After 17 games, I went and looked back at how the Wings were doing last season.

This year, the Wings are 8-6-3 with 19 points.

Last year, The Wings were 8-5-4 with 20 points.

This year's team so far is better offensively with 3.59 GFG. Compared to 2.93 GPG last season.

This year's team is worse defensively with 3.35 GAA. Compared to last year's team being at 3.27GAA.

Curious to see if this trend continues or if we swing back up.. you would think with the contract status of some of our underperorming guys that they have alot if incentive to pick it up and turn the ship around. They pass the eye test to me, they do look better and more skilled. The question is if we can get goaltending, stop the chronic slow starts and get some guys producing again like they have in past years. Small uptick from Perron, Ras, and some goaltending and we are have a few extra points in the standings.

I don't really get the change the lines rage, we are 3rd in scoring which is just crazy. The problem is dumb penalties, defense collapses, powerplay vanished, and goaltending has been iffy. I dunno if it's a system thing or personnel thing, maybe both.

Kostin is not a 1st line winger
Raymond works well on top line why mess with that.
They can still score even if we change lines. Break the 1st line and spread more scoring to the other lines.

Wings will be easy to play against going forward if Lalonde keeps keeping the eggs in one basket, just shut down the 1st line and that will do it. Who's the only scoring threat behind them? Sprong?

Wings have depth, it's idiotic not to use it. Right now Raymond don't need Larkin or DeBrincat to score, he is doing that on his own. Right now Raymond could help Compher finding his game. Compher is going to waste next to Copp, Compher started the season without Copp and was much better than he is now.

I'd like to see this. I think Rasmussen would be a good fit on the first line, and it would be nice to jump start him a little. Veleno as the 2C. He's been really great, and has been one of the best forwards most games this season, so let's see him get rewarded.
DeBrincat - Larkin - Rasmussen
Fabbri - Veleno - Raymond
Sprong - Compher - Perron
Kostin - Copp - Fischer

I fear Raymond won't get the space he does with DCat or Larkin, I guess it would be a good test for him but have a feeling he will just get shut down. Compher doesn't need anyone to get him going, he is playing fine.

I remember when we use to complain about the Blashill blender, I dunno I don't mind the lines right now. Only thing I would be interested in is getting Berggren in, maybe with Compher and Sprong. Berggren can set him up and Sprong can hit the glass.

I don't see that, Ray is on the different level now than before. Compher can be better than this, offensively more involved.
X - Larkin - Cat
X - Comp - Ray
X - Veleno - Sprong
Kostin - Copp - Fischer

More scoring threat and 4th is the shutdown line. Those Blashill days were different, now this team is playing for the win. I don't know about Berggren, looked underwelming. He still needs more work, a summer training with Joe Swoleno is what he needs.

You know there's only 4 lb difference in their listed weights?

Burger is underwhelming because he doesn't want to play physical or fight for the puck. Same with Elmer. I don't think either will become NHL regulars.

The lines are fine if we are playing good, but we aren't. The first line other than being on to score a couple in the past 2 games has basically done nothing for about 9 games now. Blashill over did the blender thing, but Lalonde doesn't blend at all. To me, that makes me think that Lalonde is not a good in game coach, as he doesn't react on the fly.

Ottawa and Toronto take 4 points each, we get 1 point. Almost the worst possible Sweden outcome. Hey we could've lost that first game 4-0 I guess :help:

I don't think Nashville is going to trade him. Would anyone else like if the Wings took a run at acquiring Saros? They already have a young goalie prospect, so Cossa would likely not be needed as a piece back, and goalies in general don't bring back too great a return. Of course that is why I think NSH won't trade him, as you generally don't get value, but I would still like it.

8th in pt%. Wings have a game in hand over TBL.

I'm a bit surprised by the Caps and Flyers, both teams seem to be riding a hot backup goalie.

TB will get Vasi back and then move up. They were just trying to ride out his injury and Johansson has basically done exactly what they hoped he would in being just good enough.

Of course they did.

I'm getting extremely impatient; this stuff was supposed to be in the past.

It wouldn't bother me as much, if we had at least 1 or 2 youngsters in our lineup or more than 1 or 2 prospects that were having really good seasons. For the whole Wings franchise this has been a heavily disappointing start to 2023-2024.

Oh, I agree. The Wings need the Caps or Flyers to falter. Still early in the season, CBJ is the only team really out of it.

DeBrincat - Larkin - Kostin
Veleno - Compher - Raymond
Moose - Copp - Perron
Sprong - Fischer - Fabbri/ZAR/Soderblom/whatever

1. Move Kostin to the first line to help pull the piano for Cat and Larkin. Also ideally protect Larks a bit, that guy takes way too many unnecessary shots and our season is flushed if he’s out for any extended time period.

2. Veleno has been our most consistent forward that’s not 71 or 93. Reward his effort and pair that speed with Compher and Raymond.

3. Reunite a line that’s worked in the past, hopefully fire moose up to get back to where he left off before injury last season

4. Twelfth forward is a strange hole right now. We could really use a solid 4C.

Based on goal diff., I think WSH is going to fall. Usually by playoff time, the teams in the minus are out and teams with plus are in. I think only LA got in with a worse diff, then some of the non playoff teams last year. I think OTT and PITT will move up, WSH down and honestly based on our play the past 10 games, I think we will go down as well.

Larkin really needs to get going as offensively he has been very quiet the past 10 games, and obviously would be nice if one of our goalies could play good consistently. Of course our blueline is a wreck, and if Walman's out, it could get really ugly.

We are outside of top 8 in the east and our best point producer on 38th place. That's is not what I expected.

Agree on everything, lol, especially Larkin and Walman.

I thought Lyon had a very solid game, all 3 goals were due to defensive breakdowns where someone left a guy open close to the crease. Out of the 3 goalies, Husso is the worst positionally, I don't understand why Lalonde is so committed to him. Same with ice time for certain defensemen.
