Can someone explain the stakes of what is happening? People are cheering for something I can understand. Haven't been following closely. Thanks.

1) Reinbacher and Kloten finished in the relegation spot in the standings. The other team is Ajoie.
2) In the 2nd division, teams have to register to have the right to move up to the top division.
3) Only two teams did that (Visp and Olten). Both teams were in the semi-finals of the 2nd division playoffs.
4) They'd need to make the final. If they do, then Kloten and Ajoie have to play each other in a relegation series (Best-of-7).
5) However, if Visp and Olten lose in the semi-finals, then Kloten and Ajoie remain in the top division and wouldn't have to play each other.
5) Visp was eliminated. All that's left is Olten. Their series is tied 3-3 with GCK Lions. Game 7 is on Friday.

We're hoping Olten loses on Friday. Because that would mean Reinbacher's season is officially over in Europe and he would be available to come over to NA. But if Olten wins on Friday, then Reinbacher will have to stay and play in the relegation series against Ajoie, which would effectively delay Reinbacher's arrival.

Habs fandom is putty its weight against a Swiss second division team (Olten) because them making the finals would mean our prized first rounder D would be by extension delayed from joining our farm team to train and play a few meaningless games.

Laval isn't playing meaningless games, though. They are still battling for a playoff spot.

But truth is, even if they were meaningless games, they'd be meaningful to us as we'd get to watch him in the environment we want to watch him in.

Proof no other fanbase compares to ours. Holee cripes.

Hate to say it but for d+1 he's probably the worst pick in the top ten. Maybe Nate Danielson. Even willander at 11 is having a better year while being younger. Wood/honzek are probably the first guys objectively having worse seasons.

I still like Reinbacher's upside but it still sucks to see your highest drafted player in the organization not dominate.
Is willander in the NcAA? Not the pros unless I’m Mistaken. Added to the fact that DR is on a tire fire team with three coaches in the season. Context matters. Reinbacher will be a stud for us

At this moment, I really want one of Celebrini, Demidov, Lindstrom, Catton or Iginla.

But I will be very very happy if they select one of Eiserman, Helenius, Buium, Parekh, Dickinson, Levshunov or Yakemchuk.

So we are guaranted to have a chance to grab these players and I have big hope for all of them.

I'm confident with Habs scouts, I believe that they will select the best player for the future of this team.

So far they nailed it at 2022 and 2023 draft, I hope they nailed it at 2024 aswell!!
I admire your optimism about Habs scouting but not sure it’s warranted. They blew their second first round pick in 2022 and their first round pick in 2023, and Bobrov has a very mixed tracked record, going back to his time with NYR. Lapointe not great either but less of record to judge.

It's a bit premature to judge the Reinbacher pick. What if he turns into Pietrangelo and michkov turns into kaprizov. Sure the later is flashier but which player probably has a bigger impact in playoff scenarios. Also without him, the Hutson pick kinda sucks cause there is no insulation. Even if you get a Parekh, etc, none of them this year besides Dickerson are elite defensive players. Also three of their first four picks in 2022 were good picks. Besides Reinbacher, their next pick was Fowler and he looks like a great pick. Besides them, it sucked but you're talking about late picks who probably don't amount to anything anyways. They didn't have their late first or second Rd picks so it's harder to judge 2023

I get the skepticism about Bobrov’s picks with the Rags but holy cow Reinbacher is still a baby who was asked to carry a pile of dead men corpses. Longer development time for a D and worst squad in the league.

Patience, you’re jumping the gun

2022:
- Slaf
- Beck
- Hutson
- Engstrom

2023:
- Reinbacher
- Fowler
- Xhekaj
- Konyushkov
- Volohkin

Slaf is developing very well and hopefully Reinbacher does the same once he comes over.

Engstrom and Konyoshkov look great so far. Both top 4 potential. Then the absolute wild card in Hutson.

Beck looks like a sure fire NHLer. And Xhekaj I expect the same I think he's going to surprise us if he hasn't started to already.

Lastly we got two studs in net with fowler and Volohkin. Who knows if they pan out goalies are tough to project, but both look awesome.

Overall that's a pretty solid first two drafts under Hugo. Only pick I'm not at all happy with is the Mesar pick. Looks like a huge blunder

You want BPA. If Dickinson or Buium there at 8 you have to take them. Can trade one of our other D get instant top 6 forward. More sure of what you getting also. Drafting for need opens up Kotkaniemi type mistake. You are taking inferior player. Very seldom draft high in draft, never take inferior player. Skill you going to need.
They did exactly that last year - passing on the superior player (Michkov). Hughes was pretty clear the other day: they’re drafting a forward, even if the big 4 (Celebrini, Demidov, Lindstrom and Catton) are gone by their pick. You can buy your Eiserman jersey now if you want to.

Big game 7 tomorrow, if the Lions win, Reinbacher could be coming to North America this weekend :)

Would Laval bring in all of Reinbacher, Engstrom, Hutson, Tuch, and Mesar when their current teams' seasons end??

Would they be eligible for the playoffs?

Reinbacker and Engstrom most likely depending on how long they need to stay in Europe. Mesar might not become available because Kitchener's regular season ends on March 23rd and they already clinched a playoff spot, so if Rangers get swept in the first round, maybe he'll be available.

Hutson will be signed to his ELC and will play in Montreal to burn a year off his ELC. NCAA players of his caliber go straight to the NHL (like Caufield, Harris, and Farrell).

I think Tuch will come on an AHL ATO and an ELC signed starting next year (like Struble last year). But in Hutson's and Tuch's case, they will become available as soon as BU's season ends, which the earliest would be on the weekend of March 28-31.

So Mesar, Hutson & Tuch could become available with a week or so before the season ends in the best case scenario. But they might not be available at all. Reinbacher and Engstrom are closer to come over in the next week or so. But their arrivals could be delayed even more.

Omar they eligible for the playoffs?

Caufield played a game or two in the AHL and killed it. But maybe they leave Hutson down to help Laval with a playoff run, Carey Price style?

It's so funny that a few months ago Bobrov was getting slammed for the Slaf pick and now we are on to slamming the Reinbacher pick.
I'll predict there's a greater chance to be right there though....For Slaf, even if you didn't agree, you could still see what the elite qualities of his game could be. And I stress elite. Not good nor great.

For Reinbacher....I don't see elite. Especially not the way I see others chosen after him. Reinbacher IS a NHL player. Will be. I have no doubt. Just don't see him as a typical top 5 pick. Let say the way Dickinson for me is this year. Geez, I don't have Parekh (who still has a great elite quality), Levshunov, Yakemchuck and Silyaev as a top 5 pick this year....not sure how it translates into seeing Reinbacher a top 5 last year with the likes of Michkov, Leonard, Benson available. But just like this year, I might have seen Reinbacher go around where I see Yakem/Sil/Levshu go this year.
