Thats fair. Maybe a PTSD effect, this team has that effect.

Maybe im just at a point where i know i cant change anything and just hope for the best.

With any luck, the team will be a trainwreck again
I'm at the point where I need to step back from being a Habs fan but can't because they're an awful addiction.

Eric Faille a teammates of Reinbacher said a look of good things in an interview earlier. Sad in some way but when you just look at the player, He had a lot of say to say about him

Was running the PP with their team
Better season than Josi at the same age
Just kept improving since the beginning of the year
Physical
Reserved
Looked bigger than 6'2''
Available to play with the rocket next year
Reinbacher said he’s continuing school and stuff so don’t think he comes over.

Also said if he wasn’t a hockey player he’d be businessman so he could make a lot of money… well congrats David, you just fleeced Kent Hughes.

I like the player, I'd rather him than Leonard or Benson as I think he has some real upside as an all zone defenseman, but the Habs organization still seems in denial that you need talent to win in this league.

I'm really not impressed with Hughes so far. We seem stuck in the same holding pattern where the organization thinks making the playoffs is good enough.

People in here keep talking about trusting the pros. Well if you have the HockeyProspect draft manual....there's 20 pros talking and NOBODY sees him good enough to be top 5. None of THOSE pros.

It's not about the fact that he's a bad player. He's not. He's a NHL'er. Big time. But not top 5 value.
why don’t you bring where he was ranked on Bob McKenzie list ?

The kid can do everything. 6'2.5, 190lbs. Strong skater. His best attribute is his defense. He's big, physical, and closes gaps quickly. He gives guys no time and space to enter the zone. Loves to step up and get in attackers faces. He kills the play, wins the puck back, and gets it out, whether with his strong outlet pass, or by skating it himself. He's still growing into his body and already a real good skater, when he gains more strength he'll be even better at carrying the puck.

His biggest 'weakness' is his offense, but it's barely even a weakness. He put up 0.5ppg in a top European league. The Swiss league is probably the most popular league right now for ex-nhlrs/expats, so it's not a weak league. That's the best production there as a draft eligible ever behind the one and only Auston Matthews. He had bettsr production than Roman Josi's draft year. He makes efficient passes and likes to engage offensively. As the year went on we saw him start to take more risks and challenge defenders 1 on 1 as he became more confident. And he's got a real strong shot that gets through to the net with consistency.

The kid has all the tools to be a top pair guy, and the character to boot. If he's in North America the hype train is way crazier. He was an unknown prior to this season and slowly rose up the rankings each quarter until, here we are, drafted at 5. He's the slam dunk best D in the draft and has been my favorite prospect this season since probably December. Defense wins championships and this guy will help us get there.

LOL People tripping. Those D are going to be worth a lot in the not too distant future. Let's pretend we won't be able to move any of them for a decent haul or even a blockbuster trade. It's awesome having so many members who know how to build out a team from basically scratch. :sarcasm:

The Canadiens' recent success in the playoffs (2020 bubble playoffs & 2021 Final run) were with big and mean D like Weber, Chiarot, Edmundson (2021) & Petry.

The Canadiens are building something like that, except the big punishing D they're assembling now have more skill than the previous quartet. And then you add smaller statured Hutson, who broke records in the NCAA in his freshman year.

2021 Matthew Knies/mailloux
2020 Dawson Mercer/guhle
2018 Brady Tkachuk/kotkaniemi
2017 Jason Robertson/poehling
2016 Adam Fox/sergachev
2015 Sebastian Aho/juulsen
2014 Brayden Point/scherbak
2013 Jake Guentzel/mccaron
2012 Filip Forsberg/galchenyuk
2011 Nikita Kucherov + Johnny Gaudreau/Beaulieu
2010 Mark Stone/tinnordi
2009 Ryan O'Reilly/LeBlanc
2008 Cam Atkinson/kristo
2006 Claude Giroux/fischer

The Canadiens are the worst drafting team in nhl history looking at who they could have had. But choosing this Austrian kid over a future hall of famer will be the worst decision in franchise history.

Unbelievable the organization is run by the biggest idiots for decades.
2003 Carter or Getzlaf instead of A.Kost in the first round
and Bergeron instead of a f***ing unknown in the second

Craig Button had Rein 20th.

Most lists I saw had him around 8th.

Habs haven't had a single legit elite forward in SO long. Not one Hab has scored 40 goals OR 85 points since the mid 90s. Michkov is so likely to become an elite forward, but they pass on him because they aren't willing to wait a few years for him to come over? I don't get it.

Hutson, Guhle, Mailloux, Barron, Harris, Xhekaj, and this is beside the old guard

I simply just don't understand that pick, for real

The same way a lot of people didn't understand the Price pick in 2005 when Habs already had Vezina & Hart Trophy winning Theodore.

We shouldn't expect them to keep them all around. They will surely use some of them as assets in trades at some point down the road.

Interesting to see that Reinbacher felt his meeting in Buffalo was good, because the media report post Combine was that his meeting didn't go well... Habs seeding disinformation?

Nah, the report was Martineau wasn't "impressed" by his one-on-one interview with Popcorn, it wasn't about the meeting the Habs had with him.

Very true. Im just letting it play out for a few years. If it doesnt work, i will be first to admit i want these guys fired. As much as i prefer others to Reinbacher, the Newhook trade that leaves me a bit more concerned in the direction then this move

Reinbacher at least fits the desire to get a top pairing D, Newhook im not sure what it accomplishes yet

Newhook was a waste of picks. Massive overpayment.

I like that he makes plays at the blue line! Most underrated skill for a defender.

Do not collapse and give up territory on the back-check/rush. He does not do that and he takes the body a lot too.

If he can excel at that at the NHL level with his tools he should be a really good defensive player that creates a lot of turnovers that generate offensive opportunities.

Also has a big right handed shot, lots of upside there.

In what I saw of him at the Worlds it looked like he can raise his level of play when it matters. He was really pushing the play, especially active on the rush.

There is a lot to like.
