One very positive thing I’ll say about Reinbacher is that he’s very advanced. He’ll be a 19 year old rookie who’s played in a pro league and at the WCs against men and looked solid. Has a very mature game that should translate easily. Hopefully he comes over as I imagine he’ll be quick to arrive. He, Mailloux and Hutson could all be Habs by season end. The question then becomes, who of the D do we move out? Eddy, Savard and Matheson? We’re gonna have a lot of bodies on the back end.
Good D always have value at least, lots of trade chips.

Popcorn will never be a star D, he was far from being the best player available.
I don't see how you can say this, he's on paper a better prospect than Seider for instance. D is harder to project so I don't think you can say he's a safe safe pick but he's as good of a defensive prospect out of Europe as possible. His draft year numbers against adults were in Dahlin territory.

I still don't think this was the right pick and we possibly punted on a superstar offensive talent for stupid reasons, but the idea that he has a low upside is completely inaccurate. This was a much better pick than Slafkovsky for instance.

I'm negative on this team and we potentially made a historic mistake, but we definitely got the best defensive prospect we've had in a long long time.

David Reinbacher was my second choice after Matvei Michkov... the problem is... Michkov was still available at #5 :(

I'm OK with this pick, but wow... we could've had Michkov...geeezz

#3 Galchenyuk = Failed
#3 Kotkaniemi = failed
#1 Slavoski = Still up in the air, but I don't like it
#5 Reinbacher = Strange

I really hope the last 2 pan out because this team already completely wasted 2 top 3 picks.

He said it on his interview with TVA sports. Bouchard asked him what's his plan for next season
Yeah, I know he said he wants to finish his education and is likely to stay in Switzerland and probably with Kloten. As of now, nothing appears to be signed though. Agreed upon maybe.

He lacks the tools to ever be a big time producer like a Seider or Heiskanen whos names have been thrown around a bit.

His value comes with how high his floor is and how advanced he is, not because of his ceiling.

We will never suck enough to have another oppurtunity to draft a potential superstar in Michkov. The only reason we had such a high pick this year was due to injuries. I never seen a better freebie than Michkov falling right into our lap and, we pass on it... Reinbacher is a good player but you can draft that type of player in the teens ( see Guhle ). I just don’t know anymore…..

I think it was back in April I made a post where I looked back at 1st round D from Europe over the last 15 years or so. Production wise, (with my own shitty accounting for league strength) the only dmen who had better draft years than Reinbacher were Hedman and Dahlin. Full stop.

I hope i'm wrong, we will see, he looks fragile too, hope he won't be injury prone.

Eric Faille, who plays with him, had some good comments on RDS.ca. He couldn’t believe the comments he was reading and hearing from Habs fans.

He’s adamant that this kid is for real and will be as good as Josi was. « The kid was 18 and was our PP QB. At 18! He did everything while playing in a pro league. He a complete defenseman. He will make you eat your words. » He was especially talking to Martin Lemay, who had previously said that if Reinbacher becomes as good as Josi, he’ll eat the piece of paper he was writing on.
he was popular in the draft thread too before the season ending when it was close to only poster who watch a lot of games

Like I said earlier most poster who complain hard about that pick are poster I never saw on the draft thread during the year and I’m pretty sure most haven’t watch a single game or him
