Detroit Red Wings 23/24 season thread

isn't that what they did with hedman in the beginning though....
No it isn't "what they did with Hedman" RFA deals were different when Hedman signed out of his ELC compared to now. He played 20 mins a night at 19, 21 mins a night at 20, and 23 mins a night at 21.

Players didn't sign 8+ million dollar deals coming out of ELC in 2012.

So... after the recent win streak, the Wings have the second most points in the division behind Boston and have the 7th best goal differential in the league.

Not bad after the lame showings in Sweden.

Exactly, The guy played 24:33 against Boston the game prior and nearly 30 mins against Ottawa in Sweden. I can't say why he wasn't utilized more, he could have been - he could've had those 3 penalties and gotten 18-19 mins.

If you really want to look in depth nhl.com has ice time breakdowns for every shift of every game in the box score section
He’s played under 23 min more often than not, and more often than should be the case so far IMO.

Currently pacing for 99 points. Here are our point totals over the past few years:

2019: 45 (over an 82 game season)
2020: 70 (over an 82 game season)
2021: 74
2022: 80
2023: 99 (projected)

I mean, he's at least getting 14 minutes a night with the Sharks. He likely wouldn't even be on the Wings roster.

Though this is probably his last year in the NHL (unless Holland is GM somewhere next season).
Wings currently have 22 on the roster bud. Zadina would have played in lieu of Czarnik (by shifting Copp or Raz to center), and he'd be the extra forward right now.

Pretty sure Czarnik got sent down because GR needs him, and because the 7D scheme seems to be working if a forward does get hurt.
