People are extra mad because they didn’t get to be right on the internet. The habs selecting Michkov would validate their hockey knowledge. Not selecting Michkov is an affront to the self perceived expertise of fans.

Which people?

And mailloux as well

Mailloux was for other reasons.

But I do recall people weren't happy with Guhle in 2020 at 16th when Dawson Mercer and Hendrix Lapierre were on the board. The reaction wasn't as vile and disgusting as it was for Reinbacher. But fans weren't happy they went for a D, especially one who wasn't tearing it up offensively.

But before the draft posters said this management with all the contacts in RU was the most well-aknowledge team to know about Michkov and they were confident with they would select him ... or not. Most posters wrote if they pass on him, that's because they know something we don't. That seems reasonable until now, heh?

Now that choice wasn't Michkov, they turned that into this management are morons, they don't know anything, they don't have the balls, they passed on a generational talent that will haunt them, etc.
They try to find the guilty one to be fired, it can be Hughes, Gorton, Bobrov, Lapointe, maybe Youppi, lol.

Maybe Michkov isn't as good as we were told.

Still wouldn’t have been my selection at 5, but given all the backlash the kid received I’m heavily rooting for him.

Think a big part of what made him the pick is how quickly he can join the core. There was a lot of talk about adding guys who fit the timeline, and Reinbacher was certainly one of the most advanced guys in the draft. Really do hope this means we see him sooner than later, hopefully AHL this year, and then he, Mailloux and Hutson can join big squad the year after.

People hated the Guhle pick. They hated the Juulsen pick too. And Fischer. And Tinordi. And McDonagh. Nobody likes drafting a dman first round.
As far as i know.

Every trade and every pick is always hated. I rarely seen a moves that was appreciated. Toffoli signing as far as i remember.

Maybe Michkov isn't as good as we were told.
Can't believe we skipped a generational talent

I would have preferred to move down a few spots and still pick him or Leonard, but either way passing on Michkov would have been criticized by fans. I don’t mind the pick, our defence should be locked in for the next bunch of years.

If the rumoured Askarov trade is accurate, I would have strongly considered that as well

True but then again, this is true of all prospects, including Reinbacher.
True but why this anger and the treats? Why collectivly we accept that any poster here know more about prospects and hockey that the pros who runs the team. This is a new management and the fired some incompetents from the past regime. Why a board like here put on pedestrial posters who are obviously bipolars dudes and specialised bashers, provocative and harassment experts just because mods agree with 60% of their posts?

I went to other boards and the mood is much more constructive and chill. Here we can feel the toxic and with time the mods had lower the rules to run this board.

It's like humans with the smell sense. You don't have dogs or cats and when you go in an house that these pets piss on the floor, you smell it and it's disgusting. But the persons who live there doesn't smell it. I think the analogy is pertinent. Anal-logy, a pun.

It might just be me, but since we drafted this guy, I've gotten more excited about Hutson because of the potential pairing these 2 could make. Speaking purely on potential, as those are prospects after all, they would probably complement each others so well, and allow Hutson to express himself more freely.

In no way am I trying to get ahead of myself, but before I had a bit of a harder time pinning Hutson in the team with a RD who would allow for such a scenario.

It also helps set everybody in the right chairs, with Guhle and Mailloux creating, once again based purely on potential, a second strong pairing.

This pick was the piece that came in this prospect defense and helped push every other pieces in their rightful slot, and I'm excited to see this unfold!

Time will tell. In the end Michkov dropped a lot for a "generational player" and clearly teams had no hesitations drafting Russians so it wasn't because of that. Grier even said there were some concerns with him which is why they passed. And now we're hearing some teams had Reinbacher ranked as high as 3rd. In the end we have zero clue into what NHL teams actually think when it comes to prospect rankings.

Because the pros have showed us that they fail time after time again.

It's not that we think the fans know more, but we're not gonna blindly believe the pros are all that until they prove their worth.

Which poster is put on a pedestal? Certainly not me with the amount of warnings I got.

There are a lot more shady things surrounding Michkov than Reinbacher. Like I said yesterday, it's all well and good to say a player has amazing offensive skills, but so was Drouin at the time of the draft.

Drouin could have had a great career too. Hindsight is 20/20.

Did you post in the ''Who would you have drafted?'' thread?

There were red flags about him way before he was traded with us. Remember that "no way I'm going AHL route" at about 20? Yzerman waas very lucky he was able to move him to our GM for such a great return.

As regards to how the Habs handled it, it doesn’t appear that they did an extended meeting with the kid. And yet they are a sophisticated, resourceful organization. Let the Habs confirm or deny. I only stuck to what was confirmed.
Habs brass met w Michkov & as reported Molson met with him separately morning of the draft

From what I saw of Michkov videos, I wasn't enough impressed. He didn't qualified my eyes test. And he said in interview he don't care a little about defensive play. It's a offensive talent only take it or leave it.
People are assuming this means Reinbacher cany play the PP period.

Weber couldn't run a PP and he was on the first unit for years.
Weber had only his shot. Markov had better lateral moves (much much better) and decisions making. But Weber was the shot. He had a real canon shot very efficient and relativly quick release. Markov by moving his position closer to the net had the same scoring results. But Markov from the most far point in PP was nowhere a strong shot as Weber. Weber was world class power shot in the league.

No need to hit on a man when he's down.

Drouin could have had a better career with more luck.

No one ever complained internally about Drouin's attitude.

WTF are you talking about, I'm not hitting a man when he is down. I'm stating facts about something that happened and making a paralell with another young offensive star that was apprently "we should never have let slip!"

Reminds me a lot of Weber vs PK, if you want another example. If you read Gervais's book, you will learn several things about PK that made that trade necessary. Yet fans outside who have no idea what was really happenning kept complaining "he was electric, whyyyyyyy?", going as far to even publish a one-page complaint in the JdM.....

Everyone see the Radio Canada bit on Youtube? Apparently Reinbacher's agent hired this Defenseman whisperer who worked with Chabot, et al. He was hired 2 years ago and grooms Top D prospects. He said (The Whisperer dude) that Reinbacher is very special, ultra talented and does things you can't teach. Was glowing reviews
