To me, QB, Clarke and even Kaliyev are off limits. QB is the future 1C, Clarke is basically future #1 D and Kaliyev scoring 14 goals as a 4th line rookie, with a future power game and 30+ perennial goal scorer, would not part with one of them. I'd try to keep Chromiak out of it too. Can't imagine Faber is in play, unless the Kings feel he won't sign. (but would he sign with Chicago?)

The 2022 #1, Vilardi + Grans seems to have been the 1st offer. I would add the 2023 #1 OR 1 of Thomas, JAD, Durzi (he seems like a Hawk type guy) Fagemo, Madden. Would honestly try to keep Turcotte. If he gets healthy, he's still going to be a good NHL player. Not saying he holds up a deal...but then would not give up 2 #1s. Another pick would have to be a second.

DeBrincat Kopitar Kempe
Moore Danault Arvidsson
Iafallo Byfield Kaliyev
Grundstron Lizotte Kupari
Lemieux

Anderson Doughty
Bjornfot Roy
? Spence / Clarke / Walker

PP this past season: Kopi led with 6 goals, 22 pts. Kempe and Kaliyev also had 6 PP goals.,
Debrincat had 14 PP goals and 28 PP pts.
Makes the Kings PP middle of the pack, which alone would have added 7-10 points in the standings.
Great post

Great post
Thanks!
I have also had some mediocre posts.

I think there may be some big names moved this offseason.
I think Bluc wants to make a move or 2 that moves the needle and BeBrincat
seems like a good target...if you can add a 24 yr old that has had 2 40 goal seasons,
without costing 1 of your top 3 prospects, you do it.

He had 78 pts, 38th overall....Kopi was top scorer at 67 pts and 61st overall.
The Kings need to upgrade their offense and think they are going to address that
this offseason. BeBrincart does not move the Kings to the top 1/4 in offense,
but would do a lot to get back to middle of the pack, at least and improve the PP.

Hard to know if they could sign any of: Forsberg, Gaudreau, Nichushkin and a deal for
DeBrincat or someone of that level makes sense.

Re: this rumor of #1 , Vilardi, Grans...yes, it's probably going to take more....but the 19 OA, while not a top 10 OA,
is still going to land a good player. Vilardi is still a good young player, that will be better and Grans is one of the better under 20 yr old pro defensemen, with lots of upside.

What’s the top goal here? Is it to win one more cup with Kopitar and Doughty before the last contract is done? Or something else?

The Kings have too many guys that are competing for spots and losing value after their drafts.

Vilardi Grans and the first is low ball.

Turcotte two first and Clarke is a no go.

Cat is 24 and just scores. I’d love to get him but you don’t give up Byfield/Clarke/or the 2023 pick (unless protected)

Seems like Chicago wants to trade him to fill multiple holes. Makes you wonder a bit tho.

I’d do a Turcotte/Faber/22 pick base and tweak as needed. Not sure Chicago would.
That last offer is also exactly what I thought based on 1 year of Debrindcat and what I believe will be a 9M qualifying offer next season. Only minor tweak if any needed. If he doesn’t resign we own his RFA to trade.

Winning the cup is an objective. A goal is a specific outcome along the way to getting to the objective. Winning with Kopitar and Doughty is specific.

Fair enough.....ok, winning the cup with a collection of 23 players irrespective of who they are lol,

But in all seriousness, I get what you are saying, but I don't think anyone but fans care who it is that wins the cup

Agreed, I don’t care who wins it. It’d be nice to have 1 this decade is my hope.

We're not realistically winning the cup the next two years (Kopi). Some crazy stuff would need to happen -- and it could (couple young guys explode, major trade that ends up heavily in our favor, Avs/etc. take step back due to FA losses, etc.). But it's extremely unlikely.

Drew is a different story being signed for five more years (not two like Kopi). Definitely the goal should be to get another cup before DD is gone. Meaning within five years. Realistically, the team continues to build and grow these next 1-2 years; and then years 3-5+ is serious cup focus. If it happens sooner, then great.

The only two real windows is going for it next year, then I don't see a window until 6 years out.

An interesting contrarian take.

The Kings cup winning years featured mostly boring hockey.
That’s why it’s not really a bad take either. I’d be over the moon to see 3-4 years of Kings hockey where they actually aren’t a trash or mediocre at best hockey club. That’s why the cup wins are honestly so short lived. Because you never could really tell this team was going to win because they were painful during the regular season.

The hard part about about assessing what a player would add to your team is trying to accurately control for how much a great player on their team is influencing their output. Perfect example is DeBrincat. He has always played at the NHL level with Patrick Kane who I think is the greatest American forward of my lifetime. An absolute offensive machine. Whenever my wife and I see the Hawks in person I tell her "just lock onto #88 whenever he is on the ice. He will do something amazing every shift"...and he does.
You cannot properly evaluate DeBrincat for the Kings without subtracting production for the 'without Kane' factor. Kane gets the Hawks into the offensive zone on the PP almost automatically. He draws attention, opening up lanes. His vision and passing ability are magnificent. Those will not be present on the Kings.

I like DeBrincat, but am hesitant he'll be a good fit for the Kings. You add another small guy, that's 3 very small forwards in DeBrincat, Arvidsson, and Lizotte - and 2 in your top 6. I'm not opposed to having a small goal scorer but you're rolling a very tiny individual out there for almost the entire game between those 3. If anything, the Kings need to get some size along with skill to be able to last in the playoffs. Is DeBrincat being that piece to go all in on worth it?

I am curious about the Kane effect. Didn't watch a lot of Hawks outside of when they played the Kings, so here's a comparison between the two on the playdriving side. First is a 3 year sample, second is last year only.
