How do they not help each other out? That's how trades work. Need for Need. He probably could get more for Varly, but he doesn't have a ton of value anymore either. He is also injury prone, he's 34 yrs old making 5M and just had a season where his sv% dipped to .911. Varly hasn't played more than 50 games in 4 yrs.

Mrazek very well could continue his poor play or continue to have injury issues especially now that he is 30 but this year based on his career numbers does look like a one off and as I stated earlier, he can serve a purpose like bring teams to the cap floor. For example, if the Yotes need to get to the floor, they take Mrazeks cap hit, we save money to pursue say a Gibson, since we are a team looking for a deep playoff run and possibly have a cheap backup like Woll. I still don't necessarily see that as a winning combo but the parody around the league when it comes to goalies as well as the cap isn't in our favor. Unless we can draft and develop a Hellebuyck kind of goalie, we are going to have question marks for a while.
Islanders have zero need for Mzarek .

We ALL want to dump Mzarek without having to give up assets to get it done and i'll put it this way , if you were a GM of a team even a team that's needs to get to the cap floor who's tanking why would you take him without a large add when you could just overpay some desperate ufa's on 1 yr deals and potentially get something for them at the t/d ?

It seems as Granpa Cliffy use to say , we're trying to suck and blow at the same time , we're trying to sell him as a quality keeper even though we're desperate for a goalie ourselves

It would cost more to keep him in the AHL.

For fewer years though

Yepp if it was that easy to offload him you would have heard a lot more smoke

Thats still a good fourth liner/good third in cap used. I would rather just bury him in the AHL and have it on the books for two years if we're going to buyout

Because they can dump him for a B list prospect without needing to take the cap hit
Maybe. Maybe not. A lot of teams that are looking for a goalie are in the same position as us being close to the cap and would have to send a contract the other way. There is examples that I gave earlier like Arizona that could acquire Varly to get to the cap floor without sending a contract the other way. Then again, teams like Arizona might not be looking to move prospects since they are rebuilding. We'll see.

For the Leafs?
The Leafs lost in May. I suppose if you want to use losing to the finalist as an excuse fine. I use we weren't good enough as mine, but we all have excuses as you said.

I predict Dubas will make a trade tomorrow.
There may have been one in the works just waiting to be announced after the Cup. I hope there is something. We need some Leaf news.

This is a digital FU to you Dubas. so FU
