Eric Faille, who plays with him, had some good comments on RDS.ca. He couldn’t believe the comments he was reading and hearing from Habs fans.

He’s adamant that this kid is for real and will be as good as Josi was. « The kid was 18 and was our PP QB. At 18! He did everything while playing in a pro league. He a complete defenseman. He will make you eat your words. » He was especially talking to Martin Lemay, who had previously said that if Reinbacher becomes as good as Josi, he’ll eat the piece of paper he was writing on.

1) Of course a teammate will have high praise for his talented teammate.
2) Very few people think Reinbacher is bad.
3) Josi is a massive overachiever who was picked 38th overall, not a Top 5 pick.
4) Even if he becomes as good as Josi, Michkov has a serious chance to be even better than that.

he was popular in the draft thread too before the season ending when it was close to only poster who watch a lot of games

Like I said earlier most poster who complain hard about that pick are poster I never saw on the draft thread during the year and I’m pretty sure most haven’t watch a single game or him
I’m one of them. And from David’s video montage and the clips I saw on YT, just briefly, I can see the wow.

f*** off with these picks for need. Why not BPA? Shouldn’t it be simple? Did we really take him 5th because he’s a RD?

NHL scouts love drafting for need. That’s what they do. We’ve been doing it for like ever.

Just tonight 8 D went and 3 in the top 11. Ludicrous. Simashev? Wallinder?

The answer is there; they draft by need.

The Canadiens' recent success in the playoffs (2020 bubble playoffs & 2021 Final run) were with big and mean D like Weber, Chiarot, Edmundson (2021) & Petry.

The Canadiens are building something like that, except the big punishing D they're assembling now have more skill than the previous quartet. And then you add smaller statured Hutson, who broke records in the NCAA in his freshman year.
Most of them won't remember the Big Three. We don't have that but no one would in a capped league.

I hope i'm wrong, we will see, he looks fragile too, hope he won't be injury prone.
He seems pretty solid to me, and while he's not nasty he is physical.

If there's any concern it's that he's an early bloomer and doesn't have another gear especially offensively at the next level, but he's a pretty complete prospect.

True number 4. On the other hand, a star RHD CAN bring you close to the cup too.

I wanted the munchkin. But I’ll look at this one this summer.

He lacks the tools to ever be a big time producer like a Seider or Heiskanen whos names have been thrown around a bit.

His value comes with how high his floor is and how advanced he is, not because of his ceiling.
That is not true at all.

He is in a rapid uptrending developement curve. His ceiling is as high/equivalent in value as any forward in this draft after the franchise C.

He has 1RD ceiling and thats as rare as a 1C.

I'm willing to concede that a defenseman can have more proportional impact on a team than a forward, for the simple reason they play more icetime and have more control over the entire flow of the game.

But this new tradition of Montreal never having an exciting impact forward superstar is getting old fast. We had Kovalev who did it for ~2 years in 2008 and 2009, and that's it. When we were winning cups, we had a great defense and goaltending, but we also had star forwards.

HfHabs: We NEED an elite forward, draft Michkov!
HuGo: We need a RHD, we're gonna take a Reinbacher
HfHabs: Drafting for need?!?!? Wtf!!

And inb4 people say 'yes but michkov was the BPA', sure he was, on bobs list, but obviously not the habs. Or coyotes for that matter.

How do you equal going D with needs? Have you looked at every team and their respective pool? They were all missing left D's?

We went for a RIGHT D. Not even a D. But a RIGHT one.

We took that draft and just deleted 5/6 of the existing positions on the ice. Knowing that we are STILL going to be in rebuild NEXT year, as of today, in the 1st round, there are 5 RIGHT D pencilled to go inthe 1st round.

We decided to use THIS year to AIM a specific position. It's just plain stupid.

Guhle, Hutson, Reinbacher, Barron, Harris, Xhekaj, Mailloux, Engstrom, Kovacevic, Trudeau, Norlinder, Struble, Nurmi

Crowded D pool, still missing a #1D

It’s not about need but about value

Center and Dmen (Even more RD, since they are more rare) are the most valuable postions and you will pay more to have that

Like for QB, Edge and LT in the football

Absolutely unbelievable.

We might have missed on Matvei Michkov because Reinbacher is right-handed.

BPA my ass.
Well, star RHD are a rare commodity. I understand that. Championship teams have been built with that too.

It saddens me that we did not get the potential offensive star. Really does.

I don’t think I’m in left field when I write that HuGo want to build a foundation based on the same principles the Booins have carried over the last decades. David seems to fit the mold.

What’s funny is 99% of people crying in here right now have never seen the guy play (or even Michkov). Let’s wait and see how thing turns out. Reinbacher seems to be one hell of a hockey player already and he’s staying in Europe next year so we are sure not to rush him. Let him develop.
