Is this a joke? He signed unprecedentedly bad RFA contracts with players who had zero leverage; and in the process built a culture that prioritizes everyone being good-natured "buddies" over collective grit, sacrifice and *winning*.

He's been an unmitigated disaster who squandered the best talent pool we've ever had, so much so that we haven't even yet exceeded the results of the vaunted Kessel era smh.

The guy doesn't deserve accolades - he deserves a participation trophy and a pink slip.

it very well could be. but I cant imagine if Matthews is interested in re-signing it would take very long.
Ok Auston how much would you like?
okay.....okay
Would you like that in cash?

So you're ok with paying one dude 16 mil a year ( the current max)

You decide!

Sure he was 50/50 on his free agency.

He hit with the cheap guys.

He whiffed with his bigger money blowing 6m combined on Ritchie and Mrazek.

I honestly think the only mistake he made with Ritchie is not giving him more time to figure it out. Exactly what we needed against Tampa and he showed what he can do in preseason. He just didn’t get adjusted quickly at all but I feel like he could of worked. Lyb was great but he could of been had for something else.

Also I recall reports of teams calling about Mrazek before the deadline like way before but if that’s true he should of offloaded him because he never showed any sort of hope what so ever from the beginning

I think Ritchie's problem was Keefe. Didn't fit SKs style of play and couldn't make a place for himself. Sometimes guys just aren't a fit. It was worth a try but I don't think plodders fit the clubs current coach and his style of play. If they want bottom 6 grit it needs to come with more speed.

About Mrazek I have my doubts. Why would anyone be interested in that deal with his results this year unless they wanted to hose the Leafs in a camp dump? I think he will be a lot better next year when healthy but there had to have been lots of guys who would give better results this deadline for less than $3.8M.

what I think has no effect on the team and no Id like him at a cheaper value
for all we know he might give a discount to the Leafs or another team.
No reason to get worried. come December/January of next season and hes not re-signed then we can think about wanting to trade him

Will Edmonton win more playoff games this year than the nine the Leafs have under Dubas?

This thread is the poster child for what’s wrong with the Dubists. Its also the strangest fixation with a GM I’ve ever seen in frankly any sport I follow.

It's absolutely unique to the Leafs.

Pretend for a second that Dubas wasn't a total failure and was able to ice a playoff team capable of winning a few rounds.

There'd literally be statues of him erected all over the GTA.

I think you’re confusing me for someone who gives a shit what you others’ opinions of success and failure are, I saw a team push the soon to be 3x cup champs as far as they’ve been pushed in 3 post seasons. I would’ve loved to of won a round, but I also see the process and the team growing.
Tampa literally just cake walked the big bad panthers, the team a lot here were creaming themselves over hoping the leafs could be like.
Hey Kyle, get off this board and do your job.

I’m making one with tin foil right now.

A huge part of it is that a lot of these posters see themselves in Dubas. He didn’t play hockey at a high level, so he doesn’t really understand the intricacies of the game. He uses analytics to understand what’s happening on the ice. It’s human nature to gravitate towards others you identify with.

There are a few here that are so invested in Dubas that I wonder if they actually believe if a non-hockey guy can succeed, then it will open up doors for HFboard posters to interview for the next GM job.

the whole reason people are calling out the dubas-keefe duo is lack of playoff success and them patting themselves on the back like they accomplished something huge

If leafs won in playoffs we wouldn’t be having any of these discussions but here we are…..

Here's some analytics for everyone: Your expected cup wins per 60 is higher if you don't dress Kadri for a round, then dress him for 3.... versus dressing our depth for 4 rounds.

It is quite odd for a long suffering fanbase like our Leafs who have this new generation of fans that think the Leafs GM and Coach need to be nurtured and coddled and protected like a young child would, while watching this management team get instant gratification from a handshake line on how they played, as opposed to being judged on what the Leafs team needs most of all Playoff Wins !!!!

I grew up in a time when you earned an opponents respect by defeating them, and bringing down a champion and taking over the mantle as the new champion in their place. .

Its a whole new world where its not the crest on the jersey, that matters most.

nah Dubas is a really nice guy so he's hard to hate. He has the personality of someone you want to see succeed.

I think the die hard Dubas fans are just really nice people who like other really nice people.

We need to inject some of our inner Kadri into them to wake them up. Have to separate the niceness from cup winning business.

Dubas will be okay. He has a very bright future ahead of him even if he gets fired.

We can just no longer waste the prime years of our superstar core on the development years of a GM who still needs to go learn what it takes to win in the playoffs. It's as simple as that.

*In hindsight it would have been better to let Dubas continue to bake as assistant GM because I do believe the day will come he figures it out. But the odds of us having a core of matthews-marner-nylander-tavares again in our lifetime is close to 0%, so Dubas eventually figuring it out CANNOT be prioritized.

He was put in charge at a tough time where he had to sign his star rfa's. The person he replaced which we were told was a major mistake had the chance to sign Nylander the summer before but decided the priority was near retirement Marleau at 6.5. He also had to improve the D core which again neither Burke, now looking for a new job.... again in Nonis, and Lou never could. He was able to sign his rfa's at higher amounts than expected which should be on Lou because he's shown here and NY he lets agents run over him. He improved the D core and pretty much revamped the entire D core except for Rielly. Sandin he drafted along with Dubas's development system made Holl into an NHL player. Liljegren was drafted by Lou but his development was in Dubas's system so thats a Dubas piece really.
Covid ruined some plans but he has done a great job adding pieces under a flat cap.

He just needs playoff success but the lack there of isn't on him. He has improved the team in difficult circimstances from Covid to cleaning up mistakes from other GM's. He inherited a team with young stars who needed new deals and a flawed up and coming team and done great things with it.

And you somehow think Kyle 'Spreadsheet' Dubious's signings are on Lou?!?!

I could see reverance if we’ve had success, but it was the day he was hired and he hadn’t done anything and still hasn’t I find amusingly odd.
