Over his 6 seasons he has averaged 34.1 goals.

Someone is going to want him. I think this year hurt his chances at 9.5 million.

I am really curious what he will get and who will get him. Do the Wild have anything that could work / cap space available?
How many of those are PP vs ES.

it’s about ROI= return on investment. How much does it cost for 2 players who could put up 18-23 on avg goal scoring years or a recent high draft pick on an ELC?

thr big issue is Debrincat is NOT a play driver. He relies on who his linemates are and the situations used.

No one is paying a one dimensional undersized goal scoring winger that much money. He's never scored 80 points and doesnt drive a line. He had good linemates last year and they got folded in on 5 on 5. Great complimentary player on a team with size pace and good analystics not a good fit on the sens roster.
Caulfield just got ~8 as an RFA, and is far more one dimensional.

Based on a few deals and expectations for the likes of similar producing players, Debrincat will be looking 8-9.5.

Trade great young players. Is for me always Stupid.

The reason good young players are highly valued is because the current makeup of the cap almost ensures young-players are underpaid relative to their on-ice impact.

The Blackhawks trades Debrincat because

A) His positive on-impact ran counter to the direction/goal of the team at the time

B) He would soon be paid MORE than his on ice-value by virtue of the UFA market pushing up prices.

At the end of the day, it made sense for the Blackhawks to move on when they did, rather than be in Ottawa’s position themselves right now.

Caufield also had 4 yrs of team control, not 1 yr from UFA.

yes I think Caufield was overpaid too given his one dimensionality.

This Nashville fan would love to add him, but I don't think Saros is anywhere close to in the discussion. Askarov maybe but not sure on that. I'd question if we decided Askarov was in open trade options, that we couldn't use him to target a better option in fit (concerns of what DeBringcat is going to ask for or even extend). I was hoping like a Tomasino and one of our picks could get it done, but even that seems to get pushback from most of our own board.

DeBrincat makes sense for us if we either move Duchene(32 vs 25) or Tomasino who he'd be a clear upgrade over. I guess it depends on where Trotz sees us. I wouldn't want to deal either of our goalies for him that's for sure.

I'd honestly like to keep Duchene to see how he functions in a more open offensive system.

Now who would play center for us is a different question if Johansen can't return from his injury and get some speed back.

DeBrincat is definitely getting underrated around here.

He may not be the elite goal scorer he was when he played beside Kane, but it is worth noting that his shooting percentage this year was significantly lower than his career average.

Any Sens fan will tell you the eye test confirmed that. Dude couldn't finish to save his life this year.

He'll probably go back to scoring 30-40G and 70-80P with some other team, which is worth 7.5-8M a year, especially since he's only 25 and young enough to fit with the core age of teams trying to go from rebuilding to making the playoffs.

How do Nashville fans feel about pinto/cat for saros + something meh to average? As a sens fan it hurts to think about trading pinto but saros is that guy.

DET: 2024 BOS 1st + 2023 2nd (41st) + Albert Johansson
OTT: Alex Debrincat

Does that move the needle? Does it have to be a slightly better prospect such as Wallinder?
