If he plays stake expect to compete in the draft lotto Muzzin and Holl are the weakest links with no help in sight We lost lybushkin and replaced him with nothing so we lose some toughness there as well.

Sens are making moves to compete with the top 3 in the Atlantic. Trading Murray to Toronto is not the same as trading Murray to trash like Buffalo. Murray or any goalie for that matter is guaranteed to get lit up there, but take a goalie with decent skill and put him on one of toronto / tampa / boston / florida etc and they will be perfectly fine.

Logically the sweetener/retention we get from Ottawa will be less than the sweetener they would give a team like Buffalo. Why does Buffalo need to pay Murray? They are rebuilding, they are fine giving up 5-7 goals a game, they don't need to pay a goalie right now.

This helps decrease the sweetener loss a bit, but I agree we lost that aspect of the trade, even though I think Murray will be perfectly fine here. Hopefully he performs at a level we couldn't care less what the sweetener was.

They just had the best Leafs season ever? How is that getting worst? Why are we making stuff up to be angry about things?

No top free agents came here because we didn't want them. Last I checked, the Leafs priority were not to sign top free agents. Did the Lightning sign a top free agent?

The Murray deal parameters are proof positive we didn’t have a plan and we’re desperate, because Ottawa actually extracted even more than anyone here posited. Literally nobody said 75 percent retention was on the table, and yet…. Now we pray it works out.

Imagine if Dubas moved up 13 places the exact same from the second to the first and his detractors argued it didn’t really matter, like turn it around. Imagine the accolades from his pumpers? Every position counts, we would have never gotten that guy there, what genius to get a first rounder, etc, etc.
