I didn’t say the entire fanbase. I said the vast majority of HF Habs. Go back and read the threads.

I think we put too much stock into professional scouts, thats all, they are wrong so many times, every teams suffer through this. If I were an NHL team I would seriously compile message board user input and compare it to what my scouts say, as a validator, fans know a lot about what players bring.

The Swiss league doesn’t have as much talent as the SHL/Liiga/KHL, but the style played there is really close to the style in the NHL.

In the SHL, defensemen have more time to take the puck skate out of the zone and prepare an offensive rush. It’s more a positional type of game with a slower pace.

In the NL, the style of play is forecheck heavy. You don’t have a lot of time to make decisions on the ice. It was just impressive to see an 18 year old play so well under pressure like he did with so much composure.

His decision making is already way beyond his years. He’s a great skater, great athleticism, big body.

He can easily force entries because of skating and isn’t afraid go squeeze in tight spots to keep sustained pressure. Kid was legitimately impressive with his first pass and ability to retrieve to puck quickly.

See how Guhle is always in movement on the ice ? Reinbacher is always moving his legs, he never stops being pro-active on the ice.

He’s not Hutson with the puck and you won’t see that Markov magic playmaking, but when the opportunity presents itself he will complete that pass or do a bank pass on the board that will lead to the scoring chance.

His shooting arsenal is still good, he seems to find a way to hit the net a lot, just don’t expect the booming cannon.

As the year went on, he got more confidence and you would see him go end to end. For instance, I don’t believe Barron has a higher ceiling than a #4 and I believe Reinbacher’s floor is #3.

It doesn’t matter if lesser defensemen can do some of those things, what matters is that Reinbacher’s tools are higher end and he is able to do those plays at such a young age.

There’s definitely top pairing upside, and some people on this board believe he could hit 60+, I don’t think he will. He doesn’t need Josi’s numbers to be a high end defensemen.

It’s a lot like Guhle, they’ll hit 40pts + because of the sheer amount of time they spend on the ice. And you won’t have to worry about them flopping around because their ability to take the puck out quickly due to them being always in movement will be huge for the transition game of this team.

Again, I would have picked Michkov, but Reinbacher is a good prospect. It solidifies a side of the defense that was hanging on two poor decision makers in Mailloux and Barron.

He doesn’t need to play on the PP, even tho he can walk the line fine and be effective. We have defensemen for that. We need a guy who can play 25 min a night against anyone and his tools give him that chance.

We’ll see how he looks at camp, I’m sure this will give everyone a better idea where he stands. He does need to get stronger and fill that frame, he isn’t as physical or mean as Guhle.
I disagree with this. Stylewise, the SHL is far closer to the NHL than any other league in Europe while the NL is far away.

The NL is loaded with talent. Now that the KHL is no longer popular and the NL is allowing more imports, it's even more loaded than before. I think at least 9 out of 10 hockey players without an NHL contract would prefer the NL over any other league. Even most Swedes or Finns wanna play in Switzerland rather than at home. Most NL teams also have far more money to throw at talent than the rest of Europe. Furthermore, Swiss hockey and talent development is very focused on individual skating and skill. It is lacking structure, physicality and coaching so it might still be slightly easier to score in the NL than in the SHL but skillwise the NL is top of Europe. If it wasn't before it is now.

Michkov isn't the only one who would come in and have an impact. There are other players that can come in and help the team win.

If Michkov comes to the league and has 90-100 point seasons, but his team doesn't go far when it matters, but Reinbacher is having 30-40 point seasons but he helps the Canadiens go deep into the playoffs and be contenders, does it really matter if they missed out on Michkov?
Yes, because you are assuming Michkov can’t help go deep and are assuming Reinbacher will be able. Learning to win takes time but doesn faster if someone can teach you. So Michkov could very well do both. (Produce in the season and in the playoffs).

This doesn’t mean Reinbacher won’t be a nice piece of the team. You are putting superstar pressure on him when comparing him to Michkov.

If they are this high on him, that should be the route to take. Leaving him in Europe another year would say a lot
I don't think leaving him in Europe is a bad option, but hes already shown what he can do at that level. Time to take the next step, plus the Habs can have direct hands on development.

Engstrom, Barron, Harris, and Xhekaj are good prospects with top 4 potentials. I could see us trading a couple of them to get the equivalent of Dubois/Meier in a few years.

We got the best defender in this quality draft.
Let's see what the coaching staff can do with this young prospect.

I guess he had the best answer to that stupid sub question. Omg as soon as I heard that I was like wtf? I remember Kent saying they asked strange questions last year but give me a break already with that sh!t.
Maybe mich said " I get puck I shoot puck at sub" and Kent didn't like his answer faaaaaack

Michkov (imo) is probably a straight up head case. The amount of spin for this dude was enough to stay clear and far, which is why 2 other teams passed on him, and he landed at probably the only team that could draft him with goodwill via Ovi: Washington, in the top 10.

You think MTL wants to have no control for the next three years? Forget even the other issues, personal or otherwise. Kinda reminds me of the Cherepanov selection years ago by NYR... I think we win out with the best RHD prospect in the draft.
I think the fact that there's a f***ing war going on and the uncertainty behind it, coupled with his contract, were the main factors. The comments about him being a head case are exaggerated and just plain lazy. There hasn't been one reputable source who said that.

If you think about it, his name is really close to David Fischer.
This has crossed my mind as well. Also the fact that we had reports of him having bad interviews at the draft, similar to our favorite Minnesota high school player of the year.

Maybe the experts know better. But I also fear they may be high on their own supply, so to speak. Trust their 'method' a little too much when the obvious truth is in front of their nose.

It's still hard to ignore that this organization under Molson, with a 3OA, 3OA, 1OA and 5OA picks, got Galchenyuk, Kotkaniemi, Slafkovsky and Reinbacher.

I still believe in Slaf and hopefully Reinbacher will be a good one, but for example the Blackhawks with a 1OA and 3OA completely jumpstarted their franchise with Kane and Toews in the 2000s.

Where are the results for us? If this new batch doesn't deliver, then what? I understand I'm mixing up different eras but it was all under Molson ultimately, and since we can suspect he had a hand in us not taking Michkov.
Hockey gods work in mysterious ways…

Maybe we celebrated too hard when Philly selected York and we got Caufield

Now its the opposite, we pick the D while thry get the offensive phenom!!

I like Reinbacher, our D is set for a decade it would seem, but Michkov…man!!!

Gonna enjoy Reinbacher’s progress!!

Hope he turns into a Pietrangelo!!

You think they will bring him here?

Reinbacher said that it will be up to the Canadiens to decide if they want him to come over to NA or go back to Europe. He has a clause in his contract in Switzerland that allows him to come over as of next year.
Complete bs. He doesn't have a contract. He's FA. Having said that, he already said he's gonna finish his education so he's likely to stay put for one more year.

Also, even if he had a contract he could sign with Montreal any time because of the transfer agreement. He wouldn't need a clause in his contract.
