Probably added weight as directed by mgt. It was brought-up that he struggled with it.

No. He said he needs to fill out and work on the defensive side of things even ahead of the draft. Those were always gonna be his priorities for last summer and this season.

Kloten has to have the worst roster combination ever: team full of smurfs that can't score

That is untrue. Peltonen and Ruotsalainen were huge losses but it's actually almost the same roster that did very well last season after the promotion. The team is fine, it's just poorly coached. Jeff Tomlinson, for health reasons, was forced to step down as a head coach is now in an advisory role. That's the problem Kloten has. If you look at Kloten's team, the only player currently playing up to his potential is Axel Simic. Pretty much everybody else and especially high profile imports Ang and Aaltonen, are significantly worse than last season. Kloten doesn't need different players (unlike most other Swiss teams they don't have any money anyway) they need a capable coach. Fleming was a mess and right now GM Larry Mitchell is running the team...but the honeymoon after the coaching change only lasted 5 games. Mitchell isn't the solution either. I don't know if you watched the Spengler Cup but Jonathan Ang was razor sharp there just like he was for Kloten last season. Well, he looks like ass pretty much every game for Kloten this season. It's like night and day.

It's about damn time we kill the "reach" narrative.

1. It was widely speculated by people around the draft and draft combine that if the Habs received calls for the 5th overall pick it would be to secure Reinbacher and not Michkov or anyone else.
2. We know Arizona was hot on Reinbacher and pivoted to Simashev when the Habs took Reinbacher.
3. Nashville was aggressive in trying to trade up with Montreal to take Reinbacher. When Reinbacher was off the board, Nashville stopped trying to trade up with any franchise.
4. Philly tried to swap Gauthier to Habs for 5 and take Reinbacher. The franchise who took Michkov at 7.
Should also put an end to the idea that we drafted for need instead of BPA.

Reinbacher's comparable even now is Ryan Mcdonagh. 30-40 pt defense, not a PP QB, but a steady 25-30 minute guy when it counts.

I am not trading another one of those for a winger. Been there done that. Give him 2 seasons and you won't regret drafting him.

Mcdonagh was drafted 12th. In his prime only person in his draft year I would have considered trading him 1-1 is Kane.

Struble and him would make a great eventual shutdown pair for the playoffs. I really like Reinbachers IQ.

I'm not sure what to make of him just yet, certainly not sold on the IQ yet and for now it's hard to picture him in a shutdown role.

How did they do very well last season when if they had 1 less loss they would have finished 11th OA. Their -33 goal diff only 2 teams in the league were worse, and their 173 ga, only 1 team in the league let in more goals.

circle March 2nd on your calendar. Kloten season is done and Rein will be Bach in Laval.

that's not likely true unless they move up from their current spot at 13th OA as they would have to play in the regulation round from what i've read (I haven't had to follow the NL or NLA as it used to be called). There's only 16 games left so that won't be easy with how it's been going for them.

Also their last game is March 4th if they don't end up 13th OA or 14th.

11th still would have been a very good result. They're currently 8 points behind 11th place and trending in the wrong direction.

11th out of 14 I guess doesn't sound very good to me but of course it's much better then 13th place.

Marino also said Cooley will be a better player than Slaf, that was just before Slaf starts to get going. I like the guy, very entertaining, but when it comes to prospects...
Funny thing

Cooley 3G 19P -12
Slafkovsky 4G 14P -7

It's funny cause at the beginning of the season people were acting like Cooley had the best season in the history of mankind for a 19 years old while Slafkovsky was a bust and yup the difference is 5 points .... could be erased in a few good games ... or not ...

Tony marinaro think that Reinbacher is the 3rd best defenceman on that draft behind Wallinder and ASP.....
i'm not a bug Reinbacher fan yet, but Marino also demanded we trade Pacioretty for Drouin, and to sell the farm to trade for him, because he was a legend in the making. He's a douche-canoe x 10, knows zero about prospects.

Kloten only got promoted ahead of last season. Also, in European hockey there's no salary cap. In Switzerland, for most teams, money doesn't matter. They're either generating cash like crazy (eg Bern) or have incredibly wealthy sponsors and ownership. Kloten has none of that, was pretty much bankrupt just a few years ago. They were excellent last season and if you look at individual player performance you'll see that everybody besides Simic regressed. That is 100% on coaching. The new imports aren't nearly as good as Ruotsalainen and that surely is a factor. Losing Peltonen hurts as well but Henauer is actually a worthy replacement. Those two players alone don't explain the difference in play between those two seasons.

No? I'm just relaying what has been reported. IE, That after the draft, management asked that he put on some mass and that he did indeed bulk-up and hadn't adjusted to carrying the added weight.

Both can be right. IE, a reporter asking him pre-draft what he needs to improve on and him answering he'd like to add more size and work on his defense, and mgt emphasizing to add more weight over the summer post-draft.

Back then the gap in production was larger. Cooley had 13 pts in 21 games in the first quarter of the season (50 pts pace, 9 on 13 pts were on the PP1 thought), then 6 in 18 (27 pts pace) in the second quarter. He was demoted to the bottom 6, the 2nd pp unit and moved to the wing.

Slaf on the other hand had 6 pts in 21 games and then 8pts in 18 after being promoted, but he impact the game way more than his production shows.

Cooley is regressing 5 vs 5, whereas Slaf is progression 5 vs 5 and dominating some games now 5 vs 5.

Both still young but I'd much rather have Slaf's development curve as of today that Cooley's.

When is going to be a top pair RD, two-way, with great transition, great skating, great defensive IQ and leadership. Everyone will understand why Habs select him #5 and turn down offer's for the 5th selection!
