Yikes don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Who knows if Hughes can even play PK, because he sure can't defend and who knows if Nemec can even QB a PP.
great thing that Hughes isn't expected to kill penalties and we usually use just one dman in the PP so Hamilton, Luke and Nemec gonna fight each other for that spot... I'd say we'll be alright.

Mercer looking like a serious goal scorer and really unique player. He's fun to watch.

It's embarrassing how the Devils are schooling the Rangers and Islanders in long term franchise building. Well, the whole league ,really. Buffalo, possibly Ducks, CBJ and Detroit doing the same thing too. But as a Ranger fan, kinda of makes me want the entire Rangers management fired and restructured.

Seriously, this Devils team is starting to look scary, from an opposition perspective. Once all the pieces are in place and matured, say in 2-4 years or so, and I am honestly not sure what teams will be competing with them for the top spots in the Metro and East in general. They've laid out an efficient asset management style, chosen the players that will be key to that. Now I don't want to suggest the wouldn't have drafted a winger with one of their top 5 picks in the past decade at some point. They very well might have taken Slafkovsky instead of Nemec in 2022, but at that point, the club had compiled so many key assets, that they could afford to gamble on a winger at that stage. As they were able to do with the Holtz and the 7 pick. But you generally don't see Devils gambling top 5 picks on wingers. Generally, until after they have some high end center and D assets. Same as Montreal have to some extent now that they turned Romanov into Dach, but any way. But they only would have been doing that AFTER taking mostly centers and Dmen in the first rounds. Mercer I believe was drafted as a center, as it often happens that top talent center prospects often end up at the wing anyway. Probably where Chytil should be playing for the Rangers lol. But it's cool, we have another power winger in Brandan Othmann coming up, instead of like Wyatt Johnston or Svechkov or Raty or Stankoven or 10 other centers that are looking like they are developing into top tier NHL center prospects. And hardly a center to speak of. Honestly, it almost doesn't matter how good Othmann ends up at this point, they already failed at that pick just relative to who they should have taken.

Anyway, from a non-Devil fan perspective, the Devils are doing to a terrific job rebuilding, what looks to be a contender for the next decade. They've even sorted their GK, with Schmidt still developing in the wings if something happens to Vit. And as good as Vit has looked, as I think he has the look of at least a long term starting goalie, Akira looking equally as gifted long term if not more.

So I'd say the Devils are in a pretty envious position, throughout the entire league honestly.

Going to be scary seeing Hughes, Nemec, Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Holtz, Mercer or whomever PP1 and PP2,,,,,, However, no idea how the coaches are going to decide game to game how the lines will go. They could probably just select straws and it'd still work out fine.
LOL, go be a Devils fan if you like their team that much. It's evident from your previous posts that you basically always shit on the Rangers.

The Rangers are more than fine for the now and future. Considering how both teams have done since the 04-05 lockout, I don't think most of us are that envious of them, lol.

And this is coming from someone that does agree that the Devils look to have a bright future incoming, sadly.

Good choice of year to begin your comparison.

4 pt night . What a beauty . Is he keeping his spot in the top 6 when Meier arrives ? Hard to demote him with 9 goals in past 7

I imagine that line stays the same and Sharangovich is demoted to the 3rd line. Meier with Bratt and Hughes.
Sounds logical . Just thought since he can play centre that it might be tempting to anchor the 3 rd line .

I could certainly be wrong, but Raymond's on a far worse team with less elite offensive support and I think he's having one of those 'figure it out' sophomore years that people often call the sophomore jinx.

Mercer also has a high IQ.
I like Mercer a lot, but last year I saw hockey sense plays from Raymond that aren't teachable. I think his ceiling's higher. You may well be right that Mercer has been better this year, but I predict Raymond when it's all said and done.

He really pulled ahead of Alex Newhook in the young Newfie race. He's been phenomenal and only 21 years old.
Honestly it tears my heart apart that they are on separate non Canadian/non traditional teams.

I have to follow avs/devs just because of these two fellas, while neither team has any connection to Newfoundland. I talk to my friends back home and neither team in on the radar, the Avs because of timezones, the Devils because they're surrounded by teams that have more relevance.

Granted Mercer is a real Newfie, Newhook doesn't act like he's a Newfie in any shape or form.
You don't dress like Newhook in Newfoundland, it's just so antithetical to the culture.

Haula is at the 3C spot now.. thankfully finally settled in there after spending much of the year with Hughes. No real need at 3C and not sure he can drive his own line yet.

With Timo coming in, I suspect they load up the top 6.. have a weak-ish 3rd line with the leftovers (Haula, Palat, Sharangovich, Boqvist).. and then a 'high-energy' 4th line that has played most of the season together (McLeod, Wood, Bastian).

Other option would be to separate Bratt and Hughes to see if Bratt can drive play on his own line but would take some experimenting and not sure it's worth messing with what's working.

Tatar - Hischier - Mercer
Palat - Hughes - Meier
Sharangovich - Haula - Bratt

3rd line just feels a bit weak there.
