I look at Dallas acquiring Granlund, and he's not even playing center for the Stars, he's on the wing with Duchene. Wyatt Johnston has bounced around he's the #3 C currently. Jamie Benn takes draws too but he's a little too slow for center.

I think an injury to a middle 6 center on the Jets would definitely give the Stars the advantage in that position. Kupari hasn't been that impressive, just holds the fort. I think he's ideally a more limited minute player like Sam Steel, the Stars #4 C.

If the Jets win a round in the playoffs good chance the next round goes through Dallas, and I think that's where Chevy is looking.
If Dallas doesn't get Heiskanen back they might not make it out of the first round, apart from Harley and Lindell they aren't very good back there and their goaltending isn't good enough to cover up for them

That seems to apparently be the waiting game.

I heard the clip today where Seravalli reiterated once again what he said last week that they are waiting it out for a 1st on Laughton.

He said he believes the Jets offered up to a 2nd but were declined.

Frank also stated that the Flyers are looking for a 1st "+" in a deal for Risto.
Leave Briere holding the bag when the deadline passes if that’s the case!

Hot take: if the Laughton and Ristolainen were actually worth 1st rounders, the Flyers would be good.

Have you seen thier goalies? They have a combined 877 SV%. Playing on a defense first Torts system.... Put league average goaltending on that team and they are probably in a wildcard spot.

I think the big concern for me would be the Stars adding Jones, getting Heiskanen and Seguin back for the playoffs by round 2. Jim Nill had done a good job over there of making the Stars the team to beat out of the Central.

I'd say they are still better than Colorado and Minnesota. With the team they have.

Laughton or Frederic or preferably Rakell...guys who can play up and down the lineup, fill holes. But not if the cost is too high.

On defense I don't know if there's a needle-mover out there.
I’m down with a Barlow package for Rakell!!!!

And a Heinola package for Ferraro.

I have no idea what's going on in Colorado and have always though that the Wild were playing above their heads. Get there players back and trade for Jones and they are going to be tough to beat.

I don't think San Jose should trade Ferraro. I'd build around a guy like that. He wears a letter already. I'd love to get him, but I think that's a big deal.

I'd be surprised if Rakell waived his NTC to come here. Really surprised because there's no in to say hey Winnipeg isn't that bad.

I'd throw Heinola into a Laughton deal though, because maybe he and Risto could work together. Philly abandoning Risto would be funny, because they'd be relying so heavily on Drysdale, who hasn't taken the next step. I also find it funny that they are trying to get all these 1sts, with 3 already, in what is considered a weak draft.

If Chevy can hold on to his 1st I'll give him credit. Because at least he goes into the draft with capital, he can trade down for more picks, but without a 1st or 2nd he's going into the draft shorthanded.

Sennecke is with the Ducks I believe I wonder if there is a trade there with Barlow.

There is no way I’d pay a 1st for either Laughton or Risto…I personally wouldn’t pay anything for Risto..zero interest there.
Laughton, isn’t a need unless Chevy is planning on keeping Names at 2C.
Personally, I’d rather hold our anssets over acquiring those 2.
Rakell could be an interesting add.
Is SEA still selling…Bjorkstrand…Any chance Eberle would waive.

Giving up more draft capital for guys like laughton etc doesn't make sense.. the guy has experience and is versatile enough to plug in almost anywhere in your line up but he's not a huge upgrade over iaffalo or Nemo.. for 3rd or 4th sure.. bottom line is they do need another reliable piece or 2 on both offense and defense as insurance in case there's a injury to key player.. like I've said winnipeg is playing under a very underrated coach who may be the best coach in hockey.. playoffs will be a chess match and war of attrition.. jets can't get beat up and out muscled they need to add another reliable weapon and size on defense.. to counter teams strength or speed.. go all in trade your horrible 1st round pick....

Someone mentioned dallas getting Seguin back during playoffs that's virtually impossible under new cap rules.. they would be way over cap ceiling if he did miraculously come back in the post season

I think nelson or boeser would be good fits in terms of giving your power player another lethal weapon at its disposal . I think special teams play huge role in playoffs and hockey in general.. picking up a top 6 guy even laughton at a cheap price bolsters your pp and pk a bit... someone on defense who can help on the pk be valuable asset aswell

well that person would be wrong because the cap doesn't apply during the playoffs and that's how teams have been abusing ltir
Jesus that loop hole still exists.. wonder if oilers will abuse it with Ecancer Kane aswell

Ha hurricanes must be having buyers remorse.. perfect example of if it ain't broke don't fix it... necas was good fit in carolina foolish letting him go for a guy who might just be a rental... good thing your gm isn't a fool.. both pending ufas but could of retained necas prolly and cheaper price.. that team slumping hard and not looking very good

Reports are Habs want 2nd pick for Evans, if the trade with Flyers doesn't work out Evans might be a ok cheap replacement
No thanks to Evans.
Still think we should pay what would be required for ROR. 2 years after this one of ROR at 4.5m per would be a really good get at 2C and is exactly what we need.

Yeah..Canes definitely should have kept Necas…as you said, likely cheaper to extend him and he wanted to be there, unlike Rantanen who wanted to stay in COL.
That was just a bad move by CAR all around. Be very interesting to see where they go from here…as it seems less and less likely they re-sign him, do they move Rantanen to try and recoup losses or keep him as an own rental and take the heat for letting him walk for free after trading to get him.

I think they moved Necas because they knew he wouldn't extend. There was some talk last summer of that being the case

No idea why they moved him for Rantanen tho

Not saying Evan’s over ROR, I’m saying if other options fall through he wouldn’t be horrible
