What would that be? Play the young guys? Make the playoffs? Field a competitive team?
Gotta be honest here in saying that this team has a ‘bipolar’ feel with Yzerman as of late.

“Be patient - build thru the draft” - goes out and signs a slew of UFAs and trades for quality players…While on paper things look promising - what we see is a different story.

This. Husso was an absolute sieve last night. That said, I'd be ok with seeing if Ed can improve our defense any. I'm ok with Maataa, Holl, or Petry (even though he scored yesterday) sitting out for a game or two.

Petry and Chiarot are so bad defensively, it's pretty incredible. That first goal that Husso let, I have no idea why Chiarot thought it was his responsibility to try to go out to the point and challenge the shot when all he really did was half ass try and get there and screen Husso. The even strength goal Reimer gave up was so unbelievably bad too. Our goalies have some serious rebound control issues and I'm not even sure if that was a rebound or he lost focus and thought he could play the puck to a defenseman when nobody other than the player for Anaheim was near him?

It's called purgatory.

They're not bad enough to tank but not good enough to make the playoffs. They need to develop the players they have and look toward free agency and trades. We're not getting any top-5 picks barring something lucky happening with a trade for a first rounder.

DEVELOP a perennial Stanley Cup contender

They’ve lost their vision on the develop portion recently. Which is frustrating because this roster is absolutely in a place where you can do both at the same time

Year 6 of a rebuild should not have zero rookies, a Chiarot-Petry pair consistently getting the most minutes, and Seider+Raymond consistently sitting in the most important moments

And Edvinsson riding a bus somewhere near the border.

After I have seen the affect of the Sweden trip, short and long term I would be rather reluctant to go overseas again. All the other teams that went over to Sweden I noticed have not played as many games as jus. Great example, Ottawa, Toronto and the Wild.

What effect? Team played it’s best hockey after that trip. Stop finding excuses.

Wings continue to struggle with getting hemmed into their own zone via strong forechecks leading to giveaways. Before, the Wings only had one legit line, but now they have two (when healthy), but the actual defensive aspect of the team is very mediocre. They have a very tough time transitioning from defense to offense.

The forwards have done a good job using their speed to make up for their mediocre puck movement between the blue lines, but you just aren't seeing clean outlet passes that lead to quality entries into the offensive zone that allows the Wings to setup their offense. It has certainly improved over the past 2-3 years, but the team continues to struggle when they are chasing the puck.

This roster is giving off vibes of finishing 9-12 overall in their conference. That is a very tough pill to swallow.

Hockey gods absolutely shitting on us after the Kane signing
Larkin hurt, compher hurt, kostin hurt, husso hurt, lyon hurt, perron suspended 6 games... feels like some voodoo magic curse

This is what frustrates me about not having Ed up. Petry, Chia, Maata, and Holl all can't sling a pass to save their lives. Walman is probably average. Ghost maybe a bit better but needs defensive support. Seider is the only above average guy, but Walman has been engaging a lot more on that line which means our best passing dman is often stuck behind our net.

I'd argue at least half of our passes out of the defensive zone end up in feet, which either ends up coming right back at us or kills the transition. Its not just the long stretch passes either. Our short distance passes aren't much better and usually lead us to getting hemmed in along the boards. The panic threshold for anyone not named Seider is like at a constant 11 out of 10.

Ed gives another guy that can skate the puck, pass the puck, and has a bit of ice in his veins. Will it bite us on occasion, absolutely. He is not a finished product by any means, and he is going to have some defensive struggles. At least he'd help us negate the fact that teams can just kill us with a strong forecheck.

If you run out:

Seider-Walman
Ed- Chia
Maata- Ghost

You have a guy on each pair that can move the puck up the ice. All the pairs have an offensive and defensive element. They also have pretty solid size overall.

Petry and Holl need to be fill in guys.

Lately I’ve noticed Raymond turns over the puck pretty quickly and doesn’t generate much. Not sure what’s going on but just seems weak on the puck.

Kane is probably our best puck handler.

Stinks right now.

Need two wins the next two games or it might already be time to think about selling guys like...

Perron, Kane, Sprong, Fischer, Gostisbehere, Reimer. All expiring cheap rentals. Likely throw on Holl, Maatta, Husso to the list as also cheap gets with 1 year remaining.

Not saying all will or should be sold but these are the names I suspect Wings would be easily willing to part with.

I hated the kane signing. Team was rolling. Raymond was rolling. Now there's two 5'8" PP specialists in the top 6 that can't do any of the little things that contribute to "winning hockey" at 5v5.

Lalonde also needs to be on the hot seat. He consistently pushes the wrong buttons, as evidence by the wings top young talent regressing last season, and now seemingly regressing this season with the coaches not giving them any chances on the PP/6v4

It’s just not much of a rebuild, even if we win the next 10 games. The players that are supposed to be our future core are not getting the ice time they need to develop and learn, and Chiarot is being deployed as our #1D. Unless they win the cup with this strategy, it is pointless for the development of the team unless you think Chia/Holl/Maatta/Petry/Copp/Compher are going to win us a cup.

The point of these vets is supposed to be to insulate and support our core top young players, not supplant them.

Amazing how the sky is falling here and the whole rebuild is in question after a losing streak when the team was missing Larkin, Compher, and Perron.

At Home.
Lousy Anaheim team on tail end of back to back.
Missing Gibson, McTavish, Zegras and Drysdale.

It’s fair to ask questions after a loss like that.
It was a scheduled win if there ever was such a thing.

Yup...And it's another thing if this wasn't a thing - as in this trend has been going on now for some time...

We needed to give Cossa the chance to carry us
Yzerman from the owners suite at the LCA on Cossa's performance...

On the season, Seider has the highest ATOI of any skater. Raymond is fifth amongst forwards, behind Larkin, DeBrincat, Compher, and Kane.

The recency bias is out of control.

Cool, ask questions. It's a bad loss. It happens. It's one game that they lost by one goal.

And we’ve lost 6 of the last 7 in which Seiders ice time has been limited. Coincidence, I guess.

And yes I know people were injured, two things can both contribute.
