Thanks again for the update. I hope to see Granberg called up to the big club sometime this year if he does well with the marlies.

No worries friend, I think I'll be in attendance tomorrow as well. I'd be very happy if Granberg got a look. I feel as though he can be a player who forces his way onto the opening night roster.

I believe Rielly has all but made the team. The kid is unbelievable to watch. I know I've been gawking over him but I have never seen him live before today.

He was physical, good positionally, and when he decided he wanted the puck he got it. He and Gardiner also look near identical rushing the puck up the ice, except Morgan is a way better passer. So excited about this kid... :)

Stand out players whom rights we do not own... Goumas, Burnside and Millen (lol)

Goumas is great with the puck, he's fast and very skilled.
Burnside is good at everything and has got great wheels.
Millen was actually really good, nice positioning and very athletic, he is a little small however.

If it was up to me I'd sign Goumas, Burnside and C.Gibson. Gibson only because of his draft history.

Ask me about anyone and I'll give my opinion.

What were your impressions on some of the college Leaf prospects (Cameranesi, Toninato, Knodel)?

Hughes said Broll was dominant today.

Bob McGill calls out Biggs lack of presence too.

Like I mentioned before; it's interesting to note that him and Biggs are the same height, similar weight, same age, same draft year --- offensive production not too different, especially considering Broll has never truly been used in a purely offensive role, etc.

Very impressed with Cameranesi. The kid is super quick, with great agility. He was all over the offensive zone. He is a very interesting prospect.

Toninato was average, he didn't really make any noise with the puck. But he looked 'okay'. Definitely didn't stand out.

Knodel I thought was the worst player on the ice. Very slow and not so mobile. He looked like a big lumbering man on the ice.

Obviously you can watch the interviews on mapleleafs.com Incredibly surprised with how strong of a speaker Broll is. Always kind of pictured him sounding like a dolt, like Kassian or something...but not at all.

Cameranesi is quick and always has his head up, he wasn't a standout but you can see the skill there. Obviously for a player his size to not be noticed is a bit of a negative, I'd like to see more explosiveness from him.

Toninato looked rusty, he was good on the draws and is a decent skater, he definitely has skill and plays a two way game but again for him to have success he needs to get stronger and gain more confidence, he has a heavy shot.

I recall being at last years scrimmages and Knodel was good, what he lacked in foot speed he made up for in smarts and quick outlet passes. Last year he took tonnes of low accurate shots, very similar to Franson, to me he seems to be a bit rusty and may be holding his stick a bit tighter. He'll improve his foot speed over time but I like him.

As for the Biggs debate, I thought he was great today, smart defensively and throws his weight around, can control play along the boards has quick hands for a big guy. He needs to get rid of the puck quicker though, he seems to lack a killer instinct. I'll watch him with good positioning in the slot and he'll take his shot a second late and run into a stick. It's his timing that must be worked on.

Side note, I was disappointed in Carter Verhaeghe and Kunzle. Verhaeghe just has very poor footwork and didn't create much, he's still young however. As for Kunzle he was invisible, I noticed him once and that was him getting rubbed out.

Also Nilsson is fun to watch.

I commented earlier, Burnside looked great, did everything well and is an exceptional skater. I'd like for us to sign him.

I have seen burnside a ton with the steelheads. Kid has great wheels(little awkward skating style, but effective). Kid is always the hardest worker on the ice and fun to watch.

He just seems to make things happen, whether a turnover, check, draw a penalty or offensive chance. Really hope they give me a good hard look during this camp.

No yeah I understand that, all I'm saying is currently he isn't standing out among other prospects. Leivo plays a similar game, yet he seems to be flourishing offensively. It should be expected that by 20 years old a 1st round pick would stand out at a prospect camp.

I like Biggs, I hope he does well. It's just right now I can't project him to be anything more than a ~30 point NHL player. That being said, sometimes guys like him just snap into it at 23 years old and start producing.
If Biggs can develop a main streak and play a power game, I'd take the 30 points. That sounds like a David Clarkson that is strong on his own end.

These type of guys are a must on contenders, and help insulate the skilled guys. Seeing that they're easier to draft, it'd make a lot more sense to have them wear out than our top skilled guys who rarely ever pan out.

gardiner looked dominant in the playoffs. he was noticeably one of the best players on the ice while he was on it. I'm sorry, but despite any of schenns pro's(not many imo), he is nowhere close to being on the same level as what gardiner can offer.
They're not even utilized similarly. Gardiner was playing very sheltered minutes even during the playoffs. On the other hand, Schenn was playing a shut down role and didn't look out of place. We faced Flyers several times and that was obvious.

You're obviously going to see offensively utilized guys look good. That is especially the case when they skate as well as Gardiner. Flashy play is a very significant component of any sport, and that's why we see Jake getting a lot of praise. However, the Flyers had a GA that was similar to Nashville even though their goaltending was very inconsistent.

For that reason, I am not a fan of comparing either. I still Foote-esque potential in Schenn, while Gardiner is going to be a top offensive defensiveman. Someone like Letang who can move the puck, but will stay away from the defensive side of the game. There are other guys who can do a much better job.
