Dallas traded a young Iginla to win a cup.

A lethal scorer is just what this team needs.

Trading Byfield to win one more In the Kopi / Doughty window would be worth it.
I think Kopitar is too far gone as a player to have that mindset. I think you have to ride out his contract and hope the kids take the reigns and potentially pull something off when Doughty is the vet on the 2nd or 3rd pair years from now.

I just don’t have the faith in the youth that others have.

Currently this pipeline is stacked with tier 2 and 3 talent with lots of potential. You are going to have to make some moves or risk losing players to waivers eventually.

Will the player we trade end up being Tier 1 and coming into his game like Kempe did this season, sure but if we are getting back a 40 goal scorer then we still got what we were trying to achieve anyways.

Oh I get it. Trade some magic beans for a much needed cow. Only issue I see is the cow is going to produce less here.

Also Kopitar is only going to slow down more, the second half of the season was rough to watch. He’s always had moments in a season where he looked like he was skating with a piano on his back but this was the majority of the season. I’m not feeling confident about a bounce back season from him unless there was an injury of some kind, but really he could just be broken, there’s a lot of miles on that one.

No reason to be snarky. No one actually has the crystal ball.

Don’t worry though, in 3 years we can start hindsighting the shit about the moves and the told you so’s can begin.

No snark here. I agree with you, I’m just worried about trying to swing for the fences to win one more time with Kopitar. I’m of the opinion that ship has sailed.

If you're trying to build around a 35-year-old Kopitar that is delusional folly and is exactly the kind of thought process that led to decades of bad to mediocre Kings teams trying to take shortcuts to glory. This team is multiple impact players away from even being a Western Conference threat let alone a Stanley Cup contender.

LA should trade for another top six winger for next year, but go the Arvidsson route, not this. Until we have an idea if we have a real goaltender or not (Quick's 36 and Peterson is not reliable yet) there's no point in selling the farm for a goalscorer. That's Toronto logic.

A year from now, if we have between the pipes figured out and Byfield takes a step forward to off-set any Kopi decline, then you go for it. We;ll also have Quick and Phanuef's cap hits off the book and that's an additional $7 million in cap space.

A 24-year-old sniper who will be a RFA next summer, with two 40+ goal seasons, plus he scored 32 goals in 52 games in a shortened season. There really is no reason for Chicago to move him unless they’re blown away by an offer built around youth. The Kings have the assets, but is it worth it and is it the right time to pull the trigger on such a trade?
Wait.

lol, Hoven is pretty accurate most of the time....how did he hurt you?

There have been many instances posted and personal accounts of instances as well.
The year Carter was traded, in November he posted the deal to look for a potential Carter trade...something like a 1st, a mid level prospect, and another pick. (something ridiculous like that) Carter was already dialing it in and
lost his speed and could not beat a defenseman. (only later to have a resurgance in Pittsburgh, to a slightly higher level, once gone)
I responded on his twitter that Carter had lost his speed and was nbo longer able to beat a defenseman and was no longer shooting those wristers past goalies...looked like he has dialing it in....and the Kings would be lucky to get a 2nd round pick for him. (and they couldn't, of course, months later)

And he blocked me. You can't go against his opinion, even if you make a valid point or discuss anything with him. He's so authoratative and acts like the final word on all things, pertaining to the Kings...'here's the cap situation and what the Kings can do" Like he has the blueprint of what Blake can do...like Blake can;t be creative and do something totally different, than the narrow minded blueprint Hoven presents....and then there's "you ned to get caught up on these things: Kempe's contract, Free agents, etc etc" This is your reading today to get caught up' It's so off putting, at a minimum.

A few years ago, I wrote Lughes4Hughes on his twitter and then later, he wrote it and acted like he made that up.

Ultimately it's not even about my thoughts on Hoven, it's that there are a million reasons Blake should be doing his due diligence on Debrincat, plenty of reputable people have reported it, we have the assets and they have the reasons. I don't give two f***s that Hoven is like 'lol no, you need to read.' GFY. It's simply reasonable for the Kings to show 'interest' as vague as that is and just as annoying and antagonistic as ever for Hoven to be mocking people thinking it and the simping for him is approaching those weird f***ers who always protect Elon Musk.

Sorry I don't like your favorite fake reporter talking shit all the time, there should be a million other things that bother you a lot more throughout your day.

Cute...I actually agree with some of the negative points about Hoven as I've had DM interactions with him as well. IMO though, at the end of the day, he provides some of the best 'insider' Kings material out there. Would it come off better if he was bit less pompous? Absolutely...but I'll also give credit where credit is due.

Next time, throw in a 'strawman' reference so you are fully engaged with the cool kids keywords of the month.

He said DeBrincat makes sense in the shorter term, but in the long term, he doesn't think it's a trade they want to make. He said nothing about having zero interest.

I know I'm not going to change your mind on his personality or approach, but you are having very visceral reactions to something you would have received a specific answer to 30 seconds into it.

Debrincat would be a great pickup. I still think they trade the assets for Chychrun though and sign Forsberg.

Well it's too bad he lost a listener by being a chode then.

In the past I would have simply tuned in before rushing to judgment buuuut when rushing to judgment is his attitude towards listenership you reap what you sow.

I guess well sourced and rational thinking Mayor.

How dare you bring rational thinking to this thread.

Rational thinking would be "everyone BUT the guy with a vested interest in preserving access says X, guy with vested interest in preserving access says Y, I'm going to lean towards X while keeping my options open."

But instead you chose "lol Y all the way, there's no possibility of X."

Not sure if his justification makes any sense though, given that DeBrincat is still 24. He's younger than Kempe, and DeBrincat would actually be the youngest player in the Kings' top six.

Now if he suggested the contract to retain him could be a roadblock, that would make more sense.
