Guhle, Mailloux, Reinbacher. 3 big boys with size and skill. All 3 big minute munchers. Add Hutson and his skillset to them and you got yourself a future Top-4 who you can win with. And then you have the Sheriff on the third pair causing pain.

Guhle and Reinbacher are average nhl defenceman size.

Please people, stop with the narrative that they are big

Interesting to see that Reinbacher felt his meeting in Buffalo was good, because the media report post Combine was that his meeting didn't go well... Habs seeding disinformation?

It wasn't his interviews with the teams that were unimpressive. It was Anthony Martineau, who was speaking with all the prospects who said his interview with Reinbacher didn't give him a good impression. More in the sense that he was too timid.

The same way a lot of people didn't understand the Price pick in 2005 when Habs already had Vezina & Hart Trophy winning Theodore.

We shouldn't expect them to keep them all around. They will surely use some of them as assets in trades at some point down the road.
It’s very different.

Trading one of them will never bring you a generational talent.

With the kids getting better (and healthier) they won’t have access to talent like Michkov in futur drafts.

Price was identified as a potential franchise player. Is Reinbacher a potential franchise player?

I like that he makes plays at the blue line! Most underrated skill for a defender.

Do not collapse and give up territory on the back-check/rush. He does not do that and he takes the body a lot too.

If he can excel at that at the NHL level with his tools he should be a really good defensive player that creates a lot of turnovers that generate offensive opportunities.

Also has a big right handed shot, lots of upside there.

In what I saw of him at the Worlds it looked like he can raise his level of play when it matters. He was really pushing the play, especially active on the rush.

There is a lot to like.
He have every a top dmen need to be successful. Prefer him to both Nemec/Jiricek

Reinbacher said he’s continuing school and stuff so don’t think he comes over.

Also said if he wasn’t a hockey player he’d be businessman so he could make a lot of money… well congrats David, you just fleeced Kent Hughes.
he just said on TV that he has a year left there if he wants. Will try to do the nhl next year.

The fact that Reinbacher gave nothing to TVAS makes me like him even more, if anything lol.

Eric Faille a teammates of Reinbacher said a look of good things in an interview earlier. Sad in some way but when you just look at the player, He had a lot of say to say about him

Was running the PP with their team
Better season than Josi at the same age
Just kept improving since the beginning of the year
Physical
Reserved
Looked bigger than 6'2''
Available to play with the rocket next year
He was running the 2nd PP unit. He was the lone defender of the unit but it wasn't a very good group. The 1st unit was the loaded one who got far more ice time. Reinbacher had just 4 PP points. If he was running the 1st unit, he probably has at least 10 more points on the season.

His draft season was way better than Josi's. Better than any defender drafted out of Europe...ever. Only comparable is Rasmus Dahlin. This guy completely dominated the league and got heavy ice time. Scored 12 (!) primary assists as a defender. On a bad team at the highest level in Europe. Was one of just two plus players on his team despite him and his d partner getting the toughest assignments.

Nothing against the kid. He's a good prospect no doubt.

Guy Lapointe was a good player. But would you take him over Guy Lafleur?

This feels similar to me.

Exact ! Same comments where made when I wanted badly to draft him before the COVID playoff and when we where supposed to have the 9th pick
People underrate solid all around defenseman every year as though big guys that can skate, eat minutes, and play all situations grow on trees. They don't. I love flash and offense as much as the next guy but it's not the only piece of a winning team. He'll, we've got Cole frigging Caufield! You'd probably be happy if Michkov ended up as good as he is. Our offense isn't as dire as people make it out to be, this isn't the years of Pacioretty/Desharnais/Plekanec anymore.

Ok, give me more ammo here. Sell him to me. Because telling me that he can get the puck out of his zone and to the other zone quickly is not saying much. Harris can do that. And he's a 6th.

The Swiss league doesn’t have as much talent as the SHL/Liiga/KHL, but the style played there is really close to the style in the NHL.

In the SHL, defensemen have more time to take the puck skate out of the zone and prepare an offensive rush. It’s more a positional type of game with a slower pace.

In the NL, the style of play is forecheck heavy. You don’t have a lot of time to make decisions on the ice. It was just impressive to see an 18 year old play so well under pressure like he did with so much composure.

His decision making is already way beyond his years. He’s a great skater, great athleticism, big body.

He can easily force entries because of skating and isn’t afraid go squeeze in tight spots to keep sustained pressure. Kid was legitimately impressive with his first pass and ability to retrieve to puck quickly.

See how Guhle is always in movement on the ice ? Reinbacher is always moving his legs, he never stops being pro-active on the ice.

He’s not Hutson with the puck and you won’t see that Markov magic playmaking, but when the opportunity presents itself he will complete that pass or do a bank pass on the board that will lead to the scoring chance.

His shooting arsenal is still good, he seems to find a way to hit the net a lot, just don’t expect the booming cannon.

As the year went on, he got more confidence and you would see him go end to end. For instance, I don’t believe Barron has a higher ceiling than a #4 and I believe Reinbacher’s floor is #3.

It doesn’t matter if lesser defensemen can do some of those things, what matters is that Reinbacher’s tools are higher end and he is able to do those plays at such a young age.

There’s definitely top pairing upside, and some people on this board believe he could hit 60+, I don’t think he will. He doesn’t need Josi’s numbers to be a high end defensemen.

It’s a lot like Guhle, they’ll hit 40pts + because of the sheer amount of time they spend on the ice. And you won’t have to worry about them flopping around because their ability to take the puck out quickly due to them being always in movement will be huge for the transition game of this team.

Again, I would have picked Michkov, but Reinbacher is a good prospect. It solidifies a side of the defense that was hanging on two poor decision makers in Mailloux and Barron.

He doesn’t need to play on the PP, even tho he can walk the line fine and be effective. We have defensemen for that. We need a guy who can play 25 min a night against anyone and his tools give him that chance.

We’ll see how he looks at camp, I’m sure this will give everyone a better idea where he stands. He does need to get stronger and fill that frame, he isn’t as physical or mean as Guhle.

The jury is still out on Wright/Slafkovsky and neither have impressed.

But yeah the need for elite scoring is something really basic that has been missing for years and years.

Management have been saying they want to build on speed and offence… but they draft the big guy and go for defence.

Unless they want to tank more (which is not the impression I have of the plan and is also probably not possible since all the kids are getting better) the will probably look for a good goaltender next. Which brings us to winning games with defence instead of offence.
Presumably that means trading for a guy like Hart/Askarov or going for a UFA in a year or two or three, because goalies take forever, if they draft someone you won't see him winning games in Montreal for 4-5 years.

He's vanilla. Good speed and ok shot. Likely tops out as a middle 6er. Not worth the massive price we paid.

I'd be happy to be wrong and eat crow but I don't see it with this one.
Thanks. That's fair. I know nothing about the guy, except that half of the board here wanted him at the draft.

He said he wanted to finish school and work (?) before coming over, so Swiss league again next year.

Actually, he confirmed in another interview after that he is open to come play in North America next year. He will let the organization decide where they think it would be best for him. I think Laval could be a strong possibility. I liked what I saw in his interviews, you can tell he is a mature and genuine nice kid filled with positive energy. He will fit well with the rest of the young core.

Reinbacher wasn't who I thought the Habs would draft at #5, but I can see why he was picked. He has all the tools: good skating, poised with the puck, strong transition game with nice outlet passes, hard shot from the point, closes space well, good stick when defending, uses his body effectively, throws hits etc. He had a very impressive season as a 18 years old, playing top minutes and a solid two-way game, displaying all the above against men. He's well-rounded already and keeps progressing, I see top pair upside in him.

Reinbacher said that it will be up to the Canadiens to decide if they want him to come over to NA or go back to Europe. He has a clause in his contract in Switzerland that allows him to come over as of next year.
Any clips anywhere? Sound clips I mean?
