Yes, because you are assuming Michkov can’t help go deep and are assuming Reinbacher will be able. Learning to win takes time but doesn faster if someone can teach you. So Michkov could very well do both. (Produce in the season and in the playoffs).

This doesn’t mean Reinbacher won’t be a nice piece of the team. You are putting superstar pressure on him when comparing him to Michkov.

The comparison will be made by fans. Reinbacher has nothing to feel pressure for besides being someone who will help the Canadiens win.

Maybe the experts know better. But I also fear they may be high on their own supply, so to speak. Trust their 'method' a little too much when the obvious truth is in front of their nose.

It's still hard to ignore that this organization under Molson, with a 3OA, 3OA, 1OA and 5OA picks, got Galchenyuk, Kotkaniemi, Slafkovsky and Reinbacher.

I still believe in Slaf and hopefully Reinbacher will be a good one, but for example the Blackhawks with a 1OA and 3OA completely jumpstarted their franchise with Kane and Toews in the 2000s.

Where are the results for us? If this new batch doesn't deliver, then what? I understand I'm mixing up different eras but it was all under Molson ultimately, and since we can suspect he had a hand in us not taking Michkov.
My biggest gripe with draft discussion is your point about the Blackhawks restarting their rebuild with Kane and Toews. That’s great, but we have to work within the parameters of the drafts we have picks in. So to complain that the Blackhawks got Kane 1st overall while we got Slafkovsky is pointless since they were different drafts.

This has crossed my mind as well. Also the fact that we had reports of him having bad interviews at the draft, similar to our favorite Minnesota high school player of the year.
And Fischer played in Austria!

I think we cracked the code

I wanted the sexy pick too, but we'll see, a top pairing RD is extremely valuable, let's just hope he pans out.

2 years of watching a miserable team play bad hockey but, it's ok I said to myself, we'll be picking high in the draft. What do we end up with? Slafkovsky and Reinbacher. You can't make this stuff up.

I hear you, it was an imperfect argument.

And yes, we had really bad luck in which draft we ended up getting high draft picks in... except this year. This year, we got extremely lucky that a phenom was available at 5th. And we were too much of a bunch of p***yes to cash it in, to quote Ben Affleck in Good Will Hunting.

Patrick Kane was not an obvious choice at 1st overall. He was small, etc. Turris, Van Riemsdyk, and whoever else, there were debates. The Hawks went for it. They took their luck. Just like they identified this year as an important one to tank for real, and did, and they got Bedard.

Michkov isn't the only one who would come in and have an impact. There are other players that can come in and help the team win.

If Michkov comes to the league and has 90-100 point seasons, but his team doesn't go far when it matters, but Reinbacher is having 30-40 point seasons but he helps the Canadiens go deep into the playoffs and be contenders, does it really matter if they missed out on Michkov?
I think the concern I have, two hours after the Habs made their draft pick and four years before we can begin to see whether they made the right choice...

If the Habs reach that contending stage and need another piece to get over the hump, if they need a solid #3 D, you can acquire guys like that and it isn't exorbitant (ex Petry for a 2nd and a 5th, Toews for two 2nds, Severson for 6.25 AAV + a mid pick). If the need is a 90-point scorer, the price is substantially higher.

The hope is Reinbacher turns into Hedman or Pietrangelo where his acquisition cost would rival the 90-point forward. But if he tops out at Petry, this will be a massive missed opportunity and will be this regime's Kostitsyn draft moment.

Tough day for the empire. For me it was more a piece for the 2nd pair. Not sure about his upside. It seems that our huys think differently. Just wish that we dont have a to wait another 40 years to have a shot at a potential 100 pts player.

Management still awful. He was a move down selection not a top 5 selection. I pray that we'll know what Briere offer to us one day.

You're not done watching a miserable team play bad hockey tho, so it isn't the final sum of what we end up with.

Complete bs. He doesn't have a contract. He's FA. Having said that, he already said he's gonna finish his education so he's likely to stay put for one more year.

Also, even if he had a contract he could sign with Montreal any time because of the transfer agreement. He wouldn't need a clause in his contract.

I imagine the clause he was referring to is the transfer agreement.

But he wouldn't talk about having a clause if he wasn't under contract next year. So I doubt he's an FA.

You can be big or you can play big. They play big, so does Xhekaj. We'll have a big and mean defence

It’s easier to play big when guys around you are smaller. It won’t be the case in the NHL.

Guhle got injured a lot trying to do that…

It’s called planning… and that’s what good managements do.
