I'm not worried about Reinbacher at all. Type of player who should get better throughout his 20s and maybe even early-30s.

Anything he does before age 23 is irrelevant.
Exactly. No need to panic about anything, plus whenever he does come over he will be insulated by our other Dmen

Says every kid still living with their parents… ;)

I have a hard time judging this guy, every highlight vid I watch he seems so vanilla. Maybe it’s a good sign he can play in an adult league and not stick out.

Vanilla is kind of what the Habs need with Hutson and Mailloux in the pipeline.

What he does might not be sexy, but it’s very effective. The quickness of his decision making I find to be elite for his age in a men’s league. He’s a breakout machine. Look at the effect Struble has had just because the puck is on and off his stick in the blink of an eye.

Jayden Strubke D+1+2+3+4 years were tracking horribly, and now he’s everyone’s flavor of the week.

Who cares!
Exactly.........................geez giving these kids a hard time, when they are 18-19 years old for criiss sakes.....
Former NHL players who play in that league over there, have already said, Reinbacher is the real deal.
These kids, especially Dmen need time to develop, Struble case in point.

We are in a rebuild...........it takes time, and so does success from drafting, takes time.

Seriously, we get so caught up in what guys do post draft.

A lot of players have a ton of success post draft and then never amount to anything in the NHL, and others it's the opposite. Sometimes we have to stop seeking indicators to quell our insecurity and just let it play out.

It's about damn time we kill the "reach" narrative.

1. It was widely speculated by people around the draft and draft combine that if the Habs received calls for the 5th overall pick it would be to secure Reinbacher and not Michkov or anyone else.
2. We know Arizona was hot on Reinbacher and pivoted to Simashev when the Habs took Reinbacher.
3. Nashville was aggressive in trying to trade up with Montreal to take Reinbacher. When Reinbacher was off the board, Nashville stopped trying to trade up with any franchise.
4. Philly tried to swap Gauthier to Habs for 5 and take Reinbacher. The franchise who took Michkov at 7.

There are standard complaints about every Habs' draft pick.

For some odd reason Habs fans seem to try and defend to the death late 1st round picks, finding any excuse to say their development is going really well, but they are quick to find reasons to dislike Top-10 selections. McDavid and Makar are not typical selections, it’s unfair to expect immediate results with everyone.

Makar played two seasons in the NCAA after being drafted, I'm not sure I would call that "immediate results".

Hutson did better in his first NCAA season than Makar did in his 2nd NCAA season, but fans in here were dismissing Hutson breaking NCAA records last Spring.

You’re really nitpicking the point I’m making. Replace Makar with Heiskanen then.

Pietrangelo isn’t sexy at all to watch but he was the #1 Dmen of 2 of the last teams to win the cup

When we drafted him Hughes said he’d become a number 2-3 dman and not a general on 1st PP unit type of player.

Thats a good player overll. But some here thinks hell become the next hedman,
Makar and shit. Stop it.

Jeff Petry type of dman he is.

I was just pointing out that Makar would be shat on in his D+1 had he been drafted by the Habs.

Which comes back to "let them develop". The amount of young players who perform immediately was always small and it's even getting smaller going by an article in LaPresse today (they use u23 players). The league just changed.

In french: Les trentenaires s’amusent !

Guhle and Reinbacher both meet this definition and it reminds me a lot of drafting offensive lineman in football.

They aren't very flashy and won't sell a ton of jerseys like super skilled guys too, but they do a ton of dirty work and little things that help other players and help your team win games - similar to an O-lineman helping their QB, RB etc. These D will potentially help guys like Hutson/Mailloux/Barron play more offensive and will help our transition game to allow guys like Caufield/Suzuki/Slaf/Dach to play more in the offensive zone.

We had a short period where we were blessed with Markov/Subban/Weber. However there were years before that where Patrice Brisebois was our #1 D, years after that where we had David Shlemko, Karl Alzner and Victor Mete on our top pair and now we have David Savard playing like 25 minutes a night... there is a massive need for guys on our back-end to eat minutes.

There were periods where there were no good D, and there was a period where Bergevin rotated D-men who could just handle bottom pairing roles through the second pairing with the hope that one or more of them would be able to handle the role. None of them could and he finally gave up on that strategy and actually acquired some serviceable guys...
