Montreal dealt that first from Carolina to Arizona as part of the Dvorak trade. So, that poster got it mixed up what became of the Carolina first rounder.

That was supposed to be a draft similar to the 2012 which was Dman heavy in the top 10. Dahlin went #1 as expected, but then Montreal, AZ and Det passed on Q. Hughes. Dobson went after Kravstov as well.
Quinn Hughes was never projected to go in the top 5, he was a black horse to go there because of his offensive potential but I remember people considering him too risky for a top 5 pick. Detroit was his expected destination because of roots and the fact that they needed a top dman. Then Zadina "fell into their laps" which was a devil in disguise. Hindsight is another thing but guys like Tkachuk and Hughes were really polarizing at the time, Zadina wasn't.

Yzerman said Zadina asked for a trade, so he shopped him, nobody bit, so he put him on waivers.

TBF I think that was mostly fans of the teams picking immediately after Carolina hoping by some miracle of miracles the Canes would be dumb enough NOT to take the clear best forward in the draft (at the time, Tkachuk is that guy now) and making up convoluted reasons for us NOT to take Svech like the fact that Zadina played with Necas at the WJCs as if that's worth a f***.
Yah, it was the Necas connection lol. Some fans are just so tunnel visioned.

Just curious are habs still in rebuilding phase or are they looking to compete this upcoming season?
True no man's land. They will try and improve, but they honestly might have an even worse roster this year than last.

With an injury free season they probably end up with pick 8-12, with injuries like the past 2 years, top 5 almost a lock.

The only teams I feel confident are worse are the Flyers and Ducks, but most teams in our division got better

As many have mentioned, he plays hard and has decent metrics. Not great hockey sense, though. Scoring was easy for him in Juniors, but his shot isn't good enough to bury 40' one-timers in the bigs.

This doesn't surprise me as it's in line with your other terrible hot takes.

Zadina is a terrible player. The upside is an illusion, he's been given plenty of opportunities up and down the lineup and on the PP. He sucks.
What terrible hot takes? That Compher got an overpay? That's just common sense. Sorry that you are wings fan that takes offense so bad to that lmao. 99% of people agree though man.

As for Zadina, A young player with some potential, is always a good option to take a flyer on. Only 23. Not like he's completely unplayable.

You're thinking of two different draft for the Habs.
He's talking about the compensation for CAR offer sheeting KK, but he's still wrong MTL used their own pick on Mailloux. They got 22 1st and traded it for Dvorak.

Eh, seems Zadina is even worse than Kotkaniemi, so MTL fans must be overjoyed about their organization's drafting prowess.

In reality, I doubt he gets picked up. Making way too much $$$ for his role and being a "show me"-type player.

he'll get bought out. only 1/3 the salary because of his age. can't see a team taking him at $1.85m

It’s going to take a pick to dump his contract unless a team like Chicago or a team with boatloads of cap space are willing to take him in for free.

$1.8 and $2.7M for next year for an AHL’er will cost at least a 2nd round pick to dump.

He’ll be bought out next year if he remains with the club.
