I those 5-6 teams that call some actually wanted to trade up for Reinbacher and not Michkov

BPA is the best player rank on your list, Reinbacher was probably the higher rank player available on Habs list
Well yes, Reinbacher was obviously the Habs BPA otherwise they wouldn’t have picked him. While there may have been a team that wanted to move up for Reinbacher, I suspect most of them were eyeing Michkov.

No one is saying that Michkov won’t be a 1st liner.

However, notice how many are being a lot more careful with Reinbacher by calling him a top 4 rather than a no. 1 D or a top pairing D.

When they’re not Russian in this day and age and not wingers because a couple of those teams wanted a C then yes.

Honestly this argument is so boring. You won’t back down, those that believe in michkov won’t either. The only real answer to all this is time. I’ll be sure to apologize if he busts. Hope you and others will be the first to put their hands up when he comes over and dominates too.
Michkov was my pick at 5, I never claimed he doesn't have talent or potential. But this generational crap, he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, obvious can't miss superstar, etc... bullshit needs to stop. NONE OF US KNOWS JACK SHIT. The guy dropped and obviously teams had no issues picking Russians, so it had nothing to do with that.

If it was so simple to be an NHL scout that all you needed to do was go on twitter and watch youtube videos then it wouldn't even be a real profession. You could get some interns to do it for free.

Lol of course teams had issues picking Russians that high. Only team that clearly didn’t was Arizona and they were hell bent on drafting a defensemen at the 6th spot. Yelling in capital letters does nothing to persuade me by the way.

Of course no one knows shit, including nhl scouts. I’m willing to bet Michkov will be a star in the NHL though. I’d put plenty of money on it if it was available as a bet.

Oh wow he actually said he thinks he’s more of a D2? Interesting. So even Hughes agrees with what some of us assessed as his likely ceiling.

It’s a shame one of the 4 didn’t fall. Would have preferred Michkov obviously but they would have been better than Reinbacher. I found this tweet interesting too. Hughes didn’t mention Slaf as one of the players that have more to give.

Drafting "the player who they think will help the team the most in the future" is basically on the side of drafting for need compared to BPA.

I have no idea how this pick will turn out compared to the other options at 5, but, like many others, I believe a team should always go BPA at the top of the draft.

The only qualifier is if Hughes legitimately thinks that Reinbacher was at least comparable to any of the other candidates at 5 (such as Leonard), and "helping the team the most" was the tie-breaker. (Hughes said something to that effect a couple weeks ago.) I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I also gave the previous management that benefit when they were so desperate to get a #1 centre and picked Kotkaniemi. At least in this case, I have far more confidence in Hughes that they will do a better job at getting Reinbacher to reach his potential with the team, which seems to be a 2D from what I am hearing from the pundits on TV.

Four Russians were taken in the 1st round. True two of them were Arizona but even when asked, teams said the geopolitical situation didn't play a factor. It ultimately came down to "we never saw him play" which is kind of valid, don't you think?

IMO, it sounds the opposite because it mentions helping the team the most in the FUTURE, not according to current needs. The same way that saying Slafkovsky will be the best player 5 years from now, when selecting him, is about choosing the BPA. Choosing on need is an expression linked to CURRENT need, because, in 5-7 years, everything might have become a need again, when, now, it isn't.

I was under the weather when they drafted him, but I'm good now. He might not have Seider's wingspan, that's the only thing that bothers me, I mean another top dman, Hedman, is 6'7, and Seider is 6'4, hence they have a longer reach; but he might make it into an advantage, being more compact, and it's not like 6'2 is small, and he might grow. Other than that we landed the best dman of the draft; meanwhile, Michkov might just end up as another small skilled guy. I managed to get the thought of Michkov's stardom out of my head by meditating about Zadina and how I perceived him in 2018. I'm thrilled about Reinbacher now, a huge addition to our defense. "David" will make the Habs a tougher opponent to play against, Michkov would have made the Habs even softer than they already are.

I think they're trying to build a collective instead of a bunch of individuals. Another reason I'm assuming they didn't want PLD. Habs have a fully complete D core now for the next decade plus. I think they'll make a push for Sorokin, etc in 2024 FA. Not the team we as a fanbase initially wanted but they're looking to build an equally effective defensively staunch team

Exactly. If they didn't want Dubois it's because they didn't believe he is a winner/team player. Thanks to MB they didn't have the pieces to interest the Jets anyway (especially if Anderson could nix a trade there). Unfortunately most of the players HuGo would like to move are overpaid so no one will want them. Players like hayes making far more than he is worth you have to pay to get rid of.

3 more years before I can make snide, mocking comments whenever mr generational has a bad stretch of games?

Josi scored 90+ points in the NHL, That Josi? Can people point me in the direction of which games he showed this immense offensive potential? I must have missed it. Honest request. I'd love to get a bit more excited about this pick.

Great, if Michkov is a PPG player and Reinbacher is anything less than a #1D, we know that we need to fire the whole scouting staff, Kojak and the other guy named Gorton...

Michkov scored 8 points in 2 games vs. the worst team in the KHL, if you take away those loser points, his production isn't as impressive, almost the same as the russian Dman selected just before him. Zadina's highlights in 2018 were just as good as Michkov's if you think about it. I expect Reinbacher to be the #2 Dman and Hudson #1 but really what does that mean if they play a different role which is as important as the other? I think we'll have a good first pairing!
