I know that Tkachuk was a good pick , but the crazy lady in the stand was going nuts about Zadina .
You mean the KK pick.

I wasn't so annoyed but highly suspect of late risers. KK was hyped like he was some kind of 1OA secret find, particularly by McKenzie.

Turned out that Tkachuck wasn't a one dimension lug head and Zadina can't find his way out of a paper bag. The "soft perimeter 30 goal guy" turns out to be soft 10 goal bust.

I don’t know I didn’t look that far into it. Just thinking of a one time top prospect getting a potentially better role on a team with no cap concerns. If he benefits from the change we have another young player for no risk and no cost.

4.56 million over the next two years isn't exactly no cost; Anaheim didn't offer Max Comtois a 2.44 mil QO. That's an amount that's gonna spook a few teams who have the cap space but have internal budget constraints. As another poster mentioned, the Ducks might not have the roster spots. Ballpark forward group:

Henrique-Zegras-Terry
Killorn-Strome-Vatrano
Lundestrom-McTavish-Silfverberg
McGinn-Carrick-Leason
Jones

Mix in Leo Carlsson probably getting a look as well. Verbeek would have had some first hand experience with Zadina in Detroit as well, so it's possible he's not remotely interested.

If Zadina clears, I could see a team willing to swap out an unwanted contract for him.

Sorry I meant no cost in assets

Trust me you don’t want him. He’s the wings version of Pulujarvi - play killer.

Every wide open shot right into the goalies crest, others were blocked, not great along the boards, not enough size/physicality. Wings fans have been saying for years he will end up in Europe.

Anaheim, Chicago or Arizona will likely put a claim.
Habs very unlikely to do so considering the log jam we have at the forward position.

No surprise this has turned into a discussion about draft.

They have done in an interview with Holland about this in the past. He said they didn't expect him to be there so they took him. If he hadn't of been there they would have take Bouchard or Dobson. They were never going to take Quinn Hughes.

Dobson would have been perfect behind Seider.

Just curious are habs still in rebuilding phase or are they looking to compete this upcoming season?

Rebuilding 100%

We signed 0 UFA's that aren't likely AHLers

VAN fans really the only ones who can laugh here.

MTL reached for KK. Then didn't match him. Then used that pick to take a guy with some personal issues who openly said don't draft me.

Um, that pick happened before KK's offersheet.

If you take Dobson you probably don't take Seider though, he was projecting like a #1/2 RHD

Sounds like a player that lived off his skill until he made it to the NHL and doesn't actually want to put in the effort to get better. Some people just don't like training and working out. They can't all be 3x Stanley Cup Champion Phil Kessel. BTW, can we ever just call him by his name again? I don't think so.

In my books at the time it was Zadina or Tkachuk. I thought that KK was suspect because of the hysteria over one tournament.

I was 2/3 right. Or actually 100% right on KK and 50/50 on Tkachuk/Zadina.

You get to pick one guy at the draft, not this guy or the other. You would have said Zadina, and thus you were 100% wrong.

Everything ever said about him is that he works really hard. It’s not a laziness thing. His problem is the exact same problem many very skilled 17-18 year old wingers have… who ultimately bust in the NHL.

He is an outside player, and even though he’ll play in traffic, he can’t create space (he needs to score) in traffic. It’s very unique to the NHL because of the speed/skill level of your opponents.

A lot of people wrongly assume, that creating space is a speed or quickness thing. Far from it. It’s a feel for the game in traffic. It’s a muscle memory type thing that takes years to develop. Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille we’re natural wingers who created space in traffic. Michkov has the same exact issue as Zadina, Yakupov, and even Benson in this draft. Everything starts from the outside, because frankly, there’s space on the outside in every other league not called the NHL.

It’s also why you see a lot of natural Cs end up playing wing in the NHL. Especially smaller, quicker wingers. Guys like Nyquist, Tatar, etc, we’re Cs before coming over. They’d had years of experience playing inside, where you naturally develop the feel for creating space.

In the NHL you just don’t have that time and space (on the outside) you have in every other league in the world.. Still today, you watch Zadina’s shot and you think, how does he not score more?

It really is a coin-flip drafting skilled wingers. It sucks, but we just don’t know until they play in the NHL. In Michkov’s case, he may absolutely be able to do it. The problem is, we just won’t know until he plays games in the NHL. That was the case with Zadina too. Obviously different type of skilled players but skilled nevertheless. Both outside players.

So sometimes, it’s really hard to pass these guys up because they are so skilled. You cross your fingers and hope they’ll be able to create space in a league with no space. Like I said, a lot of it is natural feel for the game. So while you can develop the skill, it’s not a repetitive type training. Only game action (in the NHL) really allows you to train yourself IF you’re a natural skilled winger who plays an outside game and can’t do it yet.. That’s also why it’s not a concern with a player like Leonard. He plays an inside/out game. So he’s used to playing in traffic more. Most skilled wingers are outside players though. Especially from Europe. My concern with Michkov, is that nobody in the KHL will be helping him to develop a skill for the Flyers. So if he does struggle with it today, he’s going to spend the next 3 years not working on it, because in the KHL, Dmen collapse far too much. Skilled players don’t have to create that space. That was Zadina… and he still can’t do it 5-6 years later.

Unfortunately he won’t be the last outside, natural winger who busts.

Are you calling Michkov and Benson busting on Philly and Buffalo?
