You have to think there's at least discussions about getting rid of him.

No way they anticipated this goalie move to be so universally hated

Didn’t JFJ tell the board they need to rebuild after the lockout but they told him no and to find a way to stay competitive?

That was Larry T. I think, JFJ said it in his book. If that spirit carried over, it's probably not a stretch to suggest that things like Babcock being let go for reasons of public image were the case. You could say the same of Dubas and his new softer hockey as well. TBH even go as far as to say Shanahan was handcuffed by the board. Remember how fast Timmy L. abandoned the project here as well. It wasn't the weather lol.

Pat Quinn freely gave up his GM portfolio to John Ferguson Jr. then a year later got canned by the man he hired.

Ken Dryden was the official GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs for 2 years using Mike Smith as his daily operations man. It was during that time that Dryden lead the charge to sign Cujo despite Felix Potvin still being on the roster.
pat quinn did not give that up freely. he fought hard to remain as gm and begged not to be fired as coach the following season.

I really hope Dubas, Shanny, Pridham have their finger right on the pulse of what AM’s feelings are the next two years. I’m sure they do but they can’t take things for granted that he’ll automatically re-sign. It would be pure devastation if he walked in two years and we get zero assets back for him. I honestly don’t have a clue what he would be thinking. He’s mentioned before he loves Toronto and playing here is awesome, but every player when asked that question will say the same thing about their current team. He hasn’t once, as far as I know, mentioned his desire to sign an extension or play out his career in Toronto. If we take a slight step back this year and say are a bubble, wildcard team, and he still isn’t willing to give you an idea what his plans are, do you move him next season? I know it sounds insane and I do not want him going anywhere, but we have to at least entertain the possibility of it happening.
Matthews isint going anywhere lol. he has a chance to be a legend and the best leaf and leader in points, goals etc. one cup and his grand kids will be able to use their name to sell autographs on bloor street. hes not leaving..

I doubt there was any discussion. They already made their decision at the end of the season.
Yup and they were all pretty proud of themselves for actually putting up a fight this year

Both Shanny and Dubas should be shown the door by the end of the day today for total incompetence

I wonder if Shanny is going to have to hold a press conference to try and stem the tide of media and angst and fan hate of the Leafs right now
Nahhh there are too many blind followers who don't care about success. No pressure to win here. It's comfy. Promote everyone!

Tired: JFJ was crap

Wired: JFJ was the last GM in place when the team won a playoff series

This is just back to normal levels of fan skepticism and cynicism.

I was more optimistic about Raycroft trade and I hated that trade. And the Raycroft trade was like if Dubas traded Rasmus Sandin for Matt Murray.

Yes.

The prevalent thought now however, is that MLSE aren't nearly as involved as they used to be
Once that clown, Richard Peddie stepped down as CEO (2010 or 2011 - I think), both the Leafs and Raptors were allowed to actually conduct running the teams the way they saw fit. By all accounts Peddie was very valuable and successful on the business side (which was his job) however there were always stories of him meddling in the management of both the Leafs and Raptors in which he know nothing.

There's a reason many executives speak to highly of Tanenbaum - both TFC & the Raptors gave him the spotlight when they won their championships, and you've nailed why.

None of that really matters to him though, it’s not like he grew up a leafs fan. Look, I’m not saying he’s going to leave, I don’t know what his intentions are, but neither do you. Will he sign here again? Good chance but it’s not a guarantee either. If we don’t have success this year then I think there’s a very good chance he’s gone. I know he likes Toronto and has said as much, but he’s never said one way or the other if he’ll stay here long term.

With the money Kyle used for Gaudette, Aube-Kubel and Malgin they could have added 2.75M to upgrade from Justin Holl in a trade. 2M for Holl + 2.75M=someone better than Holl.

I'm a massive fan of Dubas moving his media availability to coincide with when Ross Atkins was meeting the media for the Montoya firing LOL.

Losing Lyabushkin is tough, we are back to lacking any D grit, crease clearing.
Embarrassing. Ran the grit through a broken down simmonds on forward, and runs sandpaper from the backend through muzzin whose one wrong turn away from landing on IR for a month.

Agreed but we couldn't pay him 2.75

I know they're not done but these moves are hardly inspiring
