. To make things worse, our top pair cannot productively take the puck out of our zone.

Rielly is a really good puck rusher who has the mobility to keep up with our forwards. More so, he has that Karlsson-esque pace-controlling ability. If we're going to attack on the rush, we need a consistent transition game. Gunnarsson makes a decent first pass as a defensive defenceman, but just isn't good enough for a high tempo game that requires a puck rusher. If the play is unsuccessful, Rielly has the mobility ( along with the forwards) to backcheck effectively into their zone. If successful, Rielly could utilize Phaneuf's productive shot in addition to the forwards.

:D

I have seen burnside a ton with the steelheads. Kid has great wheels(little awkward skating style, but effective). Kid is always the hardest worker on the ice and fun to watch.

He just seems to make things happen, whether a turnover, check, draw a penalty or offensive chance. Really hope they give me a good hard look during this camp.
I got probably 8 looks at him this year, 3 live and I noticed he did a lot of the things you said. Plus he got a ton of ice this year and wouldn't be shocked with an offensive outburst this year

It's actually nice listening to people complain about how many guys we have who are stellar defensively but not filling the net with pucks.

For years we have suffered from not having a full complement of 2 way guys. Looks like that is changing.

My first shot at a ranking for this year.

That's actually pretty close to where I would put it as well. I honestly feel that management would see it closer to that, that's why the prospects poll results have really boggled my mind. I know it's just opinion, but it just really makes me wonder if some posters have a clue or whether they lack the will to look objectively, and simply pick favourites.

I used to be the absolute biggest Blacker fan, but I might even slide him down a bit lower at this point. His offensive game hasn't transitioned too well to the pro level, and apparently his defense is still an absolute mess.

I also think maybe Kenny Ryan should be on there somewhere. His ceiling might not be too high but I really see him as a current Daniel Paille or something. I've also been one of Ross' biggest criticizers, thinking his offensive game would never transition to the NHL...but he apparently showed a bit more at the end of the year last year so I'm interested to see how he performs this year.

Not making your list is Sam Carrick and Andrew Crescenzi. Rightfully so I guess. They're two players whose ceiling is very low, but who I actually think could reach it.

Also I love how high you have Leivo. Every interview with Leafs prospect development staff basically says he is the Leafs top forward prospect at this point. Dead serious.

On a final note, I think one of the biggest and most overrated prospect at this point, besides Biggs, is Andrew MacWilliam. I've always loved the guy for the same reason most people do -- his style of game. His style of game transfers so well to the NHL. But you know what doesn't? His skating. He'll be 24 at some point next year - his skating is no where ready. It most likely never will.

Does anyone remember the hype around Tyler Ruegesegger? Remember his success at the College level and how well his awful skating transferred to the pros? MacWilliam is essentially the defense version. He's a bigger long shot than most people think. From what I read from people who watched the two games, he looked brutal with the Marlies.

I though he looked very good for the Marlies in his two games. I though he should have been dressed in the playoffs over Komi.

He will be a regular for the Marlies this year and I suspect he will have a good rookie camp in September.

In the WC Gold Medal game, Granberg played the 2nd. most minutes. He wasn't in the top pairing to start the championships, but must have earned the promotion. He was 2nd. youngest player on the team, Landeskog was the youngest, by less than 3 months.

He did lose most of the season this year with an injury but came back and played all 13 playoffs games.

He won Gold at WJC.
He won Gold at WC.
He won SEL Championship this year.

So now he needs an Olypmic Gold and ...

I also thought MacWilliam looked good. Not great or anything but he was quite all right.

Komisarek looked much worst, but obviously the sample size was a little bigger for him.

Too bad we don't have anyone reporting in on the scrimmage today. I really appreciated that yesterday.

I didn't like the pick as soon as it happened. Not because he was another goalie but because I didn't think he was very good. He then didn't progress at all. I don't really see a future in NA hockey for him although I wish him all the best.

Really and you saw him play how many times......this is a young man with fantastic reflexes and athleticism abilities......he is a gamer and will be an NHL goalie. His record in the Q is outstanding as he played on a very bad team and was the reason why they won as many games as they did.

I had the pleasure of watching him play for a year......he went undefeated in that year with a 42 save shutout in the finals of the national midget championship.....
