not according to advanced stats, he’s the best dman since Dahlin.

He has close to no weakness in his game and is barely a year away from making the team.

I think people don’t understand that the Swiss league is not a development league and is as good as the liiga and close to the sel.
If you are not good enough you won’t be playing top minutes just so they can develop you.

Putting 22 points in 44 games on the top pair in a professional men league is far more impressive than being ppg in the CHL.

Michkov was my preferred pick as well but Reinbacher is far from a dime a dozen player.

Liiga is a better league but the gap is not huge. Regardless, Reinbacher obviously is a good prospect but nobody really knows very much and next year will be more indicative of his potential.

I was and I think every pissed off Hab fan was hoping that we would finally pick a player with game breaking talent up front but as always we pick for need and not BPA at all Hughes even admitted to it. What a shit thing to do to the fan base is to lie right to our faces about picking the BPA and then all of a sudden not do it.

What Americans are doing great, hiring the right people for the job. Why Habs did not hire Daniel Briere as GM?

In 2 months since being hired, Daniel Briere has:

— Traded Provorov for 1st, 2 2nds, and a prospect
— Got out of Kevin Hayes Contract
— Put everyone on the team on the market
— Got a generational talent at 7th overall

Habs have no talent on their team for decades. And just walked away from the generational talent. Who will be in 120-150 points range for a season. Will easy outproduce Bedard. Mind boggling!

Got out of Hayes' contract? They're retaining 50% of his salary for 3 years and all he got was a 6th round pick for him. You call that a good move?

Also putting everyone on the market is not some genius move.

I mean, I didn't call Hughes an idiot last year when he picked Slaf, even though I wanted Wright. I was even ready to forgive him, if down the road he made the wrong choice. Because it was a tough choice for real. Wright had a pretty bad season.

But tonight? If they chose wrong, this is unforgivable. They don't have a mulligan on that one.
Not sure I agree. Since consciously passing on Michkov due to perceived risk was done by 4 other teams as well, it isn't unforgiveable to me.

It would be a 'miss' if Leonard or Dvorsky or Benson or Axel-Rose or someone else badly eclipses Reinbacher, but none of those guys was the consensus can't miss guy we obviously should have picked if Michkov was too risky.

So maybe the umforgiveable move would be defying the consensus and betting on the small winger without elite skating who signed a long-term deal in Russia and who apparently whines to refs a lot, and he turns out to be not impactful in the NHL at all. And I say this as someone who would have accepted Hughes taking this risk, telling myself I trust he knows what he's doing!

All this to say it's not so easy to judge right now what is unforgiveable.

- Hughes has acquired 1st round picks in 2 separate trades as well as prospects
- Hughes got out of the Shea Weber contract
- Putting everyone on the market is not an accomplishment
- I guess the Ducks, Blue Jackets, Sharks and Coyotes didn't get that memo either.

Good points, the mindless witch hunt on Hughes has begun.

And great avatar......Curtis is so underappreciated.

I'm not going to argue with Michkov's odds of becoming an Ovechkin, but Tarasenko is/was a superstar, and thats probably Michkov's floor. In a redraft he goes 3rd after Hall and Seguin.

Carlsson, Smith and Fantilli being selected ahead of him does not mean Michkov isn't considered a possible generational player.

Tarasenko scored above 80 points once. Tarasenko was a star, he wasn't a superstar and do we really think Suzuki/Caufield can't get to a similar career high as Tarasenko?

And if a team in the top 6 drafts Simashev, a Russian, why would any of those teams drafting 2 or later not take a generational or possible generational player?

Like I said, we have to reconcile that maybe Michkov isn't seen as a generational prospect or player. Projections change as players develop. There's countless examples of that being the case. Shane Wright literally happened last year.

Craig is right on the money with his take on the Reinman. If Hutson can keep doing his thing for the next couple of years, those two would be a great pairing. The backend will look great if things continue to progress as it currently is.

Guhle - Mailloux
Hutson - Reinbacher
Xhekay - ??????

For the ??? part, there are some young options for there, like Barron, Harris or Engstrom.

I love how people justifying this pick are making D pairings and have him on the 2nd pairing so basically the habs used a 5th overall for a 2nd pairing Dman great.....

Reinbacher text book reason why this organization hasn't been able to win 30 years. Why Chicago and Kings won 3 cups each recently. Bebard...Dubois, notice the difference? Need the stars to win a cup

Oh yeah lol though don't get me wrong, if he got this wrong (and last year's #1 wrong) then all of this while premature, will be justified.

But I've never been a big fan of complaining just to complain. If this pick doesn't work out, there will be a time for me to express my frustration, right after the kid was picked, is not that time though.
