Detroit Red Wings 23/24 season thread

huge line shakeups today at practice.

veleno - larkin - raymond
dbc - compher - rasmussen
fabbri - copp - perron
kostin - fischer - sprong

Good. We need a shakeup to jar some guys loose here. I actually don't hate the first two lines. I'd much rather we scratch perron and run kostin/fischer as the floaters and keep sprong on that third line but whatever. I wanted some type of shakeup so there it is.

Overall, I don't think veleno will do well up there, but I would like to see what a compher/dbc line would look like for a few shifts of o-zone time. They can both pass the puck pretty well and compher seems to be able to think fast enough to make quick decisions.

the put raymond on pp1 and ghost up top, lark/per/dbc

I don't hate those lines. I'd rather swap Sprong and Perron and Veleno and Ras, but they definitely needed a shakeup and these aren't gross lines lol.

Until they fix the D transition though, I'm still expecting struggles. We aren't a great cycle team so need to create more in the way of transition offense.

Fischer hasn't played center much and his FO stats suck. Sprong on pace for 20+ goals this season, yet stuck on the 4th line as usual. Coaches just hate him.

Swap Ray and Cat, and I like the other lines. Fester finally split the Co/Co twins. Compher deserves a winger that can score, Copp can make up for Perron's defensive deficiency. Copp and Joey have identical stats despite Copp playing with better linemates and getting PP time, lol. At least Lalonde finally realized he's not a 2C.

Raz better wake up, or he's swapping places with Sprong again. So far the most disappointing player this season. I really thought he'd be better than last season, but he's completely regressed.

It's more frustrating with Ras because of how much of a high he was on before the injury. Mostly, you can blame the injury on subsequent seasons for why a player got worse or back to their old ways, but I can't get behind that thought process with ras right now. He is just making very dumb plays (mainly penalties). If he would have made that first goal that seems like it started all of his bad luck (the wide open net and he hit the pipe on the doorstep), then I think he would have made a charge a bit, but he just can't bury one and it's always like right there. sucks.

Year six of year the Yzerplan and not one rookie or sophomore in the lineup.

Chiarot-Petry second pair ($20m for that group of bottom five defenseman)

What exactly are we doing here folks? Not building a winning organization, that’s for sure

I’ll pass on watching, still hope they win but I got better things to do then watch this d group flip the puck to center ice all game then get burned for 5 goals against while our nice guy coach preaches defense, risk-averse hockey and reminds us to keep our expectations low

Good for Veleno top get a chance in the top 6, he's earned it. I'd like to see him on PP2, but I'm still happy he's earning more responsibility. It's also refreshing to see Raymond on PP1 where he belongs. Hopefully this time they give him more than 2 games there.

Was just suggestion Veleno get a chance on the second line, so happy to see him get a chance on the first line. He's shown he has some jump in him this year. Really looking forward to see what he can do on that line.

Ras on second line is fine. I don't get the fourth line though. We have 5 players who can play center, but not enough for the fourth line. Czarnik being called back up tomorrow?

Jesus please stop with the Chiarot Petry brigade. It's not working and never will. And why are they the 2nd pairing??

I'm not going to pretend to know the situation around this player but I've been all over his case(for a trade) since the summer. More and more it's looking like Wings need him and we have the stuff to get him and cash. I'm going to be very upset if Red Wings/Yzerman literally just stand by and watch the Bruins/Hurricanes/Capitals get this guy.(unless of course it's a gross over pay, then everyone understands)

Maybe Calgary Flames aren't even being realistic right now, but if Yzerman hasn't made a call like, sheesh Idk then.

I understand why you say this...however, the last time he juggled lines and said "you may see ras play center 10% of the game, it is just something to look at" turned into ras playing center for multiple games on the 4th line...

He also said we will be playing 11/7 tonight, so someone is going to be the odd man out and i don't know who that is.

Raz as 4C worked though. That 4th lines hasn't done shit all season except when Raz played center. Likewise, Raz hasn't done shit except when he's played center.

He'll probably be 4C again as soon as Lalonde goes back to playing 6D.
 
Something to chew on for the "Bettman hates the Wings" crowd, bad enough we had the only back to back in Sweden, but I am sure the Wings US players are kinda pissed they have to play an afternoon game on the Friday after Thanksgiving. No doubt they had to travel today to be ready for tomorrow. Not really the reward you should get for going to Sweden for playing divisional games.
