Detroit Red Wings 23/24 season thread

He is forgettable haha

Maybe he wasn't a healthy scratch, maybe he was a forgettable scratch. Someone said to Lalonde after the game, "hey Justin wasn't dressed", and he was like, "oh yeah, you're right."! Then they met with Steve and he was like, "well, it will just naturally fix itself." "Meantime, move his gear to storage room B2.

Fabbri and Sprong battling the flu or something? Each have less than 10 minutes of ice time the last two games.

Media is everywhere the same, overpaid and unprofessional.

People forget that through 20 starts last year Husso looked like a legit #1 and willed that team to their start. This year we have no such luck in net, if we had

Similar record, completely different team in front of him offensively. If we had .920 goaltending this season we'd be close to a top team.

Husso has one season thus far (technically half since he only played 40 games) where he's been north of .900 SV%. I don't think we can expect him to be more than an .895 SV% guy.

That's a good question.

The last couple games Fabbri's TOI has been under 9 minutes, down from around 15 on average. Especially when you consider they were down a forward last night. It's a similar situation for Sprong, though he typically gets less ice time than Fabbri.

This team going nowhere. We need to get faster. Both Kane and Cat highly skilled, but slow, but they still effective because they play with Larkin. Raymond without Larkin, just a middle six player, Compher probably steal not 100%. Walman, Seider, Chiarot looking not bad should be not traded, but rest of our D and some forwards . Our prospects pool suddenly not as good as we thought , means we need to draft better and higher

It could be because he is not 100%

yeah the Wings having basically the same record while being 4th in the league in goals scored compared to being 24th this time last year really puts it into perspective just how bad it's been

I think they are both best served getting around 13 min a game. Obviously that is dependent on the game situation. For better or worse, the Copp-Ras-Perron line is our defensive (matchup) line. Having two players such as Fabs and Sprong who can feast on lesser matchups, bolsters our depth in a vital way.

They have a terrible streak with a bunch of injuries in December and suddenly Lalonde's an awful coach, Yzerman's a bad GM, all of the prospects suck, and the young players are overrated.

You guys are unreal.

I think without Larkin and Compher we should have been able to play defense. And with them back we should definitely be able to play defense by now. Injuries happen to everyone. I think it's not figure it out or the rebuild is a failure territory like some think, this was never that year. But there needs to be a little bit of accountability at this point, we are behind where we were at this marker last year with an improved roster in every position.

”We lost against Minnesota yesterday? Damn, I guess our 4th round pick in 2023 is looking like a bust!”

I'm not saying the team hasn't sucked. They've been awful and the lack of team defense is really concerning -- but it's important to keep in mind that they were missing Larkin, Compher, Perron, and Husso for most of this stretch in addition to others for brief periods (Petry, Fischer, Kostin, Maatta, Lyon).

A piss-poor December stretch doesn't mean it's time to fire everyone and move the team to Atlanta.

Perron is a 3rd line guy and Husso hasent been good in over a calander year.

The absence of Larkin and Compher hurt 100%...however, in our 6th year of the SY rebuild, the team should be in a position to better withstand those absences for a few games w/o completely collapsing

Just look at the usernames, lol.

The bandwagon fans are starting to disappear and the naysayers are back. The criticism about Lalonde, Kasper, Cossa, and Stevie's staff (Draper) has always been here.

I haven't given up on the season yet, especially now that Lyon is back. If Lyon plays as bad as Husso and Reimer THEN the team is screwed. This team is so soft though, I expect more injuries because opponents are gonna take liberties with the top players.

You're likely spot on here..

It's also likely some fans are frustrated..while some fans are very patient, others are more passionate..

That patience and passion are just shown sometimes in less than ideal ways..

But all of them are great fans

Watching some other games tonight. It's reinforcing my notion that the Wings issues lately are more psychological than anything else. Things get tough, they start running around with their heads cut off. Defensively they are either standing around slack jawed or chasing the puck trying to take somebody else's assignment.
Not sure we can judge 'the system', whatever that is, because they are too discombobulated to play whatever it is supposed to be.
When they are scoring lots of goals they feel great and manage to do things. The rest of the time?

What metrics are you using? Who are you comparing against? And in what sense is it SY's "6th" year?

The team is definitely positioned much better depth wise this year than in a long time, the fact that've struggled lately doesn't automatically invalidate that.

I mean....it IS true that this will be the 6th draft he has been here for
