This is a silly thread.
Ottawa isn’t trading Sanderson for Debrinkat, neither does Chicago want to trade Debrinkat - nor do they feel it’s enough even if they wanted to…

Sanderson's last year in college blew MCAvoy's out of the water. That's not to say he's going to come in and light the world on fire, but that seemed like an odd add to the list. Sanderson's numbers are roughly equivalent to Makar's numbers in his last season as well. Fox is tough to judge since he played the extra year, but he wasn't even (quite) PPG in his 2nd NCAA season.

I don't value Sanderson as high as (some) of those guys, but the season he just had in North Dakota absolutely puts him (close to) on par with those guys as prospects. TBD if he came make the same kind of impact at the next level.
Those guys listed far outperformed expectations from when they were prospects. McAvoy and Makar both stepped into playoff rosters and still were amongst the top players. High hopes, indeed.

Slavin is Sandersons floor. Jake will be a great NHL defender but his offensive ceiling is much higher.

His college production/performance is more analogous to Makar than Slavin.
Okay sure but he's more likely to reach his floor than his ceiling. Or somewhere in the middle like a Heiskanen. Unlikely he becomes as good as Makar and Fox.

You can believe what you want, but he's right, when you say things like this, it makes people question you as an evaluator. You can say that he's not elite, but I think the vast majority of people would disagree with you. Sure, he plays with Kane, but he's put up better numbers than every other player Kane has played with in his career, on much worse teams. He has 2 40 goal seasons and is a great two-way player. He's absolutely an elite winger.

His last three finishes for wingers in points is 24, 11 & 56. That is not elite to me. That is what I mean by subjective terminology. Huberdeau, Ovechkin, Kane, Marchand, Panarin and Draisaitl are examples of elite for me (and yes Draisaitl has qualified as a winger this year).

He is also tiny with no physical game to speak of.

I think by definition any player is most likely to be somewhere in the middle of their floor and ceiling.

I also wouldn't trade Heiskanen for DeBrincat.

Who have all those wingers played with outside of Kane and Cat? Every single one mentioned are on teams in the hunt. They have strong supporting casts and don’t rely on Kane and Debrincat like the hawks have. Pretty sure the only player to reach 50 points this season outside of them was Seth Jones lmao. You’re cherry picking guys like Drai and being a bit reductionist trying to table point rankings while he’s finished as a top goal scorer every year. Give me advanced stats and what’s relative with the rest of the league to judge him by if you’re going to make that argument.

Yeah you are right. Debrincat is a physical beast that is completely Elite. Much higher tier than Draisaitl, Huberdeau, Ovechkin, Marchand or Panarin. If he was on a better team he would have one back to back to back Art Ross & Hart Trophy's.

I'll change up the offer. Norris, Stuetzle, Brady Tkachuck, Chabot and Sanderson for DeBrincat plus whatever cap dumps you want. It's not like all those pieces are individually worth more....

From his rookie year to now he is ranked 9th in pts, 3rd in goals amongst LWs...

You said he had no physical game to speak of. Got called out for being dumb and now speaking in Hyperbole to hide your pride.

This board overrates prospects so much its hilarious.

so you would have traded away Makar or Byram as prospects for an elite player that didn't fill as much of a need?

people pretend they know the prospects or the organizational needs of other teams so much its hilarious.

Wow, you are a real keyboard hero, feeling like you are slam dunking on hockey talk..."got called out"...Jesus. Get a life.

A few a few cherry picked videos and a fight with all 160lbs of Sammy Girard doesn't a physical game make.

Do you really think that the consensus view is that Debrincat is "Elite" and on the level of players I mentioned? Unquestionably so? There are 4 players on the Sens that have more value and two more i wouldn't trade one for one and we are not very good...

Why are all blackhawks fans so salty...something about living in Chicago?

Which is fair I wouldn't either, my only point was that some sens fans in here are so sure that Sanderson will end up becoming like Cale Makar.

Well…..

There’s a lot of confusion on account of the Hagel trade. Most Hawks fans think every trade should go like that when it comes to the guys hanging on their walls.

As an honest Hawks fan, I know DeBrincat has limited value on account of his next contract, nor do I fault any Sens fan with some of these horrible proposals.

Just take most trade proposals with fans on certain teams with a grain of salt.

And for the record, Chicago is beautiful. It’s just filled with a bunch of morons. (Thumbs up)

Appreciate the reasoned analysis. I don't think that anyone is saying Debrincat is anything but a good player. Asset value and past performance are not perfectly aligned, particularly in a cap environment.

Truly "elite" players generally transcend other considerations.

As an aside, I wasn't trying to a shot at Chicago as a city. Beautiful city with great arts and culture. I am there for business often. Too cold though. My thought was that maybe the (unfair?) "Second City" label makes sports fans a bit more defensive.

Agreed.

Cat is a good player in an environment where he can thrive.

He’s not this two way player many would want you to think he is. Kane and Cat are relied upon for offense and their zone starts testify as much. He’s a monster 3v3 but he’s not the second coming of Hossa.

Is he worth a first and a prospect? Yes. Is he worth a first and a blue chipper like Sanderson? LOL nope

And second city has more to do with the fire. It’s the second time Chicago was built up. No offense taken

Interesting, it was always taught to me as second city as in to NYC.

No one is sayin he'll be Cale Makar, we're just saying Sanderson has top 5D upside, whether he reaches that only time will tell.
