Winter is Coming
The Jets are a good team, Scheifele just made a huge mistake and that f***ed the team up.

The Jets are right now gripping their sticks too hard and are not thinking straight.

This falls on the coach, the coach has to get this sorted out but the Jets coach has no idea what to do.

If the Jets were smart they fire Maurice and go after Gallant hard, I think he he would be the perfect coach for this team.

Unfortunately this series is over.

Yes get gallant and the favoring vets to better performing younger players will totally change. Just ask Perfetti about gallant at the WHC.

Jets need a Bednar type. Maybe Vincent is the guy... Maybe Lowry is... I dunno but it's not Gallant who can't stuck around longer than a couple seasons. You need an up and coming guy not an older stuck in his ways guy.

Jets need a young bit chiller John torterella. A guy who will hold players accountable regardless of who they are.

Wheeler needs to go out next game and finish off the Chariot fight they had a few years back.
I think Wheeler is a huge part of the equation. Laine definitely wanted out because of some things going on.
There needs to be some new leadership

I feel better about the Jets losing to the Habs, when they should not have, knowing either of these 2 teams will get by Vegas, or Colorado.
They have not lost yet?
The games are close and it seems like the Habs are getting the bounces but the only problem is the Jets look like they have given up.
Hopefully that changes tomorrow ... seriously the Habs finished a 7 games series and are playing 3 games in 4 nights there is no way that they should beat a rested team 4 straight. If Bettman knew it would be this easy for the Habs I'm sure Scheifele's suspension would have been only one game.

I agree with your post Raider, but it's not looking good for the Jets. I'd at least like them to win the next game, and then who knows? I very much agree that Bettman "regrets" his 4 game suspension to Scheifele. He basically ruined what could have been a great series.

One player doesn’t make a team, losing Schief shouldn’t mean the team is this bad!

team checked out after the Oilers series fluke!

Watching this team just crumble into a million pieces makes me think about the time that was utterly wasted at the end of this season.

The Jets knew for an extended period of time that first place was unobtainable in the division, and that it was likely going to be Edmonton - regardless if they finished 2/3.

The losing skid started to happen and all we heard was the usual jargon from our press conference champion coach about the team "playing the right way" and that the team was simply "getting their game right" throughout that stretch.

Total and utter f***ing BS.

That was the perfect time to start to ease in players into the line-up who could help in situations like this (Heinola) and start to give some looks to different line combinations and defensive pairings. Nobody is saying they could be well prepared for another Scheifele loss in any capacity - but it wasn't working - try and mix some things up to get some guys like PLD going in some capacity. The worst case scenario is you can build some much needed continuity with players and see what works and what does not.

I never expected this team to go out and hoist the Stanley this year. However; so many moments to tweak and test personnel were just flat out squandered, and I can't help but wonder if this team would be better equipped to handle these moments instead of looking like absolute chickens with their heads cut off.

When Wheeler realizes that he is not a top six player anymore then the team will be better off but you need a replacement for him and we don't have one atm.

Wheeler is a great leader - I think the guys have a lot of respect for him, and so should we. He has dedicated his career to playing with us, and that is no insignificant thing. Winnipeg is a hole compared to most other NHL markets, so I will always be thankful. With that said, he just can't do the minutes we're asking of him, nor can he compete against the boundless energy of some of these youngsters. Father Time is ever creeping unfortunately, and he is slowing down... I still believe Wheeler has a lot to give, and it cannot be questioned that he has the skill and the heart to keep playing - you see spurts of it occasionally, but he just can't keep doing 20+ minutes a night against top lines. He's a very proud man, so broaching that topic with him will be difficult in the offseason, but it must be done. He needs to be a 2nd or 3rd line guy.

As for our issue in this series (and with this coaching staff period), it comes down to systems. Paul Maurice doesn't know how to counter a neutral zone trap, and everyone else in the league knows its his achilles heel. He's never figured it out. I'm not sure if he ever will at this rate, because he's been in the league for such a long time. He doesn't know what to do.

We're screwed I'm afraid.

This must be the most unresponsive, disconnected team in NHL history. Its like the Jets are that dog in the burning house saying:

Game 1: "This is fine"

Game 2: "I'm okay with the events that are unfolding currently"

Game3: "That's okay, things are going to be okay"

I don't think they don't care, they showed frustration at the end of the game which is far more than Toronto showed in game 7. They have no clue what to do and it shows, and they seem rattled by the slightest adversity in the playoffs, and that's all on the coach.

That's why getting the first goal is so important against the Habs because they are nowhere near as good when they have to play from behind. There's a reason they've won 6 playoff games in a row and that's because they get the first goal every time. Put one in early and the ice opens up.

I spent watching The Expanse instead of the game after the league ruined this series for me. Seems like I made the right decision.

Yeah I definitely expected more from this forward group. 4 goals in 3 games. You'll never win a series like that.

The habs are playing like a well oiled machine. None of the parts are much good but together they really shut the offence down.

Habs are so resilient and patient this playoffs. Nothing spectacular, but they are so fully focused on the right things. Even ***** Perry. And Price seems to be priceless.

But it ain't over till the fat lady sings. Couple of crossbars in for Ehlers & Wheeler, and the game could go the other way.

Losing DeMelo shows just how sahllow our D pool is.

Poolman on the 1st pairing?
Forbort a 2LHD?
Jamie Benn or rookie Ville the Kid when DD goes down?
Chevy needs to shore up this D corps for next season and I don't mean Heinola or Stanley.
Make a splash and go for Jones or Hamilton or someone.
Jesus Christ this is two sesaons in a row with AHL playes starting on our D.
Also, it shows what Scheif means to this team. Say what you want about his 200 foot game but the O dried up last playins andit dried uip these playoffs without him.
Without Scheifele, this team has no offensive rudder and will never go far. Ehlers is a great player but he is no Scheif.
How many people think PLD will move into Scheif's spot in the next couple of years now?

I've not given up on Dubois yet, he's only 22 but man he's been disappointing. :(

I think people had just way too high expectations of PLD. The trade was never about to get better player than Laine, but to fix the age old issue about missing 2C. This season has been disappointment for both of said players, though injuries do also play a role about that.

PLD will bounce back next season, but it would be foolish to expect him to be a proper 1C. And with Maurice that doesn't matter as he will play 1 top line system no matter what.

Man this 3-0 Montreal lead shows you how bad the freakin Oilers are  I'd be ****ing my pants right now as an Edmonton fan

I mean... it's not that big of a deal honestly. We all knew we were in no condition to compete for the finals let alone cup this year and expected to be out of the playoffs very soon. We won 4 games which is more than expected in the first place.

Again - oh boy, how bad are the Oilers to have been swept by this team  And I hope the entire Scheifele-Evans accident ends up being the next step in order to major as an upcoming Stanley Cup winning leader and #1 center on the Jets. I think he'll do some much needed soulsearching this off-season and will come back stronger and more determined than ever before. We need to strengthen our D-core and sort out our forwards (we need to get PLD going).
