I've heard the 2024 draft is better; at some point you have to factor hype! It's like an echo chamber, I strongly suggest you look into it because you seem like a young man and it might save you tons of problems if you figure it out that soon.
not sure of this last part though?

Just reading the Hughes transcript after the Reinbacher selection, and his assessment isn’t far off base. Said he doesn’t think Reinbacher will ever run a PP1 and probably is more of a D2 than D1. I think that is a fair assessment and kinda tells me they didn’t really love anyone available. Probably was desperately hoping one of those top 4 guys would fall.
Smith was at the top of Hughes' list. Once gone, he went for his #2.

Price was practicing to say Will Smith a million times before the pick which is why he butchered it. Anyways, I'm not expecting him to be a star PP1 QB, we already got others for that in Hutson and Mailloux. I just want him to be a pain in the ass to play against for 25-30 min and provide elite transition. You might say that "well why draft him at 5 if he's not going to be our #1 all around dman" but besides Michkov no other forward available was gonna run our 1st PP either.

I'm just saying you shouldn't buy the hype, not just on HF but also in life, but maybe I'm overstepping and if it's the case I'm sorry. Just look at HF's posters opinions, just look how they age, and it will give you an approximation of how real life opinions age like milk. All of those opinions are not based on thourough obvervations but rather are the product of an echo chamber. We say the 2023 draft is the best but what is the science behind it; really?!?

Yes correct. Are you saying ALL THOSE GUYS are also OBVIOUS GENERATIONAL TALENTS?

How many generational talents do we have in this draft? 5? More? What was in the water 19 years ago?
Only Bedard should have this label. Period.

Expecting a mix between Seider-Klingberg.

I've heard it before. Not saying it's not true this time but we have heard this before over and over again. Remember, it's an evaluation on kids from age 14/15 to 17/18 and trying to project that forward when most of the development gains are from 18+ in terms of being Pro quality. Even the top scouts have less accuracy rates than the weather man.

Not trying to be negative. Just trying to be neutral and with fair expectations. From 50+, it's probably anybody's guess.
Nobody is less accurate than weathermen. Well ... maybe Bergevin.

Are you REALLY going there?

If you like the word franchise player better, use it.

I am not the one who called him generational talent first but to me it is pretty equivalent to franchise. Multiple annalistes kept saying he was generational. Everyone also talked about a top 5. Are you saying there wasn’t a top 5?

The difference in talent between Fantilli and Michkov isn’t that big. That was the point. We understand that, don’t we?

Mais si tu veux t’enfarger dans la ligne bleue, be free to do that as you wish.

Who knows, Michkov might be a mix of Yakupov and Semin. Let's see in 3 years.

I want a superstar too and was mad that we didn't gamble on this but this morning I'm fine with the pick if he became a solid Top 2 D.

Still can’t believe we prefered him than the combination of Askarov + 15th pick.

My god the stupidness
Was Askarov offred to Habs ? How do you know about that ?

Michkov was indeed a huge gamble for lots of reasons. They went the safe way.

You referred to Michkov as an obvious generational talent. Your words.

If that was the case, he should have gone 2nd overall. Or 3rd, or 4th, or 5th, or 6th. But he didn't.

So either all those teams f***ed up, or they are all generational talents, or a mix of both.

Maybe, just maybe, Michkov is not as good as you were told. At least 6 teams didn't think he was worth taking.

Sakic wouldn't even trade him for Lekhonen! Newhook's shooting reminds me of Michkov's. They say we lost an ionian sea ancient greek pound frog and the best goalie of the draft; but goalies are so hard to project, how can you say he's the best of his draft already? And Ethan Gauthier looks like a good character guy, but will he ever make a top 6?

He is not at all done physically maturing, this guy is on a steep upward trajectory and has a lot of room to grow physically.

You can tell just by his face that he’s got more physical maturity left in him.

He may not grow much taller but he’s going to be a pretty strong guy by his mid-20s.

The more I reflect on the pick, even though I do believe Michkov will be a star player, Hughes made an astute decision that should benefit this hockey club for a long time. We were need of an all-situation RD to either create a world-beater first pairing with Guhle or as a steady/competent wing man for Hutson. David Reinbacher is that in spades. Defense wins championships, and takes longer to develop.

Hughes believes in the young forward core we have, and if he’s right, our forwards should be enough to backstop a defensive powerhouse to a championship.

Oh wow he actually said he thinks he’s more of a D2? Interesting. So even Hughes agrees with what some of us assessed as his likely ceiling.

It’s a shame one of the 4 didn’t fall. Would have preferred Michkov obviously but they would have been better than Reinbacher. I found this tweet interesting too. Hughes didn’t mention Slaf as one of the players that have more to give.

I dunno how Hutson's defensive (or lack of) gonna translate at NHL level. His size too.

The top 4 are excused because they drafted high potential guys. That was the point.

The other two don’t have excuses. So again, the Habs feel comfort in comparing themselves to ARZ. Bravo.

I get the feeling that Hughes had offers for #5 that didnt happen because the player wanted was no longer available. I think it was Lebrun that reported there was an offer of Askarov, 15 and 24 that never happened.

High potential guys are better than what you referred to as an OBVIOUS generational talent?

When they’re not Russian in this day and age and not wingers because a couple of those teams wanted a C then yes.

Honestly this argument is so boring. You won’t back down, those that believe in michkov won’t either. The only real answer to all this is time. I’ll be sure to apologize if he busts. Hope you and others will be the first to put their hands up when he comes over and dominates too.

It looks like "langue de bois". If Michkov became a superstar, he obviously would help his team more than a defenseman. I just think Hughes is trying to "not saying anything", which is the definition of langue de bois, he just talks but really he doesn't tell you what he really thinks.
