Every year it’s been the same song and dance for Zadina. Has a couple of good shifts in the game and leaves you wanting more.

He has been extremely snake bitten with the wings.

I hope this is finally the wake up call he needs to figure himself out as a player.

Would be happy if he excelled with another team. There is definitely some untapped potential still there. He has just been mediocre at best during his tenure with Detroit

Eh, seems Zadina is even worse than Kotkaniemi, so MTL fans must be overjoyed about their organization's drafting prowess.

In reality, I doubt he gets picked up. Making way too much $$$ for his role and being a "show me"-type player.
It's a GM, not an organization, and he and his foxhole buddies are gone. All it proves is that there were no good picks at that spot. KK and Zadina haven't worked out as of yet and Tkachuk had questionable offensive upside.

Filip Zadina was not an Yzerman pick...

... What you just did:

Didn't Yzerman sign him to that contract?

I'll say this: when Stevie's done with you, you're gone

Sorry, didn't know he asked for a trade when I wrote that.

Holland really screwed over the Wings before he left

2018 - Zadina 6th overall
2017 - Rasmussen 9th overall
2016 - Cholowski 20th overall (traded down from 15th [Chychrun] to dump Datsyuk's contract)
2015 - Evgeny Svechnikov 19th overall
For their failures I blame the developmental staff or Lack of one

Zadina drafted as a RWinger and then converted to the LWing! Brillant move Picasso...you don't draft an artist to become a plumber

Not sure if you watch any red wings games, but he jumped around a lot in the line up and it didn’t matter which line or wing he played, was always the same outcome.

Also your comparison is a bit (very much so) over exaggerated. It’s not like he was asked to play LD.

His ability to recover himself is perplexing, he honestly goes back into coverage when open at times. He has a heavy shot that he struggles to get off and staggers between glass hunters and logo hunters when he does get it by the D-man. He has struggled on a bad team. I thought last year would be a little different but he broke his leg quickly and looked like the same guy under the new staff when he came back. I didn't like the pick at the time because he lacked some of the athleticism you would like that high in the draft but he was touted as a big time player. It has just been real tough and he has failed when given opportunities.

I honestly hope he finds a new home and I wish him luck.

It didn't work out, but I don't think Zadina ever cheated on effort and wasn't trying to improve his game from everything I have read.

two years at $1,8 mill. Nobody wants that
My one crazy theory is that hollland and Yzerman have some agreement in place and Holland claims him tomorrow after Yzerman bought out yamoto.lol. Doesn't make aense of course but the yam buyout didn't make sense to me either.

AHL for zadina maybe ... No idea it's.not.goid. I was very high on zadina as a hope for CEch hockey.

I think Holland wanted rid of Yamamoto, without using a buyout, so Yzerman used cap space as a weapon and asked for Kostin in return, whom he actually wanted, for taking Yamamoto with the intention of buying him out. . Zadina has basically never looked good at the NHL level.

What terrible hot takes? That Compher got an overpay? That's just common sense. Sorry that you are wings fan that takes offense so bad to that lmao. 99% of people agree though man.

As for Zadina, A young player with some potential, is always a good option to take a flyer on. Only 23. Not like he's completely unplayable.

Ah, I get it now. You've never actually watched him play before. That explains everything.

As I'm starting to get the sense that you're a new hockey fan, let me educate you a bit. Zadina has actively gotten worse over the past 4 years. In fact "Zadina" and "potential" is loosely speaking, an oxymoron.

"Not like he's unplayable"

He actually kind of is unplayable for anyone who is even remotely trying to get better. Maybe Chicago has a spot for him because otherwise he's an AHLer.

Zadina was a consensus top 5, how exactly is that Holland's fault?
because the top drafting teams (and an unknown number of other teams) did not agree with this supposed "consensus". two of them went off the board and made large reaches rather than take zadina. despite the criticism those teams took and continue to take for doing so, both those players have turned out better than zadina.

and holland's scouting staff also had inside info on hughes from the world championship and still passed on him.

it was a massive failure of scouting of both players.
