He was put in charge at a tough time where he had to sign his star rfa's. The person he replaced which we were told was a major mistake had the chance to sign Nylander the summer before but decided the priority was near retirement Marleau at 6.5. He also had to improve the D core which again neither Burke, now looking for a new job.... again in Nonis, and Lou never could. He was able to sign his rfa's at higher amounts than expected which should be on Lou because he's shown here and NY he lets agents run over him. He improved the D core and pretty much revamped the entire D core except for Rielly. Sandin he drafted along with Dubas's development system made Holl into an NHL player. Liljegren was drafted by Lou but his development was in Dubas's system so thats a Dubas piece really.
Covid ruined some plans but he has done a great job adding pieces under a flat cap.

He just needs playoff success but the lack there of isn't on him. He has improved the team in difficult circimstances from Covid to cleaning up mistakes from other GM's. He inherited a team with young stars who needed new deals and a flawed up and coming team and done great things with it.
No he has not.
This last move should prompt his firing.
Not an inch of progress with this idiot in charge and now we have begun the process of moving backwards.
Nice glasses though.

I was willing to give him an incomplete. This is now a clear fail. 4 years, no further than we were when he was hired, and he just traded what limited cap space we do have for a 4.75m dollar broken goalie we have to pray returns to form.

We are way behind what we were 4 yrs ago. The pipeline is now bare of prospects, all traded away as a result of over paying his top guys. No money to spend, no first round picks, no first round playoff wins..Dubas has ruined was seemed like an incredibly bright future and i thought a stanley cup. Now I see Matthews looking at Dubas's moves and why would he want to stay in Toronto...I think u have to fire Dubas to keep Matthews eventually...

We're at about the point where a cross-section of HFboards Leafs posters would have made a better decision on the starting goaltender for this season.

That's how bad Dubas messed this up.

As someone who doesn't like the Murray trade, I have to ask:

What "better decisions" have HFBoards Leafs posters had for Leafs goaltending this offseason?

How stupid can posters be
We could have talked to fleury agent or samsanov agent and found out what it would cost us
And before anyone tells me we are not allowed to talk to agents about ufa ask yourself this question
The free agent period starts at noon Wednesday. So how in the hell can they announce signings at 1201x do peoplle actually believe a gm calls an agent and has a deal in place in one minute. Of course not they negotiated before the trade deadline. Why in the hell would we trade for a 4.7 million cap hit goalie whose best days are five years ago when we are trying to build a championship team now
Dubas has completely failed

Hf posters aren’t paid millions to make the right decisions...

I don't like the trade as much as anyone else, but we don't know whether it's the right or wrong decision.

There exists an entirely plausible scenario where the Leafs looked at all the remaining options, both in free agency and in trades, and felt that they were unreasonable or not worth the asset acquisition cost. It's not hard to believe that - Kuemper seems destined to Washington, and the next best option after that is, who? Overpaying Campbell with term and dollar? An unproven Samsonov? Giving up actual assets for an even worse goalie with a worse contract in Gibson?

Again, I don't like it, but I'm not throwing a pitchfork at the GM because of it until I see the sum of this team's parts.

so far this offseason, literally doing nothing would have been an improvement.

would have been better off hiring me to get high and sit at home.

Sadly you are not wrong. Funny you say this, I said yesterday I could make the playoffs with the 105 point team Lou left us by leaving it in auto pilot.

Ummmm Murray and mrazek today are same quality so nobody needs to have a decision. Even a 2 year old can come up with the idea of just drafting at 25 instead

STOP TRADING FIRST ROUND PICKS LIKE CANDY, even late ones. That's how you build depth in the NHL

This idiot traded down to get rid of mrazek then filled the cap space with a mrazek.

Basically trade was:

25th overall pick
1 mill in cap space for 2 yrs

for

38th overall pick
3rd rounder
7th rounder

The failure is not just the move alone, it's the last 3 years worth of moves that have put them in the position where the only choice they had was to panic and trade for Matt Murray and somehow only get Ottawa to retain 25% and also somehow only get a 3rd rounder for it.

Not only is it a bad concept of a trade - but how do you only get a 3rd with 25% retained when Buffalo, with less leverage, was willing to swap the 7th pick for the 13th pick at 25% retained.

Agreed, has yet to draft a player that’s been a true impactful NHL player here in Toronto. That to me is just wild. I don’t consider Sandin or Liljegren to be anything more than standard NHL players. That’s not good enough. he better hope one of Robertson, Knies or Niemala pan out. Or a lesser name like Minten, Abramov, Villeneuve. Signing a local player in Bunting and stapling him two of the best players in the game isn’t impressive to me. He’s gotta go and it needs to be quick, I don’t want him making anymore moves here.

Wait,

You think Murray is trash but the goalie he chased out of Pittsburgh still has life?

Goalies are a crapshoot. Pittsburgh and Vegas both chased Fleury out of town and now he's valuable. One good season and everyone's going to say Murray is a good goaltender, like Fleury now.

Dubas signed a goaltender coming off a .923 season the previous season and that goalie couldn't even clear waivers midway into his first season with the Leafs. Goalies fortunes can change quickly.

He’s gonna go down as one of the most disappointing GMs in franchise history and squandering the rebuild where we got a franchise centre to build around.

Unbelievable

I’m not a huge Dubas fan but I don’t think you can really know until next April. If this team gets past the first round and makes a deep run, how can you say that? I don’t even like Dubas’ moves that much but he still at the very least has this last year to prove it. It’s too early to make a statement like this.

And to be honest was he more disappointing than John Ferguson Jr? Hell no.

I think we’ve got a player in Villeneuve. He’s an NHL defenseman.

Compare the rosters they inherited.

lol, you're talking shit. Ferguson NEVER made the playoffs. Dubas at least has. Ferguson made atrocious trades and traded away a franchise goalie away in Rask. Traded our first round pick that would have been Couture a future #1 center for one of the worst goalies in the NHL.

It's not even close. JFJ was a horrible GM and probably the worst in Franchise history. I would also argue Burke was the most disappointing GM based on reputation. He drafted a few good key players but outside of that he destroyed this team.
