I honestly see him as a safe pick despite being a bit of a reach. It is a given that there will be some forwards drafted after him that are better than him, but nobody fit the profile of a sure thing that would fit in well with our core. None of the forwards with size had legit top-6 potential.

When we picked Slaf, it was a guarantee that even if he wasn't going to be the best player in the draft, he was definitely going to be an NHL given his size and athleticism. As a team that needs help everywhere and at RHD desperately, I think they just took the guaranteed top-4 RHD over trying to figure out which small forward would translate well.

Not sure I understand the "lesser league" because the swiss league is for sure a step above the czech and especially the slovak league
Lesser league = less common as a feeder league to the NHL, harder to get a read for his relative strength and his trajectory as a prospect. That's my understanding of it, anyway.

Reinbacher was literally off-the-charts for his age in the Swiss league last year and there were not many precedents other than Roman Josi iirc.

Yup. You can disagree with the Habs organization's strategic priorities here -- valuing the safe top4 RHD over swinging for the long-coveted star forward -- but I don't think it's a reach or a bad pick. Reinbacher's struggles in his D+1 shouldn't be held against the pick made at that time.

Tim Bozon just scored an empty netter to ice the game against Reinbacher's team in the NHL. Completely forgot about that guy but shoutout to him for making a nice pro career after almost dying
It’s time to bring Reinbacher to the AHL. Kloten is a dumpster fire this year

Kent has gotta move before we bring those Euros over. The logjam is real. It’s gonna get even more critical if the Rocket are in a playoff spot by the time Engstrom, Rein, etc. come over. The locker ain’t gonna be too happy to have turned this season around only to get bumped off their spot by rookies when games matter…

The players who won't be happy are the players we don't care about (Beaudin, Bisson, Keeper, Galipeau)

Beaudin is already unhappy and has made it known to his agent, and I doubt anybody really cares

I honestly see him as a safe pick despite being a bit of a reach.

Not a reach by any means.

In more than 95% of all draft, a defenseman is at least picked top 5. (Most of the time its higher and sometimes its 2 dman or more in the top 5.)

Its not a reach by any mean that the best dman of 2023 has been picked 5. Heck, i would even argue he could have been picked 4 above Smith and it still would not have been a reach.

Also disagree with the safe pick notion. We went for the massive upside ainec. Top pair RD are the most coveted assets after 1C.

As long as he gets icetime and opportunity, I don’t think it matters too much. Especially since the other option is Laval which are just as much of a dumpster fire.
You haven't followed Laval over The past 10 games have you? They are 8-2 and have won 4 straight. When the season started the coach said they would struggle early with the influx of so many 1st year players. They have turned the corner.

I’m fully aware that they have a streak going on. It doesn’t stop them from being an average team in which Reinbacher would have to compete for icetime with other young defenders. I don’t see Laval as a better opportunity than Kloten for him (this season)

Pretty uneventful game but made some nice defensive plays. Doesn't look as sluggish to me anyways. Kept it simple. Mistake free. Good positioning.

His passes are also accurate and his shot is heavy.

I'd like to see him control the puck more and also it does seem to me he struggles with clearing the front of the net.

He's a 19 year old in a men's league....That will happen. He's playing against men so for sure he will have a hard time against the bigger and stronger players, but that man strength should come in the next few years.

Yeah I'm not worried one bit. Reinbacher was my guy and I'm super confident with him.

It sucks that he's on one of the worst teams in the league, so offensive production doesn't come easy since they suck. However, the silver lining in him playing for Kloten is that his season will end early March, which would allow him to come over quicker. And with the AHL season ending early April, then that could still give him almost a month for us to watch him in Laval if they don't qualify for the playoffs.

Same for Engstrom, as Rogle currently sit outside a playoff spot. And SHL regular season also ends early March. However, they are still just a few points out of a spot. So they could end up making the playoffs. But if they don't, I expect Montreal will sign Engstrom right away and bring him over to finish the year in Laval. Maybe an AHL PTO to end the year and an ELC that starts next year (similar to Struble last year).

Doesn’t Kloten have to play relegation games if they end up being bottom 3?

Engstrom with a goal so far. Rogle is tied 1-1 in the 2nd.

You're right. But it would be curious if he stays to play those seeing as he won't be there next year whether they stay or get relegated.

Hope he comes over right away. Seeing as he mostly wanted to go back to finish school.

they were shit last year too just that this year the goaltending/defense is worse then last year (worst in the entire league in ga) The main reason you want to see a prospect go back is to work on something, and you just need TOI to do that so while you would want to see his team in the playoffs cause that just means more games which means more TOI.

I really think things could have gone very differently if they had just sent KK back to Liiga to actually play center since he didn't play that position much in his draft year. That added year of just working on getting stronger, filling out his frame, working his skating, balance.

I'm concerned that Reinbacher can't score on a goalie but he did have only 3 goals last year so maybe he's just not much of a shooter as he doesn't often shoot much this year (though he had 4 shots in my last vid which is the first time I believe i've seen him get that many shots this season)

I assume he will be in Laval in April so we'll see what happens.

He has a good shot but it's gotta get more accurate and be used more.
