The man had 10 SOG last night.

He reminds me so much of Hyman, but just better all around offensive tools.
He was robbed by Hill more than once, easily could have had two or three goals last night. Really elevating his game at the end of the ice.

10 goals 15 points +9 32 SOG during this 8 game streak.

He's obviously not going to sustain a 31% shooting percentage, but averaging 4 shots per game is a good way to become a 30-40+ goal scorer.

13 goals 26 points +19 in his last 26 games, with only 2 of those coming on the PP. Over those 26 games, he's
- 7th in ES goals
- 12th in ES points
- 5th in +/-

He's certainly due to cool off a bit, but this is a pretty remarkable stretch for a mid first round pick in his d+3 season. He's likely going to finish with a ~30+30 sophomore season despite minimal PP time.

He's trending very similarly to Parise, and Parise was generating about 1/3 of his points on the PP:

Parise
81gp 14g 32p 11ppp (21 y/o)
82gp 31g 62p 22 ppp (22 y/o)

Mercer
82gp 17g 42p 5ppp (20 y/o)
61gp 21g 44p 6ppp (21 y/o)

They share a lot of characteristics stylistically, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Mercer have a Parise like career.

He's making a very strong for the 2nd best forward from his draft. Stutzle is obviously #1 but I think I'd take him over guys like Raymond, Lundell, Perfetti, Lafreniere, Quinn, and Jarvis.

He really needs to be aggressive and shot a lot like he's doing in this streak. He's got too good of a shot to not avg like 200+ per season. Settling in on the first line sure helps a lot. He, Tatar and Nico are all dogs on bone type of players, such a tough line to play against.

Hope Fitz can convince him to sign long term for like a 6M aav

8x6M would be a sweet deal.

Palat 6M
Mercer 6M
Hischier 7.25M
Hughes 8M
Meier 8.5M
Bratt 8.5M
Hamilton 9M

That'd be $53.25M for our 7 highest paid players and $44.25M for our 6 highest paid forwards.

Marino and Siegs are signed for a combined ~8M for the the next 5-6 years as well, so that would give us ~25M to fill out the rest of the roster. We'll have to be thrifty but it's doable - will probably have to rely on having 2-3 rookie contracts on defense (likely Hughes, Nemec, and maybe Casey).

Would have taken Meier + Karlsson+ 1st + That stupid Shark Head the team skates out of.
I was modest and said 2 weeks ago that in a package involving Mercer the sharks are buying and not selling

I love it how NJ has played Mercer through the ranks and lines, he is so versatile that you can put him in any role... like P.Kane

One of my favourite young players in the league. Not too often a kid comes in and is as complete as Mercer is. I don't think there's one facet of the game he isn't above average at.

You can spot the gamers early, Mercer is the type you win with.
How he made it to 18th is beyond me

He was considered the hardest skater and a swiss army knife on all his teams growing up, including Canada teams

Totally agree. As a fan of a team that was drafting 19th the Devils broke my heart a little bit with that pick. I'm pretty sure the Flames would have taken him.

Course the same thing happened with McMichael, Tomasino, and Sillinger so maybe I should never fixate on one guy anymore.

Big fan of this kid. Reminds me a lot of Zach Parise. Not sure if he will reach the same highs as Parise did but can't complain about his contribution so far for an #18th overall pick.
