Also side not I did not realize how much quality former NHL,KHL and AHL players are playing in the Swiss league. Look at Winnik’s team for example, definitely a solid place to develop if he stays for another year. [skip]
The Swiss League was one of the best Euro league last season with all those players joining it.

Yeah, it's really weird to constantly hear about Reinbacher's offense limitations.

He had to work his way up into the D pairings, and at some point became the go-to guy in many offensive situations. He was Kloten's main QB on the PP and had many O-zone FO starts.

He also has an amazing shot selection. When he shoots the puck, it almost always either hits the net or ends up on a teammate's blade somehow. I watched him a lot throughout the season since he was one of my favorite prospects and it's one thing that really impressed me.

Kloten would not have used him in this role if his game did not show a proclivity for offense.
I fully agree with the rest of your post but the bolded is curious.

Reinbacher was quarterbacking the 2nd PP unit, not the 1st. If he's on the first unit he probably has at least 10 more points on the season.

Also, where did you get the info re the offensive zone starts? It was Ekestahl-Jonsson and Peltonen getting the offensive zone starts and quality minutes vs easier competition. Kellenberger and Reinbacher got the defensive zone starts and tougher assignments.

I like that he gets the puck to the net despite traffic. Maybe he was a bit unlucky in the goal department.
From what I've seen, luck (or lack thereof) was part of it, and maybe that's just my read on it but it seemed like Kloten was not encouraging the D to shoot much from a distance.

So because of it, he does not strike me as having a "shoot first" mentality. He's quite patient at the blue line and you can tell that he's analyzing the play in real time. However, when he shoots it, it almost always goes through traffic.

I'm not going to argue for all games as I did not watch every single Kloten game, but Reinbacher definitely played PP1 duties towards the end of the season, at least in the games that I watched. I remember being frustrated at Ang whiffing on rebounds.

Could've it been an alternation between games and not a full-time assignment for him and Kellenberger? Is it because they felt the EJ-Peltonen duo went a bit cold? That I don't know. Apparently even his teammate Faille came out on French media to say it.

Also I'm not saying he had all the O-zone starts but he did have a bunch. He pretty much everything on the ice.

Thats a good thing. Hutson and Mailloux are very talented offensively, and having Guhle and Reinbacher will allow them to shine and do their thing.
I have been a fan for almost 70 years and I don't remember a time when we had such a wealth of young defensive talent. Guhle, Reinbacher, Hutson, Mailloux, Xhejak, Barron, etc. all have huge upsides and if they don't play for us they make valuable assets that can be traded for the high skilled forward that so many here moan we lost an opportunity to secure at the 2023 draft.

I heard that this swiss league is a big step ahead of the ahl, anybody know ?

Guy Boucher who coached 3 years in the Swiss league, 1 in the AHL and 6 in the NHL said today that the NL is better than the AHL. (Especially last year, with the bump from 4 foreigns to 6 with the KHL exodus).

One of the point I was using when trying to sell Reinbacher to my friends over Leonard was the fact that we could go see him next year. Just a nice bonus lol. Now I'm not so sure.

I feel like one of the priority for David will be to get stronger and more épais. He could still do that in the A, since they mostly play during the weekends. Also he'll get accustomed to NA hockey, life, etc etc. But if they feel like one more in Europe is best, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I feel like he's going to look real good early in the camp tho, playing against junior players...

I don't think so. Maybe an overlap. I haven't seen all games either but even with Ekestahl-Jonsson out of the lineup, Tomlinson didn't want to mess with his PP unit. Reinbacher stayed with the 2nd unit and Kellenberger took over the top unit.

Also, Ekestahl-Jonsson played hurt for months but when he was in the lineup he was with the 1st PP unit even when he didn't play even strength at all.

Yeah, he said it himself. He's very happy with his offensive game but he knows he needs to hit the gym and work on his game against the puck.

He's gonna want to finish his school so expect him to stay in Switzerland for one more year.

The PP structure did not change from what I have seen, but could it have been an alternation between the D/blue line pairings on the PP? There definitely were moments where he and Kellenberger (#19, right?) were on the ice with the PP1 forwards at the end of the regular season.

I don't speak German, so I don't understand anything from the game feed that I've watched.

I wouldn't say a big step ahead but IMO it's a better league and a small but non-trivial tier above. Less talent than the AHL but Swiss league teams average around 28 years old vs 25 years old in the AHL, and AHL teams are forced to constantly replace important roster veterans with new generic crappy 5th round picks while Swiss teams aren't beholden to the interests of a higher tier league. Swiss league is also stronger in recent years because they've captured a ton of the former KHLers from North American and W. Europe who left Russia after the war, so they're getting a higher tier of imports than usual.

I said this a few days ago in the draft thread but think of it in terms of guys like Hudon, Cracknell, Belzile, etc. who are the types of guys that dominate the AHL and are elite 1st liners in AHL terms. Those guys are "better" pro hockey players than all but the very best prospects simply because they're seasoned pros and have 8+ years of pro physical training. AHL teams have to keep roster spots open for the Jan Mysaks of the world and have to meet the 5 veteran player limit, so they can't really optimize their roster for winning by signing those types of guys freely. That's made worse by the fact that as soon as Laval develops a good player like Ylonen, Barron, or RHP, they lose them to the NHL and have to start over with a new crappy prospect as well (and are forced to play prospects above where they deserve because their boss from the NHL said so).

I'd say AHL playoff rosters are generally stronger than any other league below the SHL because they get those Ylonens and RHPs back and are in winning mode so they can scratch crappy NHL prospects, but throughout the regular season the AHL's ruleset and status as an explicit development league slightly hurts it in terms of actual level of play.

Again, I don't think so. Kellenberger didn't usually play PP. They had just one defender on each unit. Ekestahl Jonsson with the 1st, Reinbacher with the 2nd. That didn't change at all, even if one wasn't available the other stuck with his unit and Kellenberger was filling in instead. Tomlinson didn't want to mess with his units at all.

Kloten was just promoted and a bottom feeder but their PP was consistently good. Finished 4th leaguewide with 24,6%. I didn't see all games either but from what I've seen and heard, Tomlinson had zero desire to change his PP all season long.

Very laudable approach. I don’t think this kid realizes that with the money he’s going to make in the NHL he can buy his degree. Heck, he can buy the school.

Imo its really close.

What Reinbacher has done is fairly impressive.
As I said many times...played the best draft season in Europe in the history of hockey by a defenseman (together with Dahlin). Doesn't mean anything re his future development of course but he's one heck of a player already and I don't see why he should stagnate now.

I must be misremembering Kellenberger playing with Reinbacher on the PP then, or confusing him with someone else.

However, and I'm not trying to argue with you here as you seem to know a bunch about Kloten, but Reinbacher definitely was on the ice on the PP with PP1 forwards. Were they overlaps like you said? Maybe, but if so they happened a lot in the 3 games that I watched in the last month of the season.

Faille also is saying (I went to listen to what he said) that he was pretty much their main guy running the PP at the end, which he wasn't doing earlier on.

It isn’t at all but it’s getting up there relative to other leagues. I’d put it at the same tier as Liiga, maybe better.
I’ve heard it referred to as the 4th best league in the world, assumably behind the NHL, KHL, and AHL. Probably behind Liiga too though.

WTF????????? Management didn't do anything wrong. It's a draft. Fans get excited, we get it, but management can't hold every crazy Habs fan's hand and read them bedtime stories. People who flip out over a hockey draft selection have no one to blame but themselves.
Wow...welcome to the real world. It,s all great and fine to think that humanity doesn't contain humans....But for people who have experienced that world, and has seen Brisebois being booed like he was the worst human being on the planet, or watching Carey Price being booed 'cause he was unable to win all the games 1-0 etc.....as an organization...ANY organization....you need to open the lines of communications with your fans.

ESPECIALLY since the same fans or tons of them haven't seen 1 Cup in 30 years. A team who is supposed to be the greatest franchise in sports history. Or so most kids born after 1993 keep hearing.

The same fanbase who despite being lied to and receiving way more crap than they should, fill that arena and give standing ovations to their team for just trying.

At the very f***ING least, you need to know the room and TEMPER the expectations of people who were mostly behind their losing team because they were expecting to FINALLY get a superstar. I'm not even talking about the idiots who give hate messages to the kid. I'M also talking about the ones like me who wouldn't have picked David 'cause he was 8th on my list....becuase I really thought they were going to go for a forward.

At one point...just answer this....EVERYTHINK Lapointe and Bobrov said about Michkov is something they knew. Since....ever. They NEVER had a chance to watch him play. They knew that. They didn't just realize it when they MET Michkov this week. So....what was that meeting about?

Somehow, it was to show THE FANS that they were doing everything they should as an organizatoin. BUt it never really meant anything. So for people who said that the don't manage for the fans...well I guess a part of them do. They just decided to bet that it was better for the fans to show that the team was letting no stone left unturned...then to already temper the expectations by at the very least letting a few journalists know that we wouldn't pick him.

For all the whining and cussing in here about our pick, I thought the Flyers made a big mistake not taking Leonard. Rookie GM and president going after the sexy pick.
It was a big mistake that they will come to regret. While I am fine with the Reinbacher pick, I would have gone with Leonard. You pass on that level of dynamic skating at your team’s peril. But if were going to pass on Leonard, Reinbacher was the only palatable option. Particularly when taking into account competing positional values.

Again, I don't think so. Tomlinson put Ekestahl-Jonsson on his lineup card even when the Swede was completely unable to play...just so he doesn't have to mess with his PP-units. I didn't see all games but those I didn't I watched highlights or checked stats/boxscore. I don't think you're right but I also can't prove you wrong so it's best we just leave it at it. I agree with the rest of your assessments anyway.

It's pretty simple actually. If the report is true that the management is stunned by the level of idiocy of fans....they were not paying attention. That bunch still is actually unaware of what the market can be. It was totally unpredictable.

In a f***ing era where the idiots on Twitter are specialists of Covid one day, of forest fires, the next day, people thought that this pick would have not welcome stupidities? Geez...

In the end though, it's for EVERY OTHER SANE people to compensate. And show the kid that we support him no matter now that he wears our colors.
