So he should have picked Leonard then.
Mmm… not sure about that. Leonard was on with highly skilled forwards and benefited from that. He created space for them but it’s entirely possible that his numbers are inflated from what they would be.

Even if that’s not the case though, it’s a much closer argument to make the case of taking a projected number one D vs power forward rather than potential generational scorer.

Could be a future pairing for years and years, at least we're hoping
Tho im still dying to see Barron with Guhle again, just to see if sparks fly
But nice to have options too
Yeah, I would hope each Guhle and Reinbacher anchor a pair, and thus one or the other is on the ice for about 50 minutes per game. Except in certain key situations, they could play together.

The back end is getting crowded:

Matheson Reinbacher
Guhle Mailloux
Xhekaj Hutson/Barron
Harris Engstrom
Kovacevic

We don't need 10 dmen that are this good. But we did need a dman like Reinbacher has the potential to be back there.

Not dismissing your points but when Suzuki was asked about the biggest challenge playing in MTL (this year) he said social media and that’s on (a part of) the fanbase.

He's probably referring to Twitter, where players can receive a ton of hate and people can harass and wish them bad things.

Here, we only talk about the hockey side and we give our opinion, we vent on things we don't like. I doubt they even know that we exist.

Been reading up on this pick and not sure what to think. I don't think I would have taken him 5th overall and as many have mentioned it makes an already crowded backend even more so. The team has what now 6 potential NHL ready or close to ready dmen aged 23 or under? I guess they can take their time and maybe get him over to North America to start.

Agreed, HF isn’t the issue but Twitter/FB/Insta (what young people use) can be toxic

Habs are probably hoping he brings physicality, an elite defensive game, and making transitions more than anything. Hutson/Mailloux/Barron will be the PP guys while Guhle/Reinbacher/Xhekaj will be the pain in the ass for the other team.

Reinbacher can also be a PP guy. He was running the PP for Kloten at 18-years old.

Maybe he wanted to go to Philly because they showed so much interest in him?

I'm not buying he blindly wanted to go to Philly so bad.

- San Jose prefered Will Smith
- Montreal prefered Reinbacher (erroneously)
- Phoenix wanted a dman.
He probably knew he was going to be five or later. So it’s Arizona (no thanks) Montreal or Philly.

He knows he can make way more cash there… maybe that’s why he pushed for it.

Friedman isn’t a Hab stooge - he relayed the feeling on the floor. Wyahunski said the same thing. The feeling was that Mich wanted Philly.

I know but on the floor was after the meetings. And Philly said they met with him many times. Maybe all the love they poured on him pre draft made him want to go to Philly on draft day.

Apparently Michkov is now saying he wants to start in the NHL as soon as possible and will do what he can to get out of his contract.

Will he play in Laval or go back to Switzerland ? We have some information about that ?
He's coming to camp. Do you think any decisions will be made before the fact? He Talked about going to back to school but Montreal may have other plans.
We also learned he's a headhunter so hopefully we can teach him to stay out of the box. :sarcasm:

I feel like Mailloux may get traded for help elsewhere in the lineup.

Yes, "IF".

Are you 100% certain? So why burn down every cities in rage like a Targaryen on a dragon? Today, on June 29th 2023, YOU DON'T KNOW THAT.
If you are a professional, you are paid to get talent. If a player, that everyone sees a generational, is passed over because you didn’t evaluate him correctly, you suck and should be fired.
