Was listening to Friedman on the NHL network and then Whyshinski on TSN 690… Mich met with Philly on multiple occasions. The sense on the draft floor was that’s where he wanted to go. If true, it helps to explain a lot in terms of why there was so much secrecy around him.

The question becomes: do you draft a player you know doesn’t really want to play for you? Especially when there are the Russian complications. That’s very likely the issue Hughes was facing.

Maybe he wanted to go to Philly because they showed so much interest in him?

I'm not buying he blindly wanted to go to Philly so bad.

- San Jose prefered Will Smith
- Montreal prefered Reinbacher (erroneously)
- Phoenix wanted a dman.

Are you paid by the team to defend them like you have been doing?

Seriously, if Michkov comes over and burns the league the whole team of management should be fired.

I'm trying to bring some nuance into the discussion from actual execs and scouts.. not the guys on Twitter who nearly drank cyanide because Benson didn't go at 5.

So he should have picked Leonard then.
I don't agree here. I don't like Hughes answer that we are doing fine internally for forwards but Reinbachers potential to be a #1 d is a lot more likely than Leonard is anything but a second liner. I don't think a winger was ever in consideration for our pick unless the staff believed they were an elite talent: obviously they didn't like something about Michkov.

I do semi agree that forward wise we are fine. We have a lot of prospects pushing the door in the next few years and what we're lacking is elite talent, not second liners. If they felt there were none left after picks 1-4 I agree that a potential number 1 d was a bigger priority than more Dach-caliber or less forwards.

Yes, "IF".

Are you 100% certain? So why burn down every cities in rage like a Targaryen on a dragon? Today, on June 29th 2023, YOU DON'T KNOW THAT.

Feeling a little sorry for you guys. Michkov and the mecca of hockey would be the ideal combination. That was my preferred destination for him. But living in Zuerich I saw Reinbacher several times play and heard many good things about him. Its not only that he played like a veteran for one of the weakest teams in the league, he is a super humble guy and a workhorse too (on and off the ice). I couldn't name a specific strength. But no weakness either. Which I think is impressive for his age and the role he played for Kloten.

He quarterbacked the 2nd PP and did this job quite well too. Both shooting and passing/possession play. Ekestahl-Jonsson had far more points/assists on the PP as the #1 D, Reinbacher only 4 (1+3). BUT, Kloten, like almost every swiss team, played all of their star exports together on the first PP unit. Reinbacher had to play more with the second, more or less 2nd swiss league level player, PP unit. So I believe he still has a lot hidden potential in terms of points output. And I believe he is going to work his as off that never again someone don’t remember his name. So you maybe have a future #1 D and an absolute leader. I hope for you he will be as of a "steal" for you then he was for me in my swiss hockey manager game.

feel like russians have always loved and been loved in Montreal also so sucks to lose out on Michkov but hoping for the best with Reinbacher

Could be a future pairing for years and years, at least we're hoping
Tho im still dying to see Barron with Guhle again, just to see if sparks fly
But nice to have options too

You are being stubborn and totally disregarding Reinbacher's talent and projections.

Take a step back and a deep breath. Just because YOU didn't get your pick it doesn't mean Habs picked the wrong player.

Yes I'm aware of that. I just added that part in for effect.

I am open to seeing if Reinbacher turns out to be the better player. We'll see in time. Nothing has been determined yet...

From The Athletic:

Montreal native and hockey data expert Thibaud Chatel works extensively with teams in Switzerland tracking data and providing detailed analytics to his clients and subscribers. His service, NL Ice Data, tracked 22 of Reinbacher’s games with Kloten, and came to the following conclusion.

“To get deeper, we also have a prospects model, which looks at every player from 16 to 22 and projects their potential career (until) they reach 30 years old. On this one, Reinbacher was simply the second-best player in the draft behind (Connor) Bedard, with a 52 percent chance of being an ‘Elite’ (top 10 percent) player in the league on average during the next decade.”
LOL He's only got three years to get there max because Matvei Michkov is stepping into the league as the second coming of Christ.
Or maybe third after McJesus. :help:

One thing that’s true between the old regime and the new one - on average, both have way more success drafting and developing good defenceman than any other position.
