only thing I don't like about sprong that i've noticed, is that he tries to make an extra stick handle here and there and always loses the puck every time then goes slow on getting back on defense during this specific type of play. It gets annoying but I just love his shot and it has a lot of possibilities with it.

It is also annoying that they aren't setting him up on the powerplay for the one timers like they should have done with kubalik last year. They have great, hard shots, let them use it...jesus
Yeah i would like it more if Sprong would let it fly every time he touches it, dude has a hell of a shot.

I dont know how you guys feel but Kane with the Winged wheel jersey is so f***ing nice to me, and it's now easy to say that he can play and isn't hurting. I love it so much i cant even put into words.

Does our goalie coach suck or something? I just think it seems weird that we've had so many goalies look really good for us at first, and then gradually get worse and worse. Is this just a coincidence or what?

At the end of the day, Lalonde is the guy who decides who gets the net. It's puzzling why Lyon isn't getting more starts based on his numbers. Lalonde loves Husso, and defends him all the time.

Idk, he's really only been on the job one year, Alex Westlund, the prior coach was Jeff Salajko who's now Michigan's goalie coach. Salajko was here `16 -`21 Prior to them it was Jimmy Bedard and he was here forever...

So, Idk, maybe Salajko sucks, Westlund hasn't had a real shot.

I mean, Husso was really good for us for a while.

Nedeljkovic was also really good for us for a while. Then look what happened.

And I feel like there were one or two other recent examples I'm forgetting.

in the GDT I posted how I was frustrated by Husso starting again, but minus that puckhandling gaffe he and Lalonde proved me wrong.

Hopefully he turned a corner last night and we will see that guy more often. Otherwise I agree Lyon needs to be getting more looks on the off chance he can handle the starting job.

Mrazek?

I think it's that the Wings have been gambling on mostly unproven goaltenders hoping one of them would take the job. Guys like Mrazek and Ned haven't become more consistent after they left the Wings either.

Add to that save percentage is down for goalies overall this year. I can't say I understand exactly why but even the good ones are getting lit up more often than in the past.

I'd be curious how much power plays are up this year. Seems like half the game, one team has a man advantage anytime I watch. I'll admit this is the first year I've watched often in the last few.

Agree on everything you just said. for better or worse let's see what happens when Sprong is the triggerman on PP, if and when they will not replace Cat on the left half wall where Kane likes to go for the seem pass, put Sprong on the blueline. I mean Ghost had a great start for the season but lately he has been trash on the PP, try 5 forwards on the PP with the triangle of Cat, Sprong, Kane up top? Ok maybe not but at least put Sprong on the 2nd PP and not only put him there but use him, dude has a hell of a shot.

Let's say Wings is up a goal and there is a minute left on the clock and there is a faceoff on d-zone, who would you guys put up for the faceoff? Without looking at the FO% whos your pick?

I would normally say why not try it, but the problem is we already give up a ridiculous amount of odd man rushes and shorthanded goals, that when you put sprong out there as your last line of defense before they get to a squeaker goalkeeper, it aint going to be very pretty.

Jim Bedard left for Dallas and our goaltending has been shit since.

One thing I'm curious about but haven't been able to find the stats on it is I feel like the Wings have become a much better shot blocking team in the last couple seasons.

Well we have to stop passing like we have grenades out there. And stop chasing every team we play then maybe we'll forecheck and create scoring chances. It's not rocket science.

Also remember when Debrincat lead the league in goals? Been awhile. Was just a fluke. Man is the guy streaky. What is his issue??

I think our poor goaltending has like 80-90% to do with running journeyman goalies that lack talent and maybe 10-20% on coaching.

I mean look at the names we have run in net over the last 2-3 years: Nedeljkovic, Greiss, Hellberg, Pickard, Husso, Reimer, Lyon

That is pretty much a grab bag of rejects of goalies teams didn't want for one reason or another.

That says everything you need to know. Jim Bedard was not singlehandedly propping up our goaltending. If he was, he would probably still be coaching in the NHL.
