I think Reinbacher is getting way underrated. He produced similar points to Leo Carlsson as a defenseman playing in a comparable league (maybe even a better league), while logging #1 defenseman minutes and playing solid d.

I get that centers tend to go high, but I really think Reinbacher is a similar tier to Carlsson who went #2. Why are all the other teams given a free pass for not drafting Michkov but the Habs made out like they were the only ones who passed on him? I definitely prefer Reinbacher to Will Smith - the Sharks took Smith over Michkov and that's seen as a non-story for some strange reason.

Reinbacher may have the highest floor in the draft, and his ceiling is certainly interesting for sure.

He’s a far safer pick than Smith, without a doubt.

We need new a lot of things.

Bring Patrick Roy as GM. He will tell it like it is.

Meanwhile, Colorado fans were so elated when he was fired they were celebrating. Roy hasn't even been considered for another job in the NHL at either the coaching or GM level. This despite him having friends in high places with spots available, i.e. New York and Chris Drury.

But sure, let's fire our GM of two years for a guy with minimal experience and a poor reputation because he didn't pick a kid some of the fanbase has convinced themselves is the next Ovechkin despite him never playing a single NHL game.

I get it. We didn't pick the sexy option. I'm all for people being disappointed. But seriously. Some of y'all are acting like we passed on Crosby or McDavid.

I think you meant to say high floor. ;)

I have heard a lot of hockey analysts over the last few days say that they keep hearing that Reinbacher is an extremely fast learner. There's a huge correlation between ability to learn quickly and a player's development and ability to adjust at higher levels.

pretty simple, consensus 1-4 went 1-4. Montreal picked the 8 guy at 5.

So here it is, they're trying to sell him as prospect with lots of raw potential..... in other words, project. Hughe seemed to have doubts he could play in the NHL right away, most likely the AHL... Reinbacher said he was ready to play in the NHL this year..... OOOOOOFFFFFFFF

Im just trying to think what type of Defender can he become that would be worth more than a Michkov? Because I don't see a Norris caliber in this player

He's excited to meet Hutson. His eyes kinda light up and smiled when he said Hutson's name.

Same, David

I think Hughes said he wasn’t projecting him on the PP.

So since you think current pts in the NHL are important.

Can you tell me how many Reinbacher has? How many he will have next year? That’s right 0 too.

What is your point? Or are you just trowing shit at the fan?
I’m not the guy with 1000 doomsday posts using future stats so we all join you in your incessant despair. . You are 100% correct Reinbacher has not touched nhl ice either. Can’t wait to see what he has.

The weakest and dimmest argument presented in this and other threads is that "next year's draft will have a lot of dmen"

It’s a really weak argument.

Defensemen take longer to hit their prime and make an impact, it made a lot of sense to add someone like Reinbacher to the fold now. Waiting another 1-3 years could hold this core back.

It wasn’t the sexy pick most of us wanted, but it was a smart pick.

He doesn't want to play in the NHL right away. He want to finish school and keep working. He's most likely going back another year in switzerland.

Like if this dude was Finnish instead and had 22P in Finland would the reaction be different? I have to assume so at this point. I think ppl just have this idea that the Swiss league is on par with the DEL or something.
You're right about this one : the Swiss League is on par with all others. and Habs should hire more scouts covering this league.

Then why didn't we do that last year with better defensemen available (and worse forwards to choose from)?

That's the weak argument.

Their priorities were made clear. They value size above all else at the top end of the draft.

Maybe his red flags are really obvious to the professionals that have watched him play since he was a kid, have reliable intel from his club, and have had the opportunity to do an in-person interview with him? Seems possible.
What about the professionals who watched Michkov play on behalf of the Flyers?

Apparently they saw something completely different than the Habs.

If there were so many red flags or they were so obvious, how did the Flyers not act on them? How does a selection so close to the Habs’ 5th, cause a state of complete elation? Could it be that the Flyers know something that we don’t?

What if the Flyers were impressed when they spent time with him and his family (which despite our vast resources, we didn’t do). Could that not be possible too? Is that not a more hands-on due diligence act?

Organizations that surround themselves with yes-men are doomed to fail and that’s in any arena. If I were Habs management, I would not be using that argument as evidence of strong decision-making. They need different POVs around the table and based on how they all reacted on that critical decision that was this unique opportunity in a rare, quality forward draft, it does not bode well.

so much crying in this thread,,

michkov isnt coming to the NHL maybe ever and we just drafted our future Chris Pronger

everbody BREATHE
I don't mind the pick that much, would have prefer Michkov too, but he will be a good D. That being said, he's not and don't play like Pronger lmfao.

Even without those 8 points, he's close in ppg to other Russian greats like Ovy, at 18 in the KHL. To be fair, you'd have to also look back on how many points Ovy got against the worst teams and Michkov would end up on top.

He's close to PPG in junior tournaments! PPG in junior is nothing for such high picks. He scored 20 points in 30 pro games this year, if you take out 8, it makes 12. It's nowhere near PPG. Now we need to find similar undersized russians who scored at that rate and compare.

i dont understand how people can want a kid that doesnt even want to play in north america over a kid with a good head on his shoulders that can keep a full time job as a head hunter while being a top NHL prospect
