I don't hate Reinbacher, I think he'll be a good one. But there was a possible generational forward available, and those are hard to come by. I feel there's a Reinbacher every year between 8-15th picks overall. And next year has been said to be stacked with d prospects.

Just thought I'd stop by and give my thoughts.

Was not thrilled that we took Reinbacher over some of the other players available, especially considering how much this was an offense-heavy draft. That said, I have known for a while he was a great prospect and cannot say I am disappointed. My sights were set on forwards, but Reinbacher is a truly quality prospect so I can get on board despite feeling slightly disappionted this morning.

Really rooting for this kid. He had a great season last year. If all goes perfectly, we just witnessed the Habs drafting their future #1D.

One thing that people need to try to reconcile a bit here is that the generational forward label attached to Michkov may not have persisted since his 16 year old season, the same way it did not persist for Shane Wright in his draft year.

Either 6 teams thought they were picking generational talents, or nobody actually felt he was a generational forward any longer. There were more than enough quotables from scouts who felt he was more Tarasenko than Ovechkin.. I don't think anyone thinks Tarasenko is generational.

Is it too late to trade the #5 for Keller? They have gone for need over BPA. Reinbacher is not a bad pick. He is kinda like Guhle. But Michkov is the superior player... why habs why....

I don't dislike the player but just the way things were being talked about it feels like we could have missed big on some other massive talents in the top ten. We just won't know any time soon unfortunately. The honeymoon phase for Hughes and Gorton is over though I can tell you that much
Agreed I don’t mind the player, we need a right shot D. But players with his timeline on the right side would have been available next draft and it’s a defenseman heavy draft class. This was the year to draft top offense.

I hope Calgary comes last next season and we have no choice but to pick consensus. I don’t see any other way for this organization to draft offensive talent.

Not the player I would have wanted them to select.

But I can seperate that from this process since the team isn't responsible for pleasing my desires.

He's a Hab now, so i'm on board!

P.S. I know twitter is not the full representation of Habs fans but we really need to be better as a fanbase.

I'm not going to argue with Michkov's odds of becoming an Ovechkin, but Tarasenko is/was a superstar, and thats probably Michkov's floor. In a redraft he goes 3rd after Hall and Seguin.

Carlsson, Smith and Fantilli being selected ahead of him does not mean Michkov isn't considered a possible generational player.

and they’ve been a model of success ever since
If I could advice the leafs what they have to do to win a Cup, having a D like Josi or Doughty would help, better 3rd and 4th line more balanced and 2 other type of players I will not name because I don't want them to win. Just to remember we had Courtnall, Damphousse and Leeman in habs jersey after they were leafs jersey. Tells you how toxic that team was back then. What was the motivation behind that management. Habs had Courtnall for Kordic, just one example.

I was hoping for Michkov, but I am not mad at this pick at all.

The pick reminds me of my favorite NFL team taking an O-Lineman in an NFL, when I was hoping for a skilled position like a WR. Taking the skilled guy is the more fun pick, however you learn to appreciate the pick a lot more in the future when you see the less sexy pick doing a lot of little things and dirty work to help win games.

Michkov could end up being a 40, even 50+ goal scorer, however come playoff time having your two biggest scoring threats being 5'7'" and 5'10" isn't the greatest recipe for success as history has shown. Adding Reinbacher to a D group with guys like Guhle, Maillioux, Barron, Hutson, Xhekaj etc. can give us a very mobile D that is also hard to play against, not to mention they have the ability to help chip in some offense as well which is something we've lacked since Markov/Subban left.

Keller I would have done, but Arzona probably wants more.

PLD no way.

The problem with Michkov is that there are clearly question marks surrounding him for even a team that is ok with drafting Russians to pass on hiim in favour of a defenceman.

If after the interview, after a lot of discussion, the club projects the chance of something going wrong with Michkov is for example 30%, then K totally get taking another polayer they liked a lot rather than run the risk of literally getting nothing.

Also, Michkov does not appear to be an elite skater, unlike a Patrick Kane, and considerably lighter than Kane at the same age. Even with good sniping and offensive skills, he might project as just DeBrincat-plus, or Caufield, who is shorter but heavier and has as amazing compete level.

For now, I have come around to accepting this is who we drafted, and that there are reasons for the pick that make some sense. Of course it is subjective and Ryan Leonar for example might be a glue forward that gets us over the top one day, but I'm ok with drafting a guy who they think is now our very best RD prospect and has size and skating ability. He may well be a RH version of Guhle with a better shot and speed.

That would be pretty impressive given that Guhle might be the fastest straight-line skater on the team.

Great picture. Those two will be pillars for us for the next decade
I like the shape of eyes and the eyesbrows together. He have the eyes of some dogs like a cocker or a bouvier. And I can say he have the eyes of Michalegelo or DaVinci paintings. Really italian Renaissance eyes.

not according to advanced stats, he’s the best dman since Dahlin.

He has close to no weakness in his game and is barely a year away from making the team.

I think people don’t understand that the Swiss league is not a development league and is as good as the liiga and close to the sel.
If you are not good enough you won’t be playing top minutes just so they can develop you.

Putting 22 points in 44 games on the top pair in a professional men league is far more impressive than being ppg in the CHL.

Michkov was my preferred pick as well but Reinbacher is far from a dime a dozen player.

Craig is right on the money with his take on the Reinman. If Hutson can keep doing his thing for the next couple of years, those two would be a great pairing. The backend will look great if things continue to progress as it currently is.

Guhle - Mailloux
Hutson - Reinbacher
Xhekay - Barron

We really don't need offensive like the Leafs or Oilers. Nice to have but having a strong D core is ideal.

I think the key here is how good Dach, Slaf, Roy, Beck end up being. If they all reach their ceiling level, they fit well with Suzuki/Caufield.

Plus we will be still in rebuild/transition for the next 3 years ish. Are we going to have to get lucky like the Lightning and Bruins in getting guys like Pasta and Point later in the draft? Perhaps.
