He is a great player, a gamebreaker we need. Saying that he’s another small body and his actual seller for next year is $9 million. Does that not mean his qualifying offer for the year after that has to start at 9,000,000+?

He is not a game breaker.

He is the same kind of stat padding guy like McDavid and Draisaitl playing in an AHL like division.
Guys who only pursue their own stats with little regards for team playing shouldn't be our target

Wouldn't the top goal be....to win the cup every year?

You couldn't be more right.
This is why Kopitar and Doughty are not in the long term plans, since they don't have what it needs anymore.
Also this answers the question if we should trade for players to play along Kopitar and Doughty
or trade for players to go with our future core

That’s why it’s not really a bad take either. I’d be over the moon to see 3-4 years of Kings hockey where they actually aren’t a trash or mediocre at best hockey club. That’s why the cup wins are honestly so short lived. Because you never could really tell this team was going to win because they were painful during the regular season.
The Kings really haven't had a great regular season in about 30 years.

That’s why the cup runs didn’t hit as hard as I thought it would for me. Especially 2012. It was so perplexing they did so well that it felt unreal to me.

I’d give up a lot to just be a Kings fan where the team ended up finishing top 3 in the NHL just so one regular season for as long as it is could be thoroughly enjoyable. The cup wins were pretty weird to me. Like if I was an Avs fan I’d be pretty happy to have a great regular season and playoffs. Unfortunately I feel like I was kind of robbed of that. Nearly 2 months of really good hockey vs 7 months of mediocre hockey is a pretty steep trade off.

There was a pretty strong narrative among fans that deemed the Kings to be lucky to be in the playoffs since they weren’t really a good team. When I first saw that I blew it off and then when you start looking at the reasons closely.. the kings weren’t winning most meaningful games in the western conference which is a pretty bad sign they can’t win important games but they were pretty much in the playoffs because they were playing the east where most inter-regional matches don’t mean anything really.

And then you look at the Kings playoffs this year. Quick pretty much kept the games close and outside of game one our best forward was gone. So it really puts things into perspective. That’s why when people call me negative I really wonder how they’re actually positive of this roster and the outlook when there isn’t anything that’s been shown to be positive about. Playing Kopitar most the game should make me positive about the rookies ? I don’t get it.

Also I have no faith in TMac as a coach and he got bent over by Woodcroft. He didn’t adjust a single bit while Woodcroft revamped the entire team and Todd did nothing but spectate

Sounds like the San Jose Sharks are more your speed.

I'm not saying that to talk shit, truly, just looking at your description.

He would struggle to crack 25 goals with the Kings and without Kane feeding him. I'd give up most of these packages for Pastrnak but wouldn't offer much for DeBrincat. I'd prefer Fiala...
I agree. I also think Fiala costs less and he scores with anybody, and gets a ton of goals from just going to the net. Would be nice to get a right handed shot for variety’s sake but what can you do.

The advanced stats show that he's not a product of Kane.

I don't have much of an opinion on whether or not the Kings should pursue him, but I think he's a very good player in his own right.

I'm not really sold on the idea that Chicago wants to even move him. Toews and Kane both come off the books the year he needs his new contract.

The Blackhawks have 53M in cap space right now for the 23/24 season. Even if Toews and Kane re-sign it won't be for anything close to the 21M they're taking up currently.

They can be very patient with Debrincat and wait for an offer that really suits them.

Well just strictly even with the two cups, sharks fans have seen a lot better peak hockey over years vs 4 months. It does kinda suck to be a fan of a team who at best is mediocre middle of the pack for eons now it seems. I don’t think the shark fans have suffered all too much at all considering the fact their teams pretty much played really good hockey for a long time. Just didn’t win a cup. We’ve seen a lot of bad hockey with the some sprinkled random unicorn events where the Kings played good for 2 months and returned back to being mediocre for another 7. And those two events happened twice. And they have pretty much sucked in the regular season as long as I can remember so yeah I am a bit salty that the Kings are mediocre at best during the regular season

I said a bit earlier that it's a lot like the Chychrun situation, they don't HAVE To move him, there's maybe a clock until he gets paid but it's a long one, so no rush, but may as well throw out the feelers and see if anyone does anything reckless.

Yeah like I said not attacking you. It's just two different flavors. I personally wouldn't trade those two Cups for anything because as mediocre-to-bad the Kings ahve been the rest of the time that payoff was so, so worth it. But I can't begrudge anyone for wanting to sit down any given night and expect a team that scores 3+ goals and flys all over.

god forbid we have an actually good regular season team for once. It wouldnt kill them to not make us doubt them every turn.

I'll take a couple more cup teams that barely get into the playoffs over some President trophy winning playoff disappointments any day. You follow the team/play the game to raise the cup, not gloat over some regular season wins.

Go ask some Canuck fans how fun that 11-12 season felt after winning all those games only to go home after round one. 51 wins, Presidents Trophy, 4th highest scoring team in the league, and they went golfing after 5 playoff games. Do you think for one second they wouldn't give some of those wins and that "enjoyable" regular season to actually win the whole damn thing?

Complaining about wanting fun regular season wins over cups honestly comes off as really spoiled.

And there's so much revisionist history over the 2012 Kings "barely" making it into the playoffs. IIRC they actually clinched a playoff spot first of the Pacific teams, but losing games at the end dropped them in seeding, hello Ryane Clowe stick from the bench incident.

it's like the Duck waving all their division banners year after year in our faces. How many cup did they win over that time?

Kings 0 division titles, 2 cups in 3 years.
Ducks-123 Division titles, ZERO CUPS!

How many goals last year were memorable because of skill versus impact on the game. Is it so bad to be a fan who yearns for more than one shift a month where some skill was on display?

Shhh don’t let Axl hear this. He doesn’t believe this kind of stuff goes on.
Not true, I now totally believe the organization does everything they can to lose games rather than win them thanks to the brilliant minds that populate this board.

No they’re trying their asses off, it’s just that management isn’t smart enough to build a champion.

Not in the slightest, I think everyone yearns for that.

But saying you'd replace the Cups with that? Why can't I say, generously, that's debatable?

I had a good laugh thank you, genuinely.

In the past 30 years, the Kings have only had a top 10 record 3 times:

2013-14 9th Overall
2012-13 7th Overall
2009-10 8th Overall

0 top fives.
0 division titles.

No 40 goal scorers since 93-94 (Robitaille)
No top 5 point players since 93-94 (Gretzky)

Pathetic.
